Someone who actually knows what they're doing. That's really refreshing, not to mention actually informative. I picked up the use of a bowl gouge by watching others and an instinctive feel for the way it's cutting, - but I can see watching this that that most of them really had no clue. Thank you, now I've got it, now I understand how and why it cuts better one way than another.

Wow! Jimmy, I have heard your name in the turning world for years but this was the first time I had seen you turn. Let me just sat that I agree with Al Furtado. You are a fabulous turner and have a great artistic eye, and you're humorous as well. Love the way you make turning look so easy. You are an inspiration!

I have enjoyed the last 6 minutes of the video, very mellow, calming part of it. But, my real enjoyment were the first 34 mins of it. Jimmy is very entertaining but highly educative at the same time. Great skills, great approach to the audience, fast cuts, but not fast on explaining what he is doing.... all of that makes these 34 mins not to feel like waste of time, but a great lesson to learn, and try by oneself. Thank you, guys, even that this is now 3 1/2 years old video.

Thank you, I am very logical type - my engineering and physics background - setting speed higher to reduce the air to wood ratio in turning. I see a lot of turners who seem they could reduce wood damage by increasing the speed some. Granted it does also depend on balance of piece - great instruction video

Took me about 10 mins to recall where his accent originated, then he later confirmed with, ''my mate in Newcastle.'' Obviously well experienced, and fully competent, without loads of boring ''waffle'' like some. Actions always speak louder than words. Enjoyed the demonstration, and found it very educational, but turning with 'wings' gives me the heeby-jeebies, ever since I got my finger tip whacked by one.
