Your understanding of this video is actually more on point than many analysis to this song. What you are saying is actually what Jimin is trying to say in his multiple interviews. He was lost during the pandemic and has been drinking until one day he asked himself what he is doing and why is he living like that. He also said he thought for a while that he's genuinely enjoying only to find out that he's not and just trying to escape the loneliness all along.

@@_LVLUP_ Even BTS' song placement on their albums are meaningful. Sometimes on other artists' albums it doesn't really matter in what order you listen but especially for Face (Jimin), Indigo (RM), Layover (V) and Golden (JungKook) you really should listen to them in the order that they're placed; actually, now thinking about it maybe listen to all of Our7 solo albums in order. I mean not necessarily as reactions, but when you're ready to listen to the whole album, for sure in order ... even if you're already familiar with the title tracks.

The hand with mud is his own hand. It's him taking himself to that place where he can escape reality. He spoke about his feelings through pandemic & how he turned to alcohol but he knew it was the wrong path. It's all in his album, it's a story in chronological order of his own feelings & how he coped which eventually led to him setting himself free. Jimin is very much in touch with his own darkness & lightness, he knows they exist & he accepts them. For me I don't think this is about anyone but himself & his own struggles that he faces with himself. There's a woman in the video who he stands in front of which for me I believe is him, the next scene he's looking in the mirror. In the live version where he dances opposite a woman where they mirror each other. The dance is quite explanatory too where he seems to struggle with male/female dancers. Dancing tells a story too so it's worth watching the dance to this song too.

Agree. I do like Bookish theories but I think she got it wrong in this explanation. The Choreography, the choice of clothing (the pants include a very well known queer artist on them), the silver eye liner and earring appearing only on one side of him, which they also replicated on his live performances of this song - all point to many of us understanding that the female figure is the other side of him, not a past love. That understanding, by SMFP2, he has reconciled those two sides of himself. Explanations from Jimin himself are that the songs are all about himself and overcoming his own destructive thoughts and behaviours that were exacerbated by the Pandemic. He wasn’t drinking to excess but he was using it as a crutch to not feel alone. The song leading into Alone on the album is also key to understanding the meaning behind it.

@@nikki4noo Most definitely. This whole EP was about Jimin & Jimin only & fighting with only himself. A lot like to interpret it as him & a relationship with someone else but if you really listen to what Jimin says he tells you it's all about him & his own struggles with himself. His struggles were about him locking himself away in his dark space & not about a relationship with a lover. We all know Jimin for years has faced a lot of criticism, expectations & hate which will have a negative effect at some stage. Imagine waking up everyday & especially during the pandemic, logging on to weverse & being met with a mass of death threats & demands of him to leave BTS which went on for months & still happens occasionally. All I know is that he came out stronger, wiser, more accepting yet still humble. Many still seem to look at Jimin as weak, physically & mentally when he alone came through such a difficult situation with full acceptance of these situations. Even yesterday I saw someone post saying that Jimin went to military with JK because Jimin needed him for his own mental support. Like what the hell?! For me Jimin is one of the strongest mentally because of his acceptance of his dark & light. The shit that man has been through & still endures today from people is astounding especially when you look back on other idols that have not been able to cope with the bullying Jimin has & is facing daily. Bravest & strongest man I know.

I addition to what was already said in the video and other comments I’d like to mention that another generator of Like Crazy and Jimin’s entire album was being unable to perform. At the beginning of the pandemic, their Map of the Soul tour was cancelled, which led to many hours of practice and preparations vanishing along with the possibility to reconnect with fans. Over the years, the members had stated multiple times that Jimin lives to be on stage, that he was born to be a performer, which is not hard to observe in their past concerts. He as well mentioned many times around 2020-2021 that he can’t wait to meet again and have another concert. They managed to hold two online concerts with what they prepared for the mots tour and Jimin’s speach at the end I believe is something hard to erase from memory and it’s impossible not to see the pain of only performing through a screen, his tears there may be enough to break one’s heart. So the hard time of him as an artist during that time comes along with the feeling of loneliness, the uncertainty of days and getting to show different sides of himself.

In the behind the scenes making-off the video Jimin said that obviously since it was during the pandemic the way he felt his loneliness wasn't like they showed in the video, the club was just to help him deliver the message but he was all alone at home reflecting sht ton of things he lost.. the tour, the whole group plans (they planned to start enlisting in the military by 2020, they would be free from that already if things worked out back then 😩), and also in interviews he did say that during that time he also got to see who was a friend and who was with him just for what he "represent", he basically implied that the relationships that hurted him during that time where.more of friends that a romantic one, it doesn't matter they hurted him and that.. alongside alll of the other things happening got him to lean more on the alcohol than he was supposed to.. he quickly realized that and just decided to throw all that into his music and get back into his feet.. he was in charge of everything related to FACE, from composition, lyrics, concept, theme.. he even worked with only 3 in-house super close producers.. no features, no nothing just his story and artistic genius delivery 💛 he is the king of kpop for a reason 👑🎉

18:38 alcohol is definitely a theme throughout the album and from what we heard from Jimin himself, during pandemic it was hard on him and he relied on alcohol maybe a bit too much. Also he alluded to some broken relationship, either with people he thought were friends but betrayed him or romantic relationship we don't know and it's not our place to know, even that is already a lot for him to open about. If you listen to album while it is a story of struggle with yourself, your demons external factors.

