Isn't it wonderful that this medium exists now to preserve not just the music, but our collective discussions about what it means to us?

This song is so similar to the blues songs of the day. A lot like Robert Johnson. What’s cool is he took the blues and added his own twist with the yodeling

Wow, loved your reaction. That's great. You hit so many great points. One thing I would point out as a parallel is that while Jimmy Rogers packed all that stuff into a short amount of time and Influence People for decades, one person that he highly influenced that came along a bit later who had an even more compressed time frame, was Hank Williams senior. You could argue that his main output was between 1949 and 1952 so, 4 years. He got Jimmy beat by 2 years, laugh. But yeah just an astounding piece of history and I'd never seen that footage before, that is wonderful. I already mentioned the Lynyrd Skynyrd cover of this which is fantastic by the way. They really are tipping their hat to him, and of course all of the Hank Williams Senior stuff, Listen to Hank yodel and it's right from Jimmy Rogers man and in fact he references him in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song railroad song. Which by the way is an incredible song which I rarely see people react to. It's about hobos and the Great Depression moving around but the narrator in that case sung by Ronnie Van zant, directly references Jimmy Rogers is saying that he wants to figure out what that music was all about and he's going to ride a train until he finds out.

I loved the Ken Burns doc. I’ve seen it a couple times now. I came to country later in life so it’s great to see all the history and the blanks filled in.

Thank you for doing this. This is the music my grandpa played to me back in the 1940's. I was just a small boy who followed him behind his mule as he plowed the garden. Then we would sit on the porch and get out those old 78 records and play Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family and Hank, Sr. What a way for a little boy to grow up in the Southland.

Jimmie Rodgers style/sound has, Imo, a strong Piedmont Blues feel. And it may actually be considered that, according to experts, historians etc. Piedmont Blues is described as a blend of gospel, ragtime, fiddle tunes, blues and country. Whatever type of music it is, one things for sure, it's mighty damn good. Another great reaction! And yeah, like others have mentioned, you gotta check out Skynyrd's T for Texas.

nice to see you reacting to jimmy rogers, he has a lot of great music. Hank williams sr is another really influential one who people don't react to much beyond one or two songs x

Jimmie Rogers "The Singing Brakeman" takes me back to spending summers at my Paw-Paw's house. He was always listening to him. No better place to start than with him and the Carter Family

Thx Tasha! I love your music quests! One thing to remember about history is that unrecorded history is still history! Most music was composed and performed in living rooms and porches or street corners and campfires! Just walking down the street I’ll sing an impromptu song! But there’s no record. Thx again!

I haven't even started yet but if you like Lynyrd Skynyrd and you should check out their live version of their cover of this which is substantially different but they're totally paying homage to Jimmy Rogers which everyone should do basically. He was a Pioneer for sure.

Someone suggested that this is not country, at that time it was not labeled country. But, it was people's music. That is what country is all about.Tom T Hall said it best when he wrote, " Country Is," and concluded that country is all in your mind.

I find it interesting how many different facets of society were evolving simultaneously across this country. This doesn't happen now with modern communications. Everything is connected somehow.

You are digging really deep into the country music genre! I think country music is okay but it isn’t my favorite genre. I prefer rock and r & b music with some funk added. But keep up the great work you are doing. It is obvious that you are putting forth the effort! So keep on keeping on. 😁
