My previous job had crossed my path with a good amount of celebrity comics and honestly the majority of the ones I've had to interact with are not nice people. I will say though that, thankfully, Martin Short is above and beyond a nice guy behind the scenes. I've never met Ellen but as you've pointed out, the rumors about her seem to be backed up by dozens of people and it doesn't really surprise me, considering the amount of fame and spotlight she had at the top of her career. Wow. The physical comedy is fantastic. There is insider comedy, Wood Allen, who is often forced to be an outsider, and there is outsider comedy, the Marx Brothers, who are easy to identify with. This is a bizarre mix of both. Jiminy Glick is the outsider who desperately wants to be an insider and even when he seems to attain that mantle, he doesn't recognize himself as an insider.

I love how so many comments here think they are skewering the irony of Ellen being called "nice." Unless you actually worked for her or knew someone who did, you have no idea if the rumors are true, distorted, or deliberately false. I judge by what I can actually see: here's a top comic who laughs at herself and isn't afraid to be another comedian's butt of the joke. There are, frankly, very few people in Hollywood one can say that of. Be a hater if you must. I think Ellen is sweet.

I read the reports extensively and while there were some awkward statements and mismanagement on her part, the complaints were largely driven by an individual comedian on social media, followed by a social media “pile on and public dragging fest” and then amplified during the pandemic. If there were real issues, they should have addressed them in court and not on twitter. The public has always LOVED a public witch burning.
