I am 54 years old... I can only say... I had the honor and privilege of listening and growing up with the music of the 80s. That time, that music is unrepeatable.

I'm 53. I didn't listen to this song when I was young, but holy cow, I had no idea what I was missing! I've been listening to it for two years now. There is nothing better. And, the video for this song, in my opinion, is the very best video that has ever been made.

No flashing luxury cars, no vulgarity, no flashing money and rubbing them onto your face, a simple message relatable to everyone of us. Thanks Jimmy I always fly very far when I listen to your song. Love from Italy.

I lost my eldest son and grandson. I then lost my dad. Recently I lost my husband. I feel so sad and alone. Then I came upon this song. Brought back so many memories of my younger days and how I felt when I first heard it all those years ago. It still brings tears to my eyes. Life can be an absolute bummer sometimes. I'm so happy to see Jimmy still singing and going strong. What an amazing voice and what an incredible life he has lead. Small-town Boy gives me the strength I need to carry on when I think all hope is gone. I can listen to it over and over again.....love this man ❤❤❤❤❤

Wow. Eugene Oregon 1984. We could not get your music there, we had to travel to Portland - two hours drive to find a store where you could buy "Smalltown Boy". I was just 14, not a prayer I could do it. But someone at my school did, and from then on we heard it every school dance and we made the DJ play it over and over again. Your music is a part of my DNA and epigenetic memory forever. You made a beautiful creation I've heard in my mind for decades since. Sincerely, Thank you! You created one of the brightest and most beautiful pieces of music I've been blessed to experience. Yet so true to the profound sadness and opportunities presented by life... man, you make me proud to be a human being. Thank you for that! All the best to you and your family!

I was around 14 or 15 when this came out. I wasn’t out to myself or anyone, but I was bullied nonstop at school and abused at home. I knew I had to run away, but back then in the 1980’s things were so different & I didn’t know of any resources or places to help (especially if you were Black like me). I identified with the song and original video so much - of being assaulted and then blamed for it, of being given a few quid instead of a hug. It’s almost 30 years since I finally ran away & I’m out as bi and nonbinary now, but this song will always resonate with my life. Thank you, Jimmy for this tune.

Stay positive! No, it might not be the same as it was - but I think if Trump * is not elected * and we can rid ourselves of all this MAGA BS, ( at here in the US...) I think the world will feel the same hope as when Obama was first elected. Tell all your Yankee friends to vote Blue! " We don't need this fascist groove thing!" 💌💙

@@stevejarred6484 why did you need to bring politics into this mate? Are the democrats so desperate? FWIW, since you clearly were not even alive in the 1980s, Ronald Ragan was your President for the ENTIRE 80s. During that time he gave gave the entire world peace and stability (he ended the Cold War) and he gave the entire world wealth and prosperity. THATS WHAT MADE THE 80s SO GOOD. After decades of being frighted of Russia, Ronnie got them on the back foot and they collapsed. After a miserable 70s of recession and misery he brought economic hope to us. Suddenly we had money. Mate do not post about times you didn’t live through. It’s like cultural appropriation. Stick to Gen Whatever.

Besides; Don't forget in the '80's we had Reagan and Thatcher (and Lord knows who else...) who seemed to be Hell bend to blow up the planet in the name of "assured nuclear destruction". Perhaps one needs to listen to XTC's "This World Over" and Frank Zappa's "I Don't Wanna Get Drafted!" (Recall how Ronny promised us that he'd eliminate the draft but reneged on that!) to balance their views of the early '80's (Just a thought...). Sadly, It's my opinion (and we're still intitled to have opinions in America, correct?) that to have to endure a second term of Donald Trump would * be like having to endure a fourth term of Ronald Reagan * in many ways. Now excuse me, I need to go vote Democratic before I hunker down in my bomb shelter. I hear the Russians, North Koreans and Chinese have some pretty effective bombs now a days. "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Except those "things" get presented to you in a different wrapper! LOL!
