Steve davis and stephen hendry are potting machines they played to win. When you watch alex higgins and jimmy white play snooker they entertain crowds. My point is if you play decent safety shots during a tight match you will eventually score heavily then clear the table.

Right on. There are different ways of winning. One of them is making a zillion people happy. I could be wrong but it seems to me Jimmy made more people happy by his playing than Davis or Hendry. I sure wish he’d won at the Crucible though.

We all play a role in life, Jimmys role was to be Jimmy, had he won the WSC he wouldn't be Jimmy, he'd just be another engraved name on a trophy, coming so close so many times and coming back for more has engraved his name in the hearts of men, that's a prize few win

He was the greatest player I ever saw, exciting player just magic, played to the crowd, perhaps his downfall for not winning the world championship

God bless Mr White. What a guy, and what a career. I was always rooting for Jimmy, and I always will be. He had that 'special' about him, and that is why his following was always 'large', no matter who he played. A nice video, and a nice family to be proud of also. Good on ya Jims!

I love the link from Alex Higgins with Jimmy then Jimmy with Ronnie. It's a gravitas amongst rouges! They knew/know they are the real deal in terms of exciting crowd pleasing snooker that has made the game so popular but nothing is put on. Even Steve Davis was coached to an extent to have his calm unflappable demeanor. I take nothing away from him or Mr Hendry for their approach. Every sport needs mavericks. It just checks things up. Today in snooker we only have Ronnie left to do this which is why we want him to keep going! Jimmy will always be my favourite player with Ronnie a close 2nd.
@derekcook76676 жыл бұрын
I was fortunate enough to watch an exhibition in 1984 Alex and Jimmy.What a show they put on,each trying to out do the other with an array of the most outrageous shots you will likely ever see and all done with great humour, mutual respect and affection.Gods of the green baize.

This documentary could have been a lot better had ITV invested in buying more footage from the BBC - a lot of what they did use was 30 years old which was good but it was too indebted to it. They'd didn't show his crucible 147 - one of his career's defining moments, either. Also it was too reliant on O'Sullivan & his Jimmy's daughter but again this was prob due to their budget. Jimmy is loved around the world and so a varied list of commentators, players past & present as well as fans would have added more depth of feeling & context.

My hero and role model as a kid, but there was always something which prevented him from lifting the big one. Nothing to do with who he was facing, it was his own personal demons. 99% of snooker players back in the day drank to excess, it was the life, but some "Dabbled" and some were serious drug addicts. Drug testing then was not like it is now or there would have been some serious bans. Does not take away the fact that Jimmy is a living legend to me and a genuine, honest and thoroughly decent guy.

First time I’ve seen this. Fantastic and honest insight into one of the greatest players to hold a cue. One tournament does not define a players career because above and beyond that he’s lived life on his terms and just like Higgins (both), Ronnie, Hendry etc - he’s made people want to play the game.

Fantastic that. Can’t believe I haven’t seen it till now. What a hero! Adored watching Jimmy and Alex back in the day... two mavericks amid the oft-boring norm. For the kids reading this, although the standard now is very high, snooker back in the '80s was very big. The whole family would crowd around the screen watching every pot... no smartphones/cell phones to distract people. The emotion from his old man and, yep, daughters are stunners (must be the ex’s side lol). Know it’s a few years old now, but does look better with weight on his cheeks. As Ronnie says, still believes he can win the worlds; he’ll retire when he thinks he no longer can. Love to have a real mate like Jimmy. Imagine being Ronnie/Ronnie Wood and all that mutual respect and camaraderie between the three of them? Star status aside, most of us can only dream about having good, loyal friends like that. All the best, JW!

I loved sport when we had rebels, mavericks, entertainers, souls before you. Reading about the early days of American wrestling is similar to early snooker. Both were wild and not respected then became HUGE. Jimmy is a true blue genius. My brother loves him too.

I remember going to snooker 🎱 halls when I was around 13 or so. Couple of pubs had snooker rooms in them. As Jimmy said, it's was full of characters & always had an air of threat. Where I still live brighton there were 3 or so snooker halls, all gone now. My brother went to Manchester uni & used to see alex Higgins asking people to buy him a drink in exchange for a game of pool or an autograph. Really sad end to an amazing player.