The man is so brave for allowing us to see this much of himself. It takes a lot of courage to bare this much of your heart, knowing how much crap they get just for being BTS! I was so honored but a little scared for him that he was comfortable enough to share it with us. On Suchwita Suga said that he saw him struggling but that sometimes you have to allow people to work through their struggles. I'm fairly certain that had he become truly dangerous that his BTS brothers would have intervened...🤞🏾🙏🏾.

♦Jimin mentioned that one of his fav movies “Like Crazy” he watched during pandemic, inspired parts of the song aside from the title of song. In the beginning as well as ending to the song, he even uses excerpt wordings, with voice over actors using dialogue more in tune with song, from it. Jimin has also said that many of the songs on the album convey what he was going through, his thoughts, his feelings, his emotions as well as despair & depression, during the pandemic in the last few yrs. He also was hoping that maybe it could help others by way of relating & going through similar difficulties during pandemic. So this song Like Crazy, could also be during that time, thinking back while laying his head down, on table in that depressing small room, dreaming of the better times in the past, when he was free to enjoy himself, as well as being with someone or with friends, or even around ppl in general, being able to be free to go out & party. Which is why he even said in the lyrics please don’t wake me up from this dream. I want to stay here.. Maybe, since dirt or mud means despair, that was what all the dirty grimyness including on his hands in the end, also represented, despair of situation, how he felt or how things were at that time, even when it seemed to even ooze into his dream state.

Jimin somehow managed to create something upbeat, hot, and unbelievably sad. After I watched it when it dropped, it took me a couple of days to go back to it because of how much it affected me. You picked up on so much that I haven’t seen other people get. AND I never noticed the hand had mud! Thank you for that! The album itself is a full arc starting with Face Off and ending with Set Me Free Pt. 2. Jimin is one of the more private members, so I was surprised at how open and vulnerable he was on FACE. It made for a really great album where you could just feel it come from his heart and his experiences.

Jimin is private when it comes to his life outside of BTS, he for years never showed his home like others did & wanted to keep his private life away from the public which he has managed but as for a lot of the mental aspects I think Jimin has been the most open when it comes to the things he sang about. He's never been afraid to speak on mental health & his own experiences within this.

@@OnlyForThem13 I think I wasn’t clear enough, because yes, he has been to a point (I am not at all slamming him for that), but not quite as specific as he is here that I’ve seen? I’m not thinking of a better word. I will say that I don’t think he’s been the most open in his music out of the group. For me, even as a Jimin bias, that’s been Suga far and beyond all of the other members.

I'm gonna have to disagree with bookish theories. Jimin has said multiple times that his Face album was his "quarantine (covid) experience" and that he was basically drinking too much and depressed. @@_LVLUP_Hello! This is my second video and I wasn’t sure I was going to watch your reaction, but I am glad I stayed to the end. I have to agree with this commenter above. If you watch Jimin’s interviews about his album, he states it is not about a love interest. This is during COVID. He was depressed, drinking too much and having bad behaviors because he felt these were being done to him and it was out of his control. He lives to perform. As the previous commenter stated, Jimin is awesome on the stage. If you get to see BTS in person, your world will be rocked. If you see Jimin in person … mind blown. He is just that great! Jhope is also crazy good on the stage. Back to the video, the female in the video is another version of him. That makes more since when you listen to his song Filter from the MOTS BTS album. While he is lost in his dream, a part of him is search for his true self. In Set Me Free PT 2 he figures things out and becomes healthier. In the BTS book Beyond the Story, Jimin was the first to pull himself out of depression and was key to help the other members pull out of their various journeys getting beyond the shut down of the entertainment industry in South Korea. This was also touched on in the Disney documentary. All this being said, the members have also stated that the listener’s interpretation is valid also. You sharing your story so openly was moving and kept me with the video. As a side note, some reactor’s go overboard with praising the members but don’t really understand the music and I don’t like watching those reactors. From your opening I wasn’t sure which one you were going to be. I watch reactions and hope the reactor likes the music but mostly it is to see someone who enjoys music for music and seeks deeper understandings. Thanks again for the reaction.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Happy belated bday! It's ok to take a day or more off. Glad u like the song too. Loved Set Me Free pt.2. It's catchy. I love this one as well. He sounds so good. It's so catchy. Love the fit and visuals. Adore this 80s synth pop sound. So much hidden meaning in this. I was shocked by this MV. There is choreography, he performed it on Jimmy Fallon. =0) His album is about his feeling about the pandemic. So i try to see that in the songs. Him singing that he wants to be in the lights to me he is saying he wants to be on stage. Reading armies theories and more details from what Jimin has shared about this song I get a better understanding of what he is trying to say. Jimin is also too sexy in this. Gah. For me wasting time meant he was aware he was wasting time. And I agree with some of bookish Theories ideas but not all. ur initial thoughts were spot on to me. Him singing baby is to himself. Sometimes it's referencing us the fans. Among ARMY, there is a saying that BTS finds you when you need them the most in your life. :) My bias is Jin, but I basically love all seven of them. They all have different personalities and different talents, and they seem to combine like cogwheels to create the best balance and synergy. :) Jimin released his first solo album, Face, last March, and the title track of the album, Like Crazy, became the first Korean male solo artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100.

