He's been awarded the OBE, Order of the British Empire, which is just below being Knighted. I agree, Jimmy Page is one of The Greatest songwriters, producers, etc., I honestly believe that a British citizen must have never sought out another country in order to escape the British taxation system, which was just archaic in the seventies; I don't believe Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, or Sir Paul McCartney ever moved to France, Switzerland, or St. Lucia to avoid paying eighty plus percent of their earnings to the Crown. That's just my belief. Though I agree with you.

As MANY people (including myself) consider Led Zeppelin to be the greatest band ever, it really spoke to HOW great Bonzo was, as once he died, so did the band. Bonzo was SO integral to what Led Zep was about, that it would have been impossible to replicate his drumming AND presence, so that was the end of the greatest band ever.

In "It Might Get Loud" Page talks about "the whisper before the thunder", and if one listens to most of Zep's live music, Jones & Bonham made 95% of the volume, with Page simply adding small bits of guitar perfection. 3:50, JP say's "there were four of us, all equally talented"...so you, I, and JP recognize Jones' talent. That's all that counts! ;)

I remember driving around Wales at the weekend in the late 70s with ZEP on full blast on the tape player. Wherever you went you could guarantee only other ZEP fans would recognize the music, as the BBC kept them off the airwaves, so the average person had no idea they were the biggest band in the world.

I've yet to hear anyone that can match John Bonham as far as rock drumming goes. If you build a band from the foundation (the drummer) up then Zeppelin always had a a head start on every other band because of Bonham.

I am a huge Zeppelin and Bonham fan and appreciate Bonham for his unique style of playing. I can think of quite a few drummers who can match or exceed Bonham as far as technical excellence is concerned (Neal Peart, for example). But style-wise no drummer should be compared to any other, because each is unique. Unfortunately death creates legends. Nobody fully appreciates talented people while they are still alive.

*MarkTaylor* ''I can think of quite a few drummers who can match or exceed Bonham ,'' Just as Ginger Baker is not only not better but not as good. Bonham IS the greatest Rock drummer EVER! It's like those idiots who call Hendrix or Page 'sloppy' while praising idiots like Steve Vai or Yngve Malmsteen, All 2nd raters without creativity! Give me John Densmore or Ringo (both underrated) who actually play songs not just show off technique

@@chetspoog5736 Good as Bonham's ' technical ability ' was , his playing had little to do with that . He had a personality in his playing . He could and did execute some crazy fills but they always served the song. I don't think anyone since has had the combination of skill and musical inventiveness . Every track he recorded is different and remarkable for it's drum sound or drumbeat.

I wonder if, had Bonham lived, he would have been more willing in later life to give interviews. It’s a well known fact that he detested music journalists because of the bad press they gave Zep in the early years, so he only did a few. It would be interesting to have heard all of the stories from his perspective and to hear his view on things.

Arguing about which band is best etc is ridiculous in the extreme....kinda like the colour red arguing it's better than blue or an apple being better than an orange....music is subjective and sometimes even depends what kinda mood you happen to be in......embrace it all and get the joy & pleasure out of whatever does it for you at the time. It's a real shame so many people miss out on some great music due to bias or peer pressure, a real shame.

He's just jealous dude. The stones could never touch Zeppelin. Zep where an underground band really and without releasing any singles or doing interviews etc. they were still bigger than all they're commercial rivals.. that must really hurt haha

Doubtless, it was jealousy which caused that statement. Zep was (and is) so excellent.

Jimmy. The coolest mate to ever sling a six string shooter over his shoulder and have the best drummer in Rock N' Roll history. Sad the party animal of a man who farmed and tuned engines and mortared brick had to pass away before his time. He lived with a lust for Rock N' Roll and freedom.

Page was very smart in that he put that awesome drummer front and center in the mix. He knew that Bonham was gonna propel the music with power and finesse and take the role of the drummer to an even higher level than his predecessors. With Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page showed the rest of the rock world how a great drummer should be presented on a recording. Another example of a great drummer who was given the proper prominence in a recording is Les Sampson on the Stray Dog album "While You're Down There".

Jimmy could have formed a band at that time where he was the feature, he was the star, everything revolves around him. He was a seasoned session musician and well-known with the Yardbirds. Instead, the unselfish nature of Jimmy and the idea to have a complete band of musicians to really move the music was his vision and choice. Thus was assembled the greatest band of all time.

His sense of timing was liquid natural. The best heavy blues, folk rock drummer ever. Super Funky or Thunky

Page's cool story about the respected session drummer asking to meet John Bonham when he was only 21 years old deserved a better response than ' which is exactly what you wanted ' ...🤨 She wasn't even listening
