Jimmy is one of my heroes in life. Whenever I listen to him speak, I learn so much. He doesn't get enough credit for taking the risks he took to build that Dallas team. He was mocked badly by the press for those moves he made. I hope Jerry and Jimmy can be reconciled again at Cowboys stadium one day.

The 1976 Bad News Bears, with Walter Mathauew "to me" sums up what was expected of kids, and specifically kids in sports in those day's, and for whatever may be viewed as inappropriate, or excessively harsh, I am extremely thankful to have been a kid at that time, and I am still very grateful for the lessons I learned then today!

Gotta love Jimmy Johnson but he wasn't being completely honest (38:00) when discussing leaving the Cowboys. It was about him and Jerry Jones and ego's. It was about the statement that Jerry Jones made saying after Super Bowl 28, that “There are 500 coaches who could have won the Super Bowl with our team.” That was a definite dig at Jimmy Johnson and it's been said time and time again, that that comment was what really pushed Johnson into leaving. Initially, the deal between the two men was that Jerry would handle everything involving finances, and Jimmy would handle all of the football aspects of the team. Well, Jerry did a hell of a job with the finances and is the owner of the team, he eventually wanted some of that limelight, maybe too much, it depends who is asked. The Cowboys weren't the money generators they are today and Jerry Jones spent a lot of hours working hard to make the Cowboys very prosperous. Jimmy Johnsons has stated since then that maybe he should have been more willing to share the limelight with Jerry Jones back then. This is an older video, since then Jimmy Johnson was selected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020 and just a few days ago, into the Cowboys Ring of Honor. He was selected to the College Hall of Fame in 2012. Jimmy Johnson is now 80 ears old and looks and sounds pretty much like he does in this video. He's an ageless wonder. a self made man, and a much loved man and coach.

@@paleo704 I agree with u on just that one point. Dallas was struggling and not winning in his last three seasons at the helm. He was the one who started what the Cowboys became as we know them, "America's Team", the most popular sports franchise for many years, the most watched NFL team til this day with legends and elite talents like "Captain Comeback" Roger the Dodger Staubach, "Mr Cowboy" Bob Lily, "Bullet" Bob Hayes, Tony Dorsett, etc. Yes, he overstayed his time with Dallas and should have left earlier at a high point, but it was tough seeing him being such a coaching legend in pro football to have left Dallas in the way that he did. So much respect for this man. Hardest thing in my life was losing my best friends, Max & Phoenix. Best friends don't lend you a hand, they lend you a paw.

Everyone he's been as a coach he's been successful. Those Miami hurricane teams in the 80s were very good

Jimmy took over an absolute dumpster fire of a team and turned them into champions in 4 years. Then won again the year after. Amazing work ethic but as he said it comes with a very high cost. He's much happier on tv and it's great to see because he's earned his peace. Thanks Jimmy. Have fun today and have more fun tomorrow.

As a lifelong 49ers fan, obviously I hate the Cowboys and that 90s rivalry was as deep rooted hatred as it got, but I *ALWAYS* respected Jimmy Johnson through it all

Most all people down here in the greater Dallas area did not like Jerry and Jimmy when they ‘came to town’. Things changed and today a lot of people down here really like Jimmy.

I really enjoyed this interview. I have enjoyed watching Jimmy during his career. I love the old time values. He did not want to disappoint his parents. A real leader of men. I wish he was our president.

Dallas left a good three Super Bowls on the table because JJ & JJ couldn't stay together. The '85 Bears did the same thing, only with Ditka and Buddy Ryan.
