Mitch Mitchell was one of the best drummers of Rock, and most unrecognized. He was a multi-rhythmic space-jazz drummer who flew with Jimi. He didn't just "keep time". I saw the Experience many times, and Jimi once with Band of Gypsies. Always transcendant.

+hohaia rangi Yeah, I agree with you about Mitch's drumming. My favorite is his drum solo in"1983 a merman i should turn to be". A guy I work with saw Mitch play on the Experience Hendrix tour literally days before he died. He said he looked old and tired, and that the band had a back up drummer to help him keep time... sad man, real sad. RIP Mitch, Noel, Buddy, and Jimi.

Joseph Me too man. But sometimes I think it's possible to know jimi more than a lot of the people I have met because of what he communicated through his music. There are so many sides to him, the other evening I was walking in the hills in a remote part of Scotland listening to 1983, I had been alone for hours and the sun was going down behind a mountainous island in the distance, I suddenly felt like I was seeing this planet for the 1st time, a sad but beautifully desolate place inhabited by people almost phantom like in their shallowness of perception. In this moment jimi seemed more real to me than pretty much anyone. I miss him

This is a celebration of the Experience formed in 1966, not disregarding his band however focus on the point - The Experience were the original. It was the period in which Jimi played and recorded a style of music which was not the same as what he came out with post-Experience/mid 1969 with Buddy Miles, Billy Cox etc. A true Hendrix fan tells the difference in the style of music he performed with The Experience and what he did in the last 2 years or so of his life, both very great though.

Michael Jeffries was responsible for the virtually worthless contracts that Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding signed in 1966, cutting them out of record royalties. Then Jeffries paid them a meager salary, misappropriating most of their concert wages through offshore holding companies (Yameta Trust Company) in the Bahamas, where only Jeffries had access to numbered bank accounts. Jeffries learned the ropes good in stealing royalties and concert cash when he managed The Animals. He also deposited their earnings in Bahamian bank accounts that most of the band never saw.

his father doesn't really have to say anything; his tears speak volumes. I would imagine this is his proudest moment as a father, as bittersweet as it is. God bless Noel, Mitch, Al, and James Marshall Hendrix.

So humble yet glowing with pride; imagine; two UK 60's hipsters plucked by Jimi to be his band... wow... and they did us proud with their Jazz sensibility, open kit drum sound, and hip licks (Mitch) and intuitive feeling for the blues, approach notes, and walking prowess (Noel) ... honouring these guys is, to me, quite just. Jimi would have thought that too, I'm thinking. peace and thanks for insightful post !

Jesus you can tell how fucking hilarious it would have been to spend time with those three fuckers... Damnit I'm not a generic "I was born in the wrong era" kid, but I'd love to have met them like they were in the 60s...

fuck that i was definitely born in the wrong era lol... I was born in 87' the 90s were cool the early 2000s were cool but damn I wanna be apart of the 60s... seeing all my fav bands and musicians and especially would like to go back in time and grab a few fender strats for really cheap I'm lefty so I'd most likely be bringing back nothing but right handed guitars but shit just to own some vintage strats would be amazing. wouldn't sell any of them. maybe get a HENDRIX strat to and play it forever. guess I'll grab his wah, fuzz, Univibe and octavia pedals too and hell a marshall full stack lmao IMA need a few trips back and fourth. but no seriously just to experience that era would be amazing. a lot of crazy shit happening in that time period and music kept most people sane and happy.

These soft spoken men - whom you might simply pass on a street - created a genre of music. Folks continue to compare each successive era’s “great guitarist du jour” as the new Jimi Hendrix. That’s the ultimate tribute. All three guys redefined the visual and performance standard of rock and roll.

Jimi Hendrix died the year before I was born, yet his music defined the way I felt, believed and played guitar for the rest of my life and promoted the conscience and critical thinking to resist the status quos belief that conformity provides a meaningful existence. Always in my soul 😎👍