Did a good job understanding and breaking it down. It is a visual the way Jimin said he felt/did during pandemic "fun waisting time", but was able to get of that dark place once they were able to travel for work and concerts. He had something else he could focus on. I'm glad you got out of this place too, lot of us been there.

I haven't liked that channel since she completely diminished Jimin's position as the main dancer and said it didn't matter when people corrected her, but still highlighted only j-hope as the main dancer and JK as the lead dancer. She's also given some backhanded comments about Jimin and his works in other videos, too, and doesn't properly show sources for her claims. Not really a fan of that type of content but each to their own, I guess.

I think that the best way to better understand the meaning behind "Like Crazy", "Set Me Free pt2" and the whole album would be watching an episode of SUCHWITA with Jimin. Jimin and SUGA talk a lot about the creative process and meaning of this album, and you can listen to what he has to say about it directly from him. Also, the documentary is great as well :) Personally, I think it was very intentional to release "Set Me Free pt 2" before "Like Crazy" because fans got the message "I'm ok, I'm free" before they explored more sad and dark parts of the album. So we listened to it with the knowledge we look at the past struggles because present Jimin is in a good place.

The English version is much clearer. Less about a traditional love relationship. More about Army and just feeling isolated during the pandemic. He has some issues with alcohol, went a little crazy. Escaped into another him. Had to “face”himself.

We share a birthday!!🎂 Mine is also on the 5th!!😊 (different decade, I’m sure!!🤣) Yes, Jimin did go through something really personal and shared it with us because he feels that comfortable with ARMY. He said his album FACE was written in chronological order of how he felt through the pandemic and it should be listened to in order, but either way his songs are amazing. I personally think this EP is a masterpiece. 💜💜💜🫰🏻🫶🏻

Please listen to his album FACE, from top to bottom! And if you chose to react to it (lyrics videos, cause there are no more MVs), there will be only two more songs: Face-Off and Alone 🥰 In the Suchwita episode, all the interviews, and his own FACE showcase, Jimin mentioned that this album is about a particular hard time that he went through during the pandemic, when he felt distant from his friends (and lost a few...), was lost as a musician and performer, felt emptiness even towards people he loved, and he was drinking a lot to numb all that pain and loneliness. The whole album is a masterfully created chronological story of his painful emotions and experiences during two years of the pandemic. Thankfully, he was able to overcome these hardships and create this beautiful album ~ P.S.: while Like Crazy is about "love gone wrong" how that creator put it, it's also about escapism (partying and alcohol in this case). Honesty, Like Crazy is the least "personal" song in the album and has more generalised concepts, but it still does have his personal feelings too as it references Jimin's own escapism along with that movie's love story. Comments are saying Bookish Theory is wrong, but they aren't. It's just not the "full story" :D

It makes sense to react to music videos of BTS and the solos first as that is how you get to know them. But some of their best tracks are not their main single releases, their A sides, but their other album tracks, their B sides. So once you get done with music videos I can't wait for you to really dig into their discography and find the MANY hidden gems, that aren't actually hidden if you are ARMY!💜

First of all, happy late birthday! Hope it was a good one for you! And second, your deep analysis on the meaning of the MV is hella impressive bro. I am not entirely sure what the director had in mind when they wrote the treatment but your analysis is pretty solid. And if you listen to the album, there’s an interlude track just before Like Crazy that is a series of what I would describe as foley or ambient noises that tells a bit of a story; essentially portraying what a day-in-the-life is like for Jimin. The interlude ends with Jimin pouring a drink and then it dives right into Like Crazy.

i think you did so well picking up on the darker implications of the song/mv underneath and people will have different interpretations as we always do with bts (that's part of the fun!) but yeah i thought similarly to you when i saw it and getting lost in distractions and alchohol and negativity was a major theme of jimins album face (which is part of what makes ending it with set me free so satisfying). i think, and he's kind of alluded to it, that jimin really had a tough time emotionally with the pandemic and this album was a way for him to get some of those emotions out and challenge himself to turn those more complicated feelings into his music.

