Hi Lex! Around early 2000, Jimmy opened a karaoke nightclub. One night, the person who shot him happened to be there and walked up to him to shake his hand. Jimmy didn’t recognize him, so he identified himself as the person who shot him and he recently came out from prison and wanted to apologize to Jimmy. They both agreed the past quarrels were over nonsense and both hugged and squashed the beef. The guy had drinks with his friends and left. Jimmy never saw him again. Jimmy can tell his story more accurately in Cantonese. He wasn’t able to fully express himself in English. For example: Every Chinese know there are two birthdays. ( Gow Lic and Sun Lic ) ( How we pronounce it in Cantonese) If his birthday was November 1, he’ll tell everyone if they remember Halloween, they’ll remember his birthday. The day after Halloween.

Early millennial here, from NYC. Chinatown from Varick Street to Bowery is no longer Chinese. There are a few merchants and shops but that's it. East Boardway and parts close to Civic District are still Chinese. This is probably what he was talking about.
