Jimmy Capps’ guitar playing is so soulful, melodic and rich sounding.Every note has a purpose. Wow!!! I met him twice and he was so nice to talk to. Just listening to his playing here has a huge impact on me. His playing and touch on the guitar is just amazing! I will listen more to him to absorb the soulfulness of his playing.

These are what are called musicians, not one of them in competition with each other, no over playing no distortion just pure clean playing....just pure music at it's best...

I’ve had Jimmy Capps and Charlie McCoy play on my album sessions. I’d brought my favorite Yairi classical guitar to the sessions, and after Jimmy had played it on a couple of songs, he said he needed it, and how much would I sell it to him for. Well, as it WAS Jimmy, I quoted the exact amount I’d paid for it. He didn’t have the cash with him, so he asked if he could mail me a check. It came the next week. I’ve missed that guitar, but seeing him play it on TV a couple of times thrilled me. A supremely nice man, (as is Charlie) versatile, simply the best guitar accompanist I’ve ever worked with. I miss him. We all do.

I love to watch Jimmy play. You can just see the the love and reverence he has for it. It's so sad that the most influential generation in country music are mostly gone now, people that provided me with so much musical pleasure all these years. All of the Hanks, Ray Price, Merle and Waylon, Porter and George and on and on and.on.

Jimmy Capps' home town of Benson, NC, will honor him with a special recognition weekend on May 11, 2019. Events include two concerts and a book signing for his autobiography, "The Man in Back," which tells the story of his 60+ years playing guitar as a member of the Grand Ole Opry staff band. Jimmy is a living legend among country music fans and performers. Even people who may not have heard of him have likely heard his guitar playing on hundreds of hit songs by numerous recording artists.

Over 60 years as lead guitar on the Grand Ole Opry. He was the "king" of session guitar players for decades. He played acoustic or lead on over 5000 recordings coming out of Nashville (many of which were hits). He is also in the musicians Hall-of-Fame and is an official "Nashville Cat" (which he considers his greatest honor). Jimmy says that the best recordings are "overdubs" where the singer and the band music track are not done together. He claims this gives the band a lot more artistic latitude. The singer sings to the band track, not the other way around. Jimmy, unlike most other guitar players in Nashville can also play to written sheet music. But mostly he uses the Nashville Number System which allows these player to play in any key on the fly.

He was an excellent player, to be sure, but that is not an ordinary acoustic guitar. Conser the quality of the guitar itself, a pickup, and amp with effects.

R.I.P mr, Jimmy Capps, never be another Jimmy Capps ever. I talked to this man on the phone, he was the nicest person ever, I had his phone number and told him that I didn't want to call him, because I knew how busy he was. He said don't worry about it, you can call me any time, What a great person. The day, he passed away I will never forget, I was on the road when my wife called me and told me that Jimmy Capps had passed away, I pulled over to the side of the road and cried my eyes out.
