I still like the mk1 too but the mk2 is the sweetspot.

Brilliant driving as always James. I wanted to reach into the screen and throw the engine back into power band for you at 3:05 when it looked like you were going for the shifter lol. I wonder if anyone has done a DSG gearbox and flappy-paddle mod to a GTi 8v yet 😂😂

So then the supercharger is probably shot. Turbo swap it, fuck that G ladder. You can also just drop a 2.0ABA in and turbo it. Or use the aba block with a 16v head and turbo that as the clip is low with that combo.

i have a few Mk2 Golf and Jetta. The chassis is still very capable in today's term. Plus the car is so simple to work on and find speed. It's obvious the Mk7 GTI has a lot of speed compared to mk2, but it is about applying the power with the chassis. The Mk7 is really giving up speed on braking and cornering. Not using the potential of the car at all. It always apply, do u want to drive a slow car fast or a fast car slow. I pick slow car anytime. Good driving by the way.

Hi mate, I am just putting together a similar set up to you on my 8v gti with the newman 268 cam and ported head, i'm just wondering what oil you use? As you seem to do a lot of track days etc, also, are you running a standard oil pump or have you upgraded it? Thanks :-)

Hi mate! Im about to turn 18 and im thinking about getting a golf gti mk2 8v or 16v. I know that the 8v is much economic but is also only 115 hp and I think that can be pretty slow. The 18v has 140 hp but gas is not cheap and the 18v needs way more gas than the 8v. I hope you can help me in this decision. Thanks for your time!
@Jims_racing8 жыл бұрын
Hello mate, they will both be similar on "gas". It all depends how you drive. In standard form i would get 45mpg out of my 8v on a long run. As for 16vs8v its a can of worms! Each have their benefits and drawbacks. Ive been in 5 or 6 16vs and have been very underwhelmed by all of them. 8vs are much more drivable for the road. Even with my cam it sill pulls hard from 1500 rpm. My advice would be to find a mk2 with the best shell you can with no rust-forget the engine. You can swap these very easily at a later date and for little expense. Hope this helps a little bit

8v and then put a BAM 20 valve turbo in :D I do love my tuned 16v though :)
@cooltjes338 жыл бұрын
EugVR6 I owned a 8V and a 16V at the same time. The 8V is at start a little bit faster untill the 16V gets his revvs. At that moment the 16V blows away from the 8V.(red limit is 1000rpm/min higher) I also own a R28 v6 Mk4 but I still prefer the 16V Mk2!

A mate of mine had an 85 Kjet, it had a schrick 272 degree cam and a rebuilt ported head (standard valves) And a Jetex exhaust, it kept up with my mk2 16valve (standard spec) to around 100mph (on track) It went really well. Head work and cam will give you around 20-25bhp. If that helps.
