We had a Mk2 Estate when I was a kid. Can’t be many of the Vans left either. Love the simplicity of this restomod. Nothing seems out of place when it’s done properly and this is definitely done properly. Loved the exhaust sound when it’s opened up.

I had a Mk 1with a 3ltr v 6 out of a Granada, full rally spec, didn't like to go round corners until we put a 3.5 rover in it, if I used the van dif it would out strip a porshe turbo up to 70, even swapped the mains on that Granada on the side of the road, where do they get "the bad old days" from

I am in love with that Van me.....!! I have had quite a few Mk 2 Vans back in the day, 1300 and 1600 Crossflows, and I converted at least 2 of them to 2.0 litre Pinto,s, l also converted quite a few 2 door Escorts MK 1 & 2 into 2.0 litre Pinto,s, brings so many good memories back this Van does, what happened to the olden days ay.....!!

Adam years ago the Forestry commission used to use mk2 escort vans that had LSD 4:1 fitted because of the rough conditions in forests so they didn’t get stuck. Just a bit of unless info for ya 😊

These were very popular in Australia with trade sub-contractors. I worked as a carpet steam cleaner and although I didn't have one, many other cleaners I knew did. They were hard to find as a used car. You've done an excellent job with the restoration mate.

The Van had its own unique dash. If the ends are just cut off it is not the correct dash. A van dash looked exactly like a MK2 dash but was about 1” shorter at each end. It tapered down into a point at the ends like a standard Mk2 dash. You would not know you even had a van dash unless it was left beside a Mk2 dash. I do a lot of dash flocking here in Ireland & I get a short/van dash every now & then. They are a welcome find among the rally guys as the short dash can be fitted in & out past a roll cage where a standard dash wont.

Great job mate. Im just doing a mk 7 minibus into a camper. Ive just finished everything under the chasis, struts, brakes, calipers shocks, disks, bearings, ball joints, track rods , drop links, all if it engine was low milage and sweet sobi just changed oil and filters. Drained the water ststem and flushed it. Inside is nearly done. Then im going to give it Rolls Royce metallic respray .

45 was 4 1/2 cwt (hundred weight which was 112 pounds) so 4.5 hundred weight was 504lbs load weight or just under 230 kg. Those rear quarter bumpers were indeed originally used on the MK1 vans in chrome finish and then appeared on the front of the Mk1 Escort Twin Cam, a trend then followed by all the boy racers of the seventies ans early eighties. Beautiful period looking van now with the soundtrack and power it deserves. Owner is a bit understated about the work thats gone into it. I did know that the mk2 van could be fitted with Mk1 2 door wings bonnet and front valence, however did not realise that the essentially mk1 shell of the mk2 had a shortened mk2 dash fitted, i'm pretty sure this goe for the mk1 and mk2 estates too!

Awesome van! A good quality linkage will keep the carbs balanced. Adjust mine every couple of years, you can use low strength loctite on the linkage to help keep them from vibrating out of adjustment.

I owned 2 of these back in the 80s, the first was a 1973 mk1 around 83/84 then around 87 I bought another one, a 1978 mk2. I bought the mk2 from a mate who had stuck a 2 litre motor in it from a mk3 cortina. He was a mechanic and he didn't cut any corners but it didn't look anywhere near as good as this one, it did however go like hell though, maybe because they were very light? I embarrassed a lot of XR3s and golf GTis!

I have an 06 focus ST. I have always wanted to put an ST engine in something else. Being a bit of a lump myself I’d rather have wide comfy seats. I struggle with the recaro seats like sitting in a wheel barrow.

that is a nice van, i would put the original standard plates on, but it isn't mine... did my first [accidental] wheelspin in a red 1980 escort van, whilst on L plates, gaffer was watching at the time, not amused, but 155 x 12 tyres at 40psi didn't have any grip in the wet... the 35s could carry 350kg, the 45s 450kg, 47bhp, 75mph flat out... [on drum brakes!!]
