I did too, I was born in Scotland when my father was stationed there. My folks picked this record out before they were transferred. My Great-Grandfather Shand was from Aberdeen.

Can anyone remember a tune played by Jimmy Shand Snr where the participants danced a jig that involved "broomsticks" ? this jig involved pairs (normally husband and wife) swinging their legs over the each end of the broomstick ? I know this sounds rather odd but I can assure you in the 1950's this was so much fun. If anyone can help this would be great.

Hi Frank. The family knew Jimmy quite well during the 1960's and '70's I think that this LP compered by Archie McCullough was released in the early 1960's. I played 2nd accordeon (and hawaiian steel guitar... but not at the same time !!!) with my cousin Dave Smith in the East Neuk Scottish Country Dance Band..I think there is still some archive footage in BBC Scotland of our broadcasts. Jimmy was a guest at Dave's wedding many moons ago !

derekafarmer I would think this LP was released pre 1959, as I've found a Peter Sellers LP with a catalog number PMD 1069 released in February 1959!! It is as good a guess for this LP!!

1950, according to the Jimmy Shand website. I wonder if it's been issued on CD in full.

On his 10" LP's there are no statements of the year of recording, must have been early 50s The latest Stereo Parlophones(12") have this indication,as have the later SZLP items.
