You know what would be killer? If there was a top-down camera, high up, so we could look straight down on the entry and the throw and see the angles 🤔

Question: I'm very tall so I usually have to get awkwardly low to be able to get below my partner's hips. Is there a way to make uchi mata work without getting below the hips? Or should I look for other throws when faced with a big height difference?
@MagickArmory4 жыл бұрын
"The best way to do it is to use the hip"- J Pedro . I thought that once the hip became involved it is then considered a "hane goshi" (spelling may be wrong sorry) and no longer an uchi mata ? Idk they both look soooo similar and you guys all do them so crisp ,efficient, and clean so hard for me to tell lol either way looks awesome great video
@mmongiello7224 жыл бұрын
Hani is more like Hari goshi. The big diffrence is during uchimata your hip is underneath your opponent hips creating a fulcrum to throw your opponent. Hani is thrown by blasting your hips through your opponent the leg being inside for hani or on the outside for hari. It's also diffrent kasushi.
@pelejahosoba52804 жыл бұрын
What's the meaning of hane goshi,its one useless term or techniques, please stop comparing uchimata to hand goshi again and who does hane goshi anyways
@mmongiello7224 жыл бұрын
@@pelejahosoba5280 it can work at the right time. But you’re right, very different throws.
@maofas3 жыл бұрын
Uchimata can be done as more of a leg throw or hip throw. This, the hip version is similar to hane goshi on the entry and lift. That is how Inoue did it and he self-described his uchi mata as being like a hane.

Inoue made a video on this, his uchi also have a lot of hane goshi elements in it. Of course when you see the old school kata, they specifically say that you are not suppose to stick your hips in but reap the leg when it's about to step down.

Hi sensei! Thank you for posting this! I have a doubt about Uchi mata beeing ashi waza and, differently to koshi waza, does not use so extensively the hips like Harai goshi or Hane goshi. I'm not doubting the effectiveness of your technique in any way, just the criteria of what makes uchi mata a ashi waza. In the Kodokan example, he does with the support leg not in the middle of uke's legs but more to the side of the leg he will reap, so his reaping leg strike in the inner thigh. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4bThKhrf5KVndk
@mmongiello7224 жыл бұрын
This is uchimata and you are wrong.
@mmongiello7224 жыл бұрын
The leg strike is not what gives this throw its essence. In fact it's not a leg strike at all. This throw is done with the hips and upper body. The leg strike is the follow through from the pendulum momentum that makes this uchimata. As long as the pendulum is inside the opponents legs it uchimata by definition.
@beskeptic4 жыл бұрын
@@mmongiello722 Thank you kind sir! I think you misunderstood what I said. I did not say it was a leg strike. What I mean was that the tori's leg touchs uke's leg at the inner thigh, thus the name of the technique. "This throw is done with the hips and upper body. The leg strike is the follow through from the pendulum momentum that makes this uchimata. As long as the pendulum is inside the opponents legs it uchimata by definition." I dont disagree with that. Just asking, and you already clarify that I was wrong, if making so much use of the hips doesnt take it away from ashi waza into koshi waza. Look at 2:39 to see a nice Harai goshi! And watch the kodokan example to understand what I'm saying. Thank you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4bThKhrf5KVndk

@@mmongiello722 obviously that we agree on that. I never questioned his knowledge. I just asked a question about hip use cause in the Kodokan demonstration they did differently. Ps: I like koshi waza a lot too.
