Allison sits down with 5-time grammy winner and both a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductee, Jimmy Jam. He and his production partner, Terry Lewis, have more Billboard #1s than any other songwriting/production team in chart history. With a career spanning over four decades, he has worked with icons including Prince, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Usher, Maria Carey, and Mary J Blige and not only worked with, but helped develop Janet Jackson’s sound. They talk all about the stories behind working with Janet & Michael Jackson, lessons learned from Prince’s passing, teaching Michael Jackson what’s most important, and they even receive a special call-in from Terry Lewis.

Right! After hearing her say, "Jimmy Jam (who I respect immensely) was a pioneer of New Jack Swing",' she immediately lost credibility because the simplest of research/factfinding would have helped her avoid making that mistake. It also establishes whether you're serious or not about the subject matter. I'm sure MOST of her audience will not even give it a second thought until they arguing with someone at a trivia game! Then when they have to reveal their source, it'll be quite embarrassing! It could have all been avoided with a simple google search! LOL!!

Prince is my favorite artists ever. I grew up in Kyoto Japan when two jazz musicians for parents & Prince was always on repeat in my household. I was born 99 too so when i hear 1999 it's so personal to me. Prince is known for his amazing musicianship, dance moves, those iconic splits. He was an amazing drummer, pianist, keyboardist, bassist, guitarist, dancer, singer, engineer, producer, band leader, lyrcist, rapper, song writer. However Prince doesn't get the credit for how incredibly spiritual he was. Songs like "Question Of U" "The love we make" "New World" "Sign o the times" are such amazing examples of that but Prince's reverance for women was unmatched. I challenge any woman to hear "And God created Woman" or "Adore" & not be enpowered. Loved this interview so, so much. 🤗

@@AllisonHagendorf thank you so much for highlighting New Jack Swing, it’s not given as much light to music history as it should be, we all know Teddy Riley is foundational to many, from his shear capacity of innovation…. That makes us have the freedom to really dig deep and enhance signature producers such as Jam & Lewis. … I mean what if What if Nine Inch Nails and Dr.Dre co-Produced Janet’s next Album 😜🤪 we have the richness of music vocabulary to do this , these hybrids of music we call mash ups today, is what many of us in sync with coming from the remix / sample culture, which spanned other arts, not just music. So thank you Allison for honouring living legend JIMMY JAM, of Jam & Lewis . 🙏🏾 ps your intro for him was incredible.

I hope this won't turn into a big comment but I remember so vividly and tried to forget. In 1990, I was absolutely in love at that time. And one day, my sweetheart said to me gene, you have to see this. And she played Janet Jackson Rhythm nation DVD. I don't know what kind of expression on my face but I loved it. And after that my girlfriend didn't want me to see Janet's DVD again. I think because that day I fell in love with the songwriting and music production process. They was jammin. Rhythm Nation tour came to my town when my love let me go. I got in line at Ticket Masters to buy a front row seat to Janet's concert. I remembered my ex girlfriend got jealous with anything with janet. So I got all the way up to the ticket desk then got out of line. Then years later found out my ex went to a Janet's concert. But the good thing that came out of this is that I taught myself as much as I could and making tracks. I love it. Janet, Terry, Jimmy, Teddy, and Michael has inspired me so much that the same fire is raging inside of me still. Thank you.

So Allison, you got me to subscribe with this interview. The first interview I saw on your platform was the Paul Stanley interview. KISS was the first concert I ever saw back in 1979 back in Long Island New York. The TIME and their song COOL back in the day is the song I did my first talent show too. Like you Allison I was a Dancer. I aimed to get in the music business after winning that talent show to Jimmy’s Band. So this was a treat. Thanks for the excellent interview. I love ROCK and all the genres most of it. So thanks. Nice way to start my weekend. I wish I had Tick Tock back then, because like you ,my dance act was setting up our own videos back then in the 80s when I started out in the business. But, I ended up becoming a recording artist and Performance coach. Dreams can come true. I didn’t become as famous like the guys I followed or inspired me. That wasn’t point. You have to do things in life which means something to you as an individual. Thanks Allison for this amazing interview.
