This is a little gem. You can get an idea of what he was aiming for. He was more of Classical style composer but was steered/forced to be (as he said" Elvis rock n roll"). He was thinking in 3 D , his mind was in a giant cinema making his movie with its soundtrack. A very sincere and hyper-intelligent human. A strung out hippie could'nt have produced even 1 single with the same scope . Thanks for letting us in to the way he felt and percieved this World.

You’re really doing Eddie Kramer a disservice. He was very much similar to what George Martin was for the Beatles, when they were recording. Except, Kramer was excited by Jimi’s ideas, and he knew whether it was possible with existing tech, or if they’d have to figure out a way to do it. Jimi was definitely not happy with his management selling him as just a pop act, snd even with no ability to write the notation of music, he was very good at explaining what he was hearing in his mind, and he and Kramer would sit at the board and figure it out. Jimi doesn’t get much, if any credit for the Jazz/Rock Fusion movement, that many great guitarists at least dipped a toe into, in the 70’s. Jimi was already doing these things. Checkout the Nine to the Universe release. He and Miles had planned on working together, but John McLaughlin got that gig, on Bitches Brew. Could you imagine Jimi and Miles doing a studio album, or a live tour together?

Thought I'd heard them all. This is amazing. This must have been what it was like just when he was chatting with his friends.

So interesting to hear him talk about his true vision versus what the record companies wanted - straight cut Elvis rock n roll. He was clearly influenced by the extended compositions of Pink Floyd in their early days when he’d met them in London, and his visions about longer symphonies become more realised on Electric Ladyland. He was a prog rock pioneer, so sad he never got to see the scene evolving.

“From Buffalo…?” I knew this interview would rank. Interviewer did not ask anything about Jimi’s music because he didn’t know about it, instead asking generic questions to get by. Missed opportunity!

Music isn't a great subject for discussion with Jimi. He lets the music do the talking.

Not surprised this dude was unprepared for the interview considering he's the guy who asked Syd Barrett about being trapped in systems and how to assimilate them, haha.

Not rare at all!.....been around for many years...interesting to hear the interviewer, Meatball Fulton, praise himself for doing such a great job!..Truth is, Hendrix was a much easier interviewee, during the first year or so of his meteoric rise to fame...later on, not so much.

He was miserable in a lot of 69’ and 70’, because his management was touring him to death, making him fear stopping, because he was in debt, from building the studio. Mike Jeffrey’s squeezing every penny he could, mixed with Jimi never taking a real break, because he was out all night jamming, and/or bringing folks back to the studio to jam. Most of it was useless, but Jimi just seemed like he was at a place where he wanted to leave writing pop songs behind completely. He died the highest paid live act in the world, and all he wanted was a break, then finish his First Rays/Valleys of Neptune album, so he could focus on the jazz fusion. *Yeah, he “lost” all of the actual interview. That’s because he did a terrible job. Jimi would’ve been great for the long form podcast of today, that so many do instead of a late night or magazine interview. I really dig listening to those old BBC segments, in which they got popular musicians to go through the current top 10 singles chart. Jimi has a few I’ve heard, and he had something positive even for music he didn’t like. Or, he just mentions what he likes about each song. Ever hear those?
