I went to my great uncle Jimmy Martins house growing up and I remember Ol Pete. He had a lot of dogs . He made me cry laughing everytime I saw Jimmy. He was the BEST !!!!!!

@@oldan1954 Finally responding to ya. The album is buried behind some other stuff currently. Since it's a Greatest Hits compilation, I would guesstimate any number of the know banjo pickers who played with Jimmy could be on any particular cut. J.D. Crowe and Bill Emerson stand out of course.

to this day it amazes people that this legendary which became a bluegrass track was written 2 Raiders. the great Mark Lindsay and Keith Allison. who along with Paul Revere and the rest of the band gave us those classic songs like just like me kicks hungry and more. there's been arguments about this but when you look at it this is not an original Jimmy Martin or Tony Rice or bluegrass song originally it's more of a folk blues song written by 2 Raiders. and the original is just as cool
@sandburgmartin7947 Жыл бұрын
You know your rock history. 2 rockers wrote it but it is a bluegrass anthem. Just goes to show how music is from the heart and soul. No genre is superior...just borrows from each other.
@ccorbin7128 Жыл бұрын
That’s a great point. Mark Lindsay’s original says “I was born in the Northland” while Jimmy’s version says “Southland”. And I like Jimmy’s bluegrass version better.

Not taking anything away from Billy, he is a hell of a guitar player and all around good instrumentalists and musician. However, him or anyone else have a voice like Jimmy and could really throw it out there. The drive, the timing, and just right down hard driving bluegrass music, Jimmy couldn't be beat. The only thing that Billy could beat Jimmy at is his guitar. Billy is good on a mandolin too, never really heard him on any other instruments but I am sure he's good on them too.
