Just recently became a Big Fan of JV. He definitely has his own sound which I would describe as " Texas Swing meets The Chicago Blues " . His music has a nostalgic old school flavor to it which I love . The guy is just plain Cool !

That's some fat Texas strangin' there now....Jimmie squeezes the essence out of the songs he plays. His distinct style of playin' along with his "no shit mister!" vocals puts him in a category alongside other original American artists. I lucked out that year and caught Jimmie and band @ Antone's in Austin, it was a killer show. Thanks so much kentron8000 for uploading these vids and joggin' my memories of what was a truly magical night in Texas. The folks attending Puisto in Finland won't forget

I used to watch Jimmy when he was with Storm at. The Onenite , and later with The Fabulous Thunderbird's, this was back in 1975 and later , Stevie was playing with Paul Ray and The Cobra's with Denny Freeman and I think Keith Ferguson and Mike Buck , Austin Texas was great, you could eat at Casita Jorge's or El Patio then catch some great music at The Armadillo World Headquarters or The Hole in The Wall , Austin was great

Gotta Love how much this guy gets into his craft: Catch the "Yea Baby!" he says to himself at .38 seconds!! And for all the guys who want to slam on JLV check out that Monster run of sweet nasty licks at 1:21. In Texas that's what seperates the Men from the Boys and the REAL DEAl from the posers.

I'm late but I enjoyed that video. It's a pure joy listening to that song. I remember a long time ago when Guitar Player made some acetates records and E. Van Halen did a blues. It was ridiculous. Even the master himself said he must be drunk when he played that blues. So saying Jimmie is easy to play? It's seems like that. But if it's so easy, why no others guitarists like him are playing all over the world?

I don't know, I think his greatest line was when he was trying to offend me "you act like your opinion means jack shit, when it doesn't."
@BarryBunghole
@BarryBunghole 11 жыл бұрын
I'm not allowed to have an opinion? My opinions are clearly more educated than yours, I actually happen to play, i know what's hard and what's easy. What takes talent, and what's simply a gimmick.. Where you don't. I love the blues, and I find it highly disrespectful that there are some people who have no aptitude for it whatsoever are in the spotlight. Jimmie Vaughn is to soul what Justin Bieber is to mainstream.

Finally, incase you didn't notice, "La Grange," isn't a traditional blues song so it doesn't have the predictable 12 bar progression that allows most guitarists to improvise. So it makes all the more sense to practice ahead for that particular song. The fact is YOU NEVER know what a guitarist did before he/she does a show, whether it's blues, rock, funk, jazz; you can only suspect and if you want to dispute that statement be my guest but you'll sound like a kid.

And why doesn't anyone plan ahead of a blues show? Because they're generally 12 bar standards? I have a feeling your about to say something stupid so I wanna hear your response to this

Because if you knew anything about playing the guitar, you would know that the solo JM did wasn't hard to play. Somebody as good as JM wouldn't have produced a solo like that if they had as you say 'planned ahead.' Also, you clearly know nothing about the guitar because you clearly don't know that NOBODY EVER PLANS AHEAD FOR A BLUES SHOW.

Why "touch"? It's not a race or a hierarchy, it's music. Both played à lot, but a lot, together and were complementary. But they are a lot of Bonamassas on the market and they all play thousands of notes very very well.
@BarryBunghole
@BarryBunghole 11 жыл бұрын
Dude, the blues is about improv. You NEVER plan a solo unless you're recording. Ok, I'll try to explain it to you. Take a 2 hour Steve Vai concert. Do you really think he remembers EVERY EXACT NOTE that he played on the record, and plays those exact same notes on the tracks he decides to play live? He doesn't. It's something I know with experience. When you do shows, your solos never sound the same from each gig. They can have the same elements, but the notes are never exactly the same.

Holy shit, Barry! I know you're replying to attituderoyale, but I just have to say that I see I've got you all wrong. I thought you were some loud-mouthed idiot, but you're really here to do a stand-up routine. Two great lines in there: "You'll look back on whatever I've said ... " like you don't actually know what it was that you said, and "until then you need to learn some humility ... " That, young Barry, is pure comedy gold!!

Well done, I made a grammatical mistake. At least I'm mature enough to admit that I did. You on the other hand still want to claim "you think your opinion about it means jack shit" and "your opinion means jack shit" are the same thing. I'd like you to man-up and answer my question about how you KNOW all these things, or admit that it was incorrect or an exaggeration.

Firstly, and I don't mean this in an offensive way, you need to learn English before you start mis-interpreting statements and offending people. "Jack-shit" means nothing. I think you were trying to say, "you're opinion means jack-shit." Secondly, I was going to respond to your argument about your opinion but you already made yourself look dumber by contradicting yourself. In your last statement, you complained that you should have an opinion but here, you imply that my opinion is uselsess.
