I just got a mk2 gti last month with a g60 8v engine from a Corrado. It needs some work, but runs. I'm excited to have it.

Goes to show how well a light weight well balanced car can be driven to it full potential while being competitive and out classing more powerful cars with clueless drivers 😃 One complaint though ! DO MORE LAPS DUDE😀 you are great keep it up 👍

Thats approx. Theres a detail spec in the description of some of my other videos. Mainly a full stainless 4 branch and exhaust, 268 cam. They both made a massive difference to the car

Hi.. what is the noise when you shift? Are you blipping the throttle?
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Zack K Hi Zack, no blip its just a fast gear change. The unburnt fuel passes into the exhaust and ignites. When you can here a big pop it usually shoots a flame out the back 😂 ive set up all the fuelling perfect so its not running rich. I guess its just the engine configuration- cam/exhaust etc.

wow., nice! And the use of heel-toe downshift is rare ;-) especially with stock golf 2 pedals. Or did you fix them ?
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Jan G thanks mate! No they are in the stock positions. 👍🏼 if you are struggling make sure the clutch is level with the brake pedal. Mk2’s have a common fault where the clutch stop snaps causing the clutch pedal to sit very high. 👍🏼

Hello James looking to get a mk2 golf gti 16v what features and things should I look for?

Awesome GTI! Do u notice any difference with upgraded cams and exhaust
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Myles Taylor yeah, totally transformed the car! Realistically i think it probably gave 10+ hp but numbers are one thing the way it feels and delivers torque is on another level compared to standard 👍🏼
@mylestaylor63896 жыл бұрын
James Cope Awesome! Do you have any plans to do an engine swap with an R32 or VR6 engine or do you prefer the standard engine you have?
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Myles Taylor not at the moment. The 8v still have some life left and has been completely bullet proof so far! Epic for an old engine! When i do upgrade it will be for a well built 2.0 16v. Although the vr6/32 engines sound fantastic they sit right over and past the front wheels of a mk2 so no good for handling. Ive had a few mates who have the 12v and 24v VR6 and they are incredible engines! No better sound
@mylestaylor63896 жыл бұрын
James Cope sounds great! I don't actually own a GTI myself at the moment but its been a dream since I first started loving cars! Do you daily drive yours? And I guess you drive all the way to the Nurburgring, do you ever get problems or is it really reliable? I apologise for all the questions😂 it's just you seem like the best person on KZbin for GTIs
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Myles Taylor what a great car to start your driving career with! I got mine 10 years ago when i was 16. It sat in a neighbours barn for 8 years and was a bit of a wreck. (Im actually doing loads of welding at the moment!) my advice would be find one with the best shell you can. Forget mileage a car as old as these you might as well ignore that completely. You can pick engines up for £100 so get one with as little rust as possible. I did drive the car daily for around 3 years and it was relatively faultless. However they are nearly 30 years old now so if you get one expect it will need work and things will break. Yes i drive to the Ring, so far not had a single issue apart from My rear brakes on track. Get yourself over to ClubGTI, some cracking information on there and some great guys! If you are from the UK, you are more than welcome to come out for a blast 👍🏼

In terms of modifications :) sorry for my bad english^^
@amaurydoffoux35406 жыл бұрын
Your maximal speed is amazing for a 8v, your gearbox is also different?
@Jims_racing6 жыл бұрын
Amaury Doffoux the engine is fairly stock. The bottom end is completely standard, the head has been rebuilt to standard spec (no porting etc) has a Newman 268 cam, modified standard airbox, full stainless steel exhaust including a 4 branch manifold. Thats it for engine tuning. The Gearbox is also the standard 020 box 👍🏼
@amaurydoffoux35406 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And so you have 125hp? I’ m actualy building an engine, With a 272, ligther flywheel, 4/2/1 inox, and eprom So almost the same! What’s yout speed max? I see that go so far 😳

Quad turbos...8v wud need internal upgrading big time...or she will fire a conrod out the side of the block...1.9 crank will fit into the 8v block with a small bit of grinding and give you a longer stroke👍its hard to mod the 8v engine...good 16v with some mods..140mph