Idr but have you started the BU storyline yet? I ask because your attention to details is really good, & you need to be detail focused gor the BU. Can you recognize all the members well yet? Thats the main prerequisite to begin the BU. Mvs etc are usually more important than the lyrics for that. I believe i left a comment on another of your vids i listed the entire list of everything lol. Anyway if you decide to go down that rabbit hole to try to decipher the story yourself, id love to watch with you and i think youll be good at it! 💜💜💜 eta: 8:14 i was a social drinker. I called myself a *weekend alcoholic* even though it wasnt always on the weekend. I self medicated for social anxiety for years. I stopped as i got older, only drinking wine for religious ceremonies. Since my husband died i dont even do that. (I wanted a drink for the 1st time in years that 1st week he died. But i knew grief + alcohol arent the best way to go to fix my life, it would destroy it.) So i still haven't drank not even for religious purposes. I got lucky & didnt actually become a full blown alcoholic. Especially since ive lost many family members to alcoholism 1 way or another. 1 su*cide while drunk & 4 to cirrhosis of the liver including my closest sister and her husband, both a week apart. Im glad you stopped yourself as well. Dont dwell on regrets though, learn from them & grow from them then dont look back. Im glad you stopped. Thank you for sharing your personal stories. We will feel more connected to you that way. And i firmly believe that we need to be more comfortable talking about "taboo" topics like alcoholism, mental health, social expectations etc so i appreciate your thoughts. Thank you 💜

FYI, anything personal or romantic with the BTS members is kept completely private in real life. This is because of Korean cultural expectations which they respect, K-pop industry expectations which are rigid and could damage or end their careers, and protecting them from abuse, hate, even stalking. Once the solos started they did loosen up on the clean, pure image, such as taking their shirts (partially?)off in videos and modeling gigs, and throwing words like f*** into videos. A couple of JK's collaborators were just plain crude, but he had the foresight to make clean versions of his songs. The rap line has used f***, s***, and related concepts but they're not gangsta rap. 90% of the time those were about haters. Suga has show a cc

I don't think Bookish Theories has the best explanation for this song. One thing that Jimin has explicitly said about the song is that the "dream" he wants to stay in is BTS, not a romantic relationship. And in general I think Bookish Theories relies too heavily on the Like Crazy movie for her interpretation and extrapolation that this song is about a romantic breakup. Like Crazy the movie is about a relationship that becomes strained and falls apart because of external forces that pull the couple apart and keep them separated. And their problems are made worse when they try to delay the inevitable (basically one character overstays her Visa and then they are forever in shit with immigration authorities). I think this theme from the movie is relevant to Jimin because at the time he was working on this album, their tour had been cancelled due to the pandemic, everyone was forced to isolate, and he and BTS were facing their mandatory enlistment in the South Korean military (the group had originally planned to enlist together after their cancelled tour, but the pandemic also delayed that). Those are quite a few different external forces pulling him away from important relationships in his life, whether that's his friends and family or his fans. I can imagine he'd be worried about what this distance would do to those relationships. You're spot on about him using alcohol to temporarily escape his worries and problems though. Jimin has basically said as much. I would only add that the muck that seems to represent his negative cycle of thoughts and worries during this time appears whenever he's alone, but is notably absent when he's among other people partying/drinking. Lastly, there is the question of the 'she' referenced in the song and who draws him into this realm of escapism where "there's not a bad thing here tonight." In the MV she's the muddy hand in a leather jacket that pulls him into the club. We also get an in-focus shot of her (while the rest of the club goers are indistinct and blurry) before she faces off with Jimin on the dance floor. Then, the room spins, there's a cut, and the scene changes to Jimin facing himself in the mirror singing about his reflection, because it turns out the 'she' was him all along. In the English version of this song there are even lyrics at this part that say, "all my reflections I can't even recognize" and this part of the choreography has Jimin facing a female dancer while they mirror each other's moves. Mirrors were also a huge theme in the promotion of this album. And to reinforce that 'she' is actually a reflection of him, at the end of the MV when Jimin returns to his room alone, his hand is now muddied too, just like hers was at the beginning.

To be completely honest, neither Bookish nor Celeste have the best interpretations out there. THey have been held as I don't know "go to"? But in my nerd, fantasy, sci-fi lover opinion, they are valuable but totally overrated. For Korean context: DKDKTV (no matter what, their explanation videos are mostly objective, and when assuming they say so). For lyrics: Doolset Bangtan blog. Read them, draw your own conclusions. The other, mentioned, youtubers make mistakes, leave plotholes and twist a perfectly straight up video most of the time. Avoid.
