That Super Bowl is forever ingrained into my brain. It was such a complete domination and the fact it was here in Pasadena where I live made it even more special. Every time people say that the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 28 years I tell them I’ve watched them win 5 and this game was so special if I don’t get to see them win another I’m okay with that. I would love to meet Jimmy and thank him for everything that he did to bring 3 Super Bowls to Dallas. Sorry Barry but I give Jimmy credit for yours 😂

You're right to give Jimmy credit for 1995. It was his team, his offensive an defensive philosophies, his draft picks that did it. I don't know how Switzer went from being a great college coach to being the clown he was at Dallas.

Great video. Im a Cowboys fan, and Im not going to lie, I was worried going into that Superbowl in 1992, because Buffalo was LOADED on both sides of the ball, and they had playoff experience. I hated how arrogant Jimmy Johnson was in college, and rooted against him when he coached for Miami, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to restrain myself from loving him when he started coaching my team in Dallas. The guy was a PERFECT coach for any level of football. Great motivator, a disciplinarian who didnt allow his guys to let up, an incredible evaluator of talent, and lastly, the ability to sell trades to other teams that made us the dynasty we were, and when I say that, im not just talking about the Herschel Walker trade. Jimmy conned other teams into serious draft picks and players his entire stay with us. You just wonder what could have been had he stayed in Big D, and not conflicted with Jerry Jones. Theres a possibility that we could have won four Superbowls in a row, and maybe even more.
@thelogicalcowboy

Great breakdown! People forget that as much as the 90's dynasty is known for the Triplets, it was their defense that got them to the promised land 3 times in 4 years! I remember Johnson saying before that 49ers game that if his offense tried to win it on their own they'd lose so he wanted them to play ball control (thank you Emmitt) and limit mistakes so his defense could win the game. Anyway, thank you for spotlighting the defense for a generation who cares more about fantasy stats than the truth!

Jimmy J was the only coach on the planet with the football IQ, training discipline, and innovation to replace Landry. Had he had the moral compass, he would have been the total package. Nevertheless, his on-field results speak for themselves. It was truly a disservice to the Cowboy Nation when Jerry's ego muted his appreciation. That was as great a team as ever took the field. Johnson built it, trained it, inspired it, and equipped it with great schemes week after week. Great video! You did a masterful job of understanding the content and breaking it down for us. Jerry's money built it along with Johnson. Johnson was like a spoiled teenager with his parents buying him everything he wanted (except James Francis, they made him settle for Emmitt Smith) and eventually acted just like a spoiled teen does when they grow up. He disrespected the people who made his football genius possible by giving him a team and allowing him to mold it how he wished. Heck, what he was given was so good that a neighbor kid was able to come and win a Superbowl with his toys! 😅
@David-wc7lx

@trjohnson57 Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to endure yet another ignorant comment given by an individual who knows NOTHING of which he speaks. Jerry's money? Wrong! The Cowboys were the richest franchise at the time. All Jerry's money bought was the ownership of the most successful, self-sustaining franchise in the league. Settle for Emmitt? Was your mother on drugs while you were in the womb? You are suggesting that the Cowboys "settled" for the greatest running back in the history of the NFL. How am I not supposed to laugh at you?

@@trjohnson57 Who drafted all those toys? Who made 98% of the trades to help the rosters talent level? Who worked with them daily? And developed them? It was not Jerry or Barry. To put some perspective on how impressive it was Jimmy defused and clamped down on the K-Gun: When Buffalo played SF, who Dallas had not only beat in the 92 NFC CG but had also allowed the 3rd fewest points overall , they had 510 yards of offense (including 403 pass yards from Jim Kelly) and never punte Buffalo also had a road win against New Orleans (#2 ranked defense in 92) and their historic 35-3 playoff comeback vs Houston (#3 ranked defense) For Dallas #1 ranked defense to do what they did…… most impressive

I was so scared of Buffalo using that 35-3 comeback to snowball into the Superbowl. They had been there before, and that game showed they had some heart for the first time in the playoffs. Its so funny to hear Jimmy talking about the 92 Superbowl now, and how he was absolutely certain that in a few hours, they would be winning the championship. I wish he had told my family and I that before the game, because I sure didnt feel it would be the cake walk it was lol.

On the USFL, Young's LA Express had a big lead late against Kelly's Houston Gamblers and the Gamblers came all the way back to win (want to say 36-35,both offenses played well).

@redmustangredmustang

The Redskins were able to use those blitzes up the middle very effectively in the previous Super Bowl. The first play of the second half, the Redskins blitzed a linebacker up the middle and Thurman Thomas couldn't pick it up and Jim Kelly threw it right to Kurt Gouveia the linebacker and ran the ball down to the two. Next play the Redskins go up 24-0. The Cowboys blitzed Kenny Gant up the middle. Kelly threw it right to James Washington for the first turnover. Jimmy also brought in a lot of defensive line players to keep up with Buffalo. That's where Charles Haley comes in as the final piece with his pass rush. The Cowboys were able to keep up because as you said speed. That's again what made Jimmy great was he was able to draft the right players especially on defense.

