There were others but Jimmy was the main man bringing the B3 from the church to the jazz clubs and influenced so many music genres in doing so. Thank you, Jimmy! Nothing sounds like the 1930's tone wheel. Thank you, Laurens Hammond.

The first time I ever heard this tune was when I was back in grade school (early 70's). Our school had a local jazz combo come in to expose us to different kinds of music. I never, even after all these years was able to get "The Cat" out of my head...biggest ear worm ever! I have always believed that this song started my on my path to becoming a professional singer/songwriter/guitar player.

Growing up in a Household with my father who is a WW2 Vet, I was exposed to this music at a very young age. The quality of this video is good given the age. I still have a original pressing of "The Cat" album in my collection. So glad that today's generation is also discovering vinyl, my kids now in their mid-late 20's act like they just discovered electricity. If you like Piano BTW pull up some Eubie Blake, clearly one of the great pianists of all time. Having both Jimmy and Eubie in your organ and piano collection will keep you young and happy forever. 😎

So I found some, for me new Music I like lol Strange Way to find Music, what would we do without the Internet, can't really remember these Times. If you are interested in Thriller and Forensics, try Simon Beckett, but start with the first of the David Hunter Serie . Would be cool if you would find a Book you like through Jimmy Smith 😁 Have a nice Day everybody .

I am not familiar with this relatively new artist Jimmie Smith. I remember the original Jimmy Smith rocking the Hammond B3 back in the day. Woodward Avenue Records was founded several years after the original Jimmy Smith passed.
@inmyopinion9917 Жыл бұрын
That's not the real (original) Jimmy Smith. The names are spelled differently, the sound is different, and they don't look alike. This guy spells his name "Jimmie". The Jimmy Smith of the 50's, 60's, and 70's spelled his name "Jimmy". If you compare this guy to pictures of the original Jimmy Smith you can clearly see that they are not the same person. He's stolen the Jimmy Smith persona. 😕😕
@jonathanveenker6981 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this gentleman does a fine job on the organ. But he is absolutely, nowhere even close to the famous Jimmy Smith. He should really think about trading under a name that won't always invite comparisons

Jimmy would not share his registrations. But, people figured it out by trial and error. Great clip, with horns. The Hammond sk2 in the background was not around when Jimmy was alive. The playing sounds okay, but Jimmy put on a lot of weight.
