I lost my eldest son and grandson. I then lost my dad. Recently I lost my husband. I feel so sad and alone. Then I came upon this song. Brought back so many memories of my younger days and how I felt when I first heard it all those years ago. It still brings tears to my eyes. Life can be an absolute bummer sometimes. I'm so happy to see Jimmy still singing and going strong. What an amazing voice and what an incredible life he has lead. I knew I had to run away, but back then in the 1980’s things were so different & I didn’t know of any resources or places to help (especially if you were Black like me). I identified with the song and original video so much - of being assaulted and then blamed for it, of being given a few quid instead of a hug. It’s almost 30 years since I finally ran away & I’m out as bi and nonbinary now, but this song will always resonate with my life. Thank you, Jimmy for this tune.

During that time he gave gave the entire world peace and stability (he ended the Cold War) and he gave the entire world wealth and prosperity. THATS WHAT MADE THE 80s SO GOOD. After decades of being frighted of Russia, Ronnie got them on the back foot and they collapsed. After a miserable 70s of recession and misery he brought economic hope to us. Suddenly we had money. Besides; Don't forget in the '80's we had Reagan and Thatcher (and Lord knows who else...) who seemed to be Hell bend to blow up the planet in the name of "assured nuclear destruction". Perhaps one needs to listen to XTC's "This World Over" and Frank Zappa's "I Don't Wanna Get Drafted!" (Recall how Ronny promised us that he'd eliminate the draft but reneged on that!) to balance their views of the early '80's (Just a thought...). Sadly, It's my opinion (and we're still intitled to have opinions in America, correct?) that to have to endure a second term of Donald Trump would * be like having to endure a fourth term of Ronald Reagan * in many ways. Now excuse me, I need to go vote Democratic before I hunker down in my bomb shelter. I hear the Russians, North Koreans and Chinese have some pretty effective bombs now a days. "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Except those "things" get presented to you in a different wrapper! LOL!

Oh my goodness...so glad I just found this. I loved the song when it came out and watching Jimmy dance with his whole body and soul along with it. Powerful song. Jimmy's matured voice with the clear high sweetness and that slight rasp is even better than when he sang it in 1984.

Przeglądając KZbin przypomniałam sobie tę piosenkę, miałam 20 lat jak była jej premiera. Wtedy mieszkałam w Polsce a teraz w Niemczech. To wykonanie z Berlina jest świetne, jak wtedy w 84 roku. Pozdrawiam wszystkich po 50-ce, tych przed też.

This song still gives me goosebumps, the song was when I was at my lowest, my father imprisoned I had a fight with my mother and she kicked me out of the house, I was 17 and became a man when I should’ve just been in a loving family.