Great video. A few things I vividly remember about the Jimmy Johnson era. 1. An older friend of mine (about 8 years older) and I were playing golf and both being Cowboys fans we were like 'I think this team is really good and is going to surprise people' during the preseason. They went 1-15. 2. Our HS football coach was a dick, nobody liked him and nobody wanted to play football for him, including myself. He claimed that Jimmy's defense was a 'high school defense' and he'd be gone in 3 years from the NFL, never to be heard from again. Same guy that when our school moved up a division...went winless for 3 years in a row. 3. When Alvin Harper caught that slant against the Niners to seal the game, I knew right there and then the Cowboys had won the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl against the Bills was never in doubt in my mind. 4. Being from upstate NY, growing up nobody liked Bills (they were mostly Giants and Cowboys fans) until the Bills started winning. Then all of the sudden they all became Bills fans. I remember when the Bills beat the Oilers in that historical comeback, everybody and there mother somehow was at that game. I didn't know Ralph Wilson stadium sat 3 million people. Anyway, being at the Super Bowl party surounded by Bills fans with just me and my buddy Fred as the sole Cowboys fans and watching them crush the Bills was as sweet as it got. 5. Gotta give Jerry some credit here. Hired a college coach. And my HS football coach wasnt't he only one that thought Jimmy was a 'HS Coach' and didn't think the scheme would work or that Jimmy didn't know what he was doing in the draft. I remember one expert saying that the Cowboys were going to be setback 20 years by Jimmy's drafting strategy. And then to go 1-15 and still keep Jimmy. Took a lot of balls for Jerry to do.

My dad had the opportunity to meet Jimmy Johnson but passed. It was right after Jimmy had been announced as the head coach, and he was alone in a bar. No one was talking to him because everyone in Dallas was mad about how Landry was treated. The bartender pointed him out to my dad, but my dad didn't want to talk to the guy who replaced Landry in the way he did. It's one of his biggest regrets. He obviously came to love Jimmy Johnson and wishes he bought him a drink that night to welcome him to Dallas. The locals loved Tom Landry like a father, we have entire highways marked with his trademark hat, I have met multiple people whose first name is Landry.

Very well done 👏🏻. Love the breakdown and REALLY loved that Oklahoma State coaches pic…wow on that crew. I’d forgot about the goal line stand. OMG on Ken Norton Jr. making that stop. When you watch it a few times in a row you are just stunned the runner doesn’t get in the end zone. I’ve been saying for years that the key to that game was Ken Norton knocking Jim Kelly out of that game. If he stays in I think it’s a much different game. I looked it up and DAL was 6.5 favored…which is shocking. So many defensive stars in the game. I loved Coach Landry but Jimmy Johnson is my favorite coach in all of sports. It’s hard for people to understand just how good he was. Every press conference had a purpose. It could be to serve notice to an upcoming opponent or one of the players. Remember the Curvin Richards move by JJ ? Coach Johnson was all about getting his message across. Looking back I think there was only one more Super Bowl to have been had if JJ and JJ had have stayed together. I think Jimmy Johnson the human realized his all consuming method of coaching took a toll on his personal life. I’m happy to see him on FOX every week knowing he has a very fulfilling life. Thanks again LC for the video 👍🏻👍🏻 Any chance you’d do a : WHY JIMMY BELONGS IN THE ROH NOW video ? 🤣

Please continue to make more videos of my 90's Cowboys thank you so much! And how bout them Cowboys!

Great breakdown!!! 1984-1996 in the NFL was an amazing time of great NFC teams. It always seemed like the NFC title game was the Super Bowl & in some years 2 or more teams could’ve beat the AFC team. Think about the Cowboys emerging with great teams like the 1991 Redskins, & some of those Eagles & Giants teams. It’s like the firing of Buddy Ryan after the 1990 season along with Parcells leaving the Giants at the same time left behind excellent teams that made bad coaching choices. Along comes the Cowboys that JJ built to beat those rivals & it was more than the 49ers could handle until 1994. I’ve always wondered if those Cowboys teams changed top NFL defenses into what we see today with the emphasis on speed.

That was a great breakdown. A good Cowboys game to breakdown would be week 1 (vs. Redskins) 1992. In my eyes, that was an indication of how special the ‘92 Cowboys were destined to be.

Im from Toronto and would go down to Buffalo for a couple games a year in the 80s and 90s. The Bills offence was incredible. Best game I was at was the Eagles Fred Barnett game, also saw Deion run one back, and a beast of a game versus Steelers. I hardly saw the Bill lose. I only saw the Cowboys once in Buffalo (I also saw the Boys in Detroit). Here I am gushing bout the Big offence but my fav team is Dallas... Bils are "the local team" tho.

I think we're forgetting the 12 players and picks JJ got from Minnesota for Hershel Walker. Scheme helps but when you have more than a full defense of additional players, you're kind of starting with a loaded deck. Still interesting, just... include all the imporant deets.

Super Bowl XXVII was just a cherry on top the game that, in my mind, established the dynasty, was the championship game against San Francisco 2 weeks earlier. Shutting down to 49 offense required great defense and ball control from the offense. That's what really showed the completeness of that team

GREAT VIDEO as always!!!! The 92 Cowboy defense is one of the most criminally underrated defenses to ever play in a SB despite the nine turnovers and two touchdowns. They could also stop the run and be counted on to make a big play in the biggest of games. Jimmy Johnson's teams were very physical in a physical era and played very disciplined ball. They didn't make many mistakes.

The Cowboys defense was built on speed. They were able to run down the Bills speedy players. That being said, Andre Reed had 15 catches for over 220 yards total in back to back Super Bowls against the Cowboys fast top 10 defenses. That shows how good of a receiver Reed was.

Great video also the Giants 17:03 Bill Belichek exposed them in the Bills first SB which is the one they should have won but little Bills scheme ( more DBs over LBs ) and the giants running game and well wide right helped the Giants defeat them. Vs our beloved Cowboys they never had a shot
