Is this the type of lateral force that can cause the unhappy triad (ACL, MCL, meniscus)?

I believe it can be! usually unhappy triad happens when you get a valgus force while the foot is fixed. Based on the mechanic of Butler's tibia in that awk rotation position it could cause a injury similar to that seen with the usual way unhappy triad occurs.
