i had a chance to meet jimmy and talk with him...I saw him at this jazz spot in ny called the metropolis....after his set, he took me up to his organ and showed me a few chords. i was able to play the first few chords but the last chord he played made me laugh so hard..sounded bananas!!! he smiled..called me his nephew and introduced me to the bartender...I remember waiting with him after everyone left. He was waiting for his limo...i'll never forget that..we just talked for a little bit. I also had a chance to meet his wife Lola. Nice people.

Truly the best Hammond organist/musician of all times, we miss you Mr. Jimmy Smith.

This was a true treat. I knew Jimmy Smith from 1992 up until his death. He sold me one of his many personal Hammond B3's in march 1993. What a pleasure it was to have known him and his wife. I also owe great thanks to Sacramento Hammond organist, the late Johnny Heartsman who introduced me to Jimmy at a Little jazz club called "Little Foxes" R.I.P. to both Jimmy and Johnny. and thank you for all you've taught me.
