I agree but let's face it, its a niche market making these brand new retro ice cars that will be short lived and when "everyone" else is converting classics to EV,s as to make them more reliable and economic to actually daily drive with plenty of power to boot, its suicidal business sense imho. Personally from that era, i can afford to buy such thing but cant afford to run it or have the time to look after it servicing wise. Each to their own though.

A 1300E two door that was near immaculate for £900 and another two door 1300XL which wasn’t that bad for £400. These new ones are of course toys for old rich boys and if I had enough money I’d have one with a full near stock interior no roll cage, sound deadening and some other stuff to make it more civilised so that it could be enjoyed regularly. I hate the modern bonnet latches as well but appreciate that MK1(Escorts) are being made in 2021. Nostalgia!

And most of those new cars are flavourless or lose value once they go old. + my goverment is pushing for more electricial cars but most people cant afford it and the ones who can afford it start getting annoyed with charging times or battery issues down the line. or they get less and less range out of the car. + once the goverment cheap taxation laws change about electric cars i bet a major group is gone drop em off as unwanted. + they are banning diesels from a serten build year in different citys so thats also very enjoyebale for oldtimer owners. but yeah a body shell of this escort looks like a lot of fun but i dont think i can afford it in any sense this is surely high paid labour with a lot of passion. @@KnexJunkie it is indeed nice to see re-imagined classic cars either like this or even as EV conversions. Another business in Wales specialise in that. All of these things are very labour intensive and bespoke hence costly. It’ll be interesting to see in 20 or 30 years (if I’m still here!) what 2020 cars particularly EVs are considered ‘classic’ and what aftermarket industries & small businesses have grown up to enable poor people to be able to continue to own run & modify them? Will there be dodgy car dealers selling the Fiat 500E with hacked software and cheap Chinese aftermarket battery packs fitted. Will the technology have improved so much that there will be electric resto mods like a 2020 Porsche Taycan with 2040 motors and battery pack with a 900 mile range that fast charges in 10 minutes and does 0 - 60 in 1.5 secs? I love how we see your excitement in the intro-talk. I am not into Escorts, but what MST is doing is really exiting. It sounds like you get a fantastic driving experience that is period appropriate. Which, to me is much more exciting than a modern fast car. My personal sweet spot is more towards the MR2 / Z1 era of cars. But you know, fuck it, I could live with one of these ;)

Fond memories of my late fathers 1968 1.3 MK1 Escort with Mexico trim. He had it from new and yes it was "borrowed" a few times but always got it back. A drivers car.

Only just discovered this channel and I'm working my way through the videos. Surely Johnny's one of the most humble, genuine, enthusiastic, informed motoring journalists out there. Always loved him on 5 Gear now this is the more intimate personal viewpoint. Great review. 😎

Great production Jonny! Well done to your team, please keep them coming, it's what keeps us normal guys dreaming 🙏🏼 Never had the pleasure of a Mk1 or Mk2 but these MST beauties are awesome. Hard want!

Two things that tell you that the work done by MST is supreme, 1. Jonny on his knees licking the tyres. 2. Jonny stopped talking when he was driving. Well done MST for the vision.

Thoroughly enjoyed that video, thanks Jonny. Credit to your crew though, every single one of those tracking shots was a cover shot, every single one. As much an endorsement of North Wales as it was of the MST. I know where I'm going if my numbers come up.

Many thanks Alan. Videographer Phil Vaughn Pritchard lives locally to the area and did it proud. If you get a chance to drive or ride these roads, do it.

Well done to the LBS for a 'must watch' piece of motoring journalism. Great setting (flying past Tryfan, best mountain in Wales), lovely Welsh weather and superb interpretation of a total classic. Very evocative.

Oh Johnny, I am 63, escorts were my bread and butter starting off with 1100ohv which would still tail slide on roundabouts and its that behaviour that was that addictive rwd era. Alas i was young, insurance was mountainous. always put sports steering wheel on, change the carbs and air filter. Then had 1300…. Wow more power😂😂😂😂. Eventually peaked at 1600 mexico, ridiculously pwerless bhp wise to todays cars but humungous fun. They would take hours of abuse, beautiful gearboxes and never surpassed in looks imo. What happened to Ford? Thanks for those heady days of sliding sideways everywhere. Must be heaven to drive these. I cant believe the Rs2000s the police had in Liverpool city centre were a mere 109bhp but by christ they felt the fastest thing on the road. Thanks for this insight had me welling up. Smashed all mine up usually going sideways without lsd. Later when i became interested in ladies I had a 3.0 capri ghia auto, sunroof, what a beautiful car. What an engine

Utterly utterly beautiful vid, your very best yet. Have followed the build from the start, including meeting you at start of filming, of this magnificent car. Am very biased, obviously, but you have done great justice to Carwyn , his team and the car. Dear Wife says “BDG” means Bloody Damn Good! She’s right again! Diolch o galon!

This is my new favourite late brake show video! I've been meaning to drive some of those breathtaking north Wales roads for years and this has really inspired me. I could never afford one of these new "Mk1s" so my old rusty, unreliable and waaaaay cheaper (but nowhere near as good) real one will have to do ;-)

Great work, Jonny. Seems miraculous that a small enterprise can produce such wonders, but I reckon you've made a big difference to their prospects. And the fabulous photography in your vids can only help. Putting TG and GT to shame :)

Boy, does this take me back, I’m from Wales, living in Texas. Father had a Mexico, mother had a 1300 sport, climbing in the back for school runs because, it’s Wales, and pissing down with rain! Beautiful cars and beautifully filmed, I’m now homesick.

Ah, this makes me think of what might have been... Many moons ago I nearly bought a not dissimilar Mk1 Escort : Same body, but metallic gold with Mexico-like decals. Minilight's. BDG, custom stainless exhaust, 'Bullet' box, five link Atlas, properly set up suspension and upgraded brakes, beautiful inside and out - full interior, not a stripped out tin box... ...at the time the owner wanted 2.5K for it and I thought it was too expensive! *sigh* How times have changed. I ended up buying a Mk1 GTI that was an ex-Slick50 racing car with it's factory interior put back in, for 1.5K - it was an absolute hoot to drive. Ah, the days when you could by an awesome car for bugger-all. Such a same I didn't buy that Mk1 Escort. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, videos like this make me wonder what happened to it.

Even though i have always loved old fords , especially the MK1,s and 2s escorts , you just can't not immerse yourself enough in Johnny's style of presenting. It's a skill very very few presenters have and knows what his audience wants to hear and be made aware of when introducing another vehicle. Let's hope businesses like MST continue to be successful for many years to come and Johnny continues to impress us all.
@danielwooster50632 жыл бұрын
I'm unsure what I'm more impressed by - the 'MK1' being the subject of this episode (which is awesome btw!) - or the quality of the production - I particularly love the aerial (drone?) footage tracking the car along the Welsh mountain roads...... combined with Jonny's relaxed presenting style, its just a pleasure to view - best motoring channel on You Tube!!
