To clarify slightly on Formula Student: it is definitely an engineering competition first, a racing competition second. The drivers are engineering students who helped build the car. Usually no more or less skill than your average driver.

Even F1 in general, i have been watching F1 for past 3 years only and started loving the scene and races, and I was always surprised how young and otherwise "immature" some drivers are compared to times of Schumacher and Niki lauda etc, I would think they need way more years of experience under their belt to be the best in the world. You are more right than some people think to say that it is a battle of the manufacturer and engineers and secrets they do in pits and before the race, thats why its a team win as shared effort, the driver is skilled and talented but if we compare raw talent i am sure there are more talented drivers in the world

If the McMurty had a Renault R25 engine in it with hybrid, it would easliy destroy the F1 car. The problem is that it is a battery car, which is okay for tracks with short straights but they normally always lose steam at 270, which at a proper track like the Nordschliefe, Le Mans or Spa would cost it seconds in lap time. Hybrids are the fastest form of powertrains, since you get the mega torque figures and inital power of batteries and the top end speed of an engine.

Quick question, do FS events in the states have more top speed segments on their tracks? Since in the european competitions you never go over a hundered or so km/h because the race tracks just don't allow that, so most teams don't even build their cars to achieve a high top speed.

To be honest, either the F1 2022 is slower than in real life or the 919 EVO is overboosted in the mod as all F1 car since 2018 are already faster than the 919 EVO on spa and the 919 gets its time on the straights, not on corners...... Tiu, referring to your point with the straights etc.: it‘s of course a setup thing and the 919 has a massive advantage at Tsukuba accelerating out of all the slow corners with it‘s all wheel drive. At slow speeds the F1 car can‘t put all the power down in the first moment with rwd and only little downforce not properly pushing the wheels into the tarmac at first.

@edwardking9359 Wow, old posts but whatever. The 919 is 440 lb lighter (1958lb vs 2400lb) and substantially more powerful (720ps engine + 440ps electric vs 690ps). VW would have to be grossly over reporting the weight for it to have better cornering speeds on a track. The only time the IDR would be faster than the 919evo is if awd mattered, like in a hill climb. Weight is the enemy of speed and awd adds weight. The 919 should be able to accelerate, brake, and turn faster based on the power and weight. AWD is less relevant at track speeds where there are no switchbacks.
@edwardking9359
@edwardking9359 Жыл бұрын
@patrickfoley6590 The 919 evo is AWD itself, with the ICE powering the rear wheels and the electric motors powering the front. And weight is FAR from the only thing that matters. You saw how the 919 evo was able to beat an F1 car, and the F1 car is around a hundred or so kg lighter with similar power, and is RWD only. The ID.R has substantially less power and is heavier, but it also has the benefits of being fully electric rather than hybrid, which might be enough to make up time on a tight track like Tsukuba, especially if it can get better traction out of corners. I don't think it'd definitely be faster, but it's very much worth a shot.

I wonder how fast the McMurtry would go & also the Red Bull X cars ? Equally, what would be fastest on other circuits ? Nordschleife ? Spa ? Silverstone ? Monza ? Monaco ? etc. After all, a car that's fast around Tsukuba doesn't get to use all it's got on the straights & likewise a car that's fast through corners would probably be faster in Monaco but not so good at Spa or Monza. Then too a car that is very stiff would suffer around the Nordschleife ...... So what would be the PERFECT circuit ? (I know it doesn't exist in real life) & then what would be the best car ?

Theres also the very major point in that F1 cars could be way, WAY faster but they have severe restrictions on engine power, tyres, braking, suspension, aerodynamics etc to slow them down! Without these restrictions then times would be CONSIDERABLY faster than they are!

Great video Jimmer! You should’ve tried the VW I.D. R. Might’ve beaten the F1 also.

I think we forget what a feat of human strength an F1 car demands. I watch F1 cause it's the biggest melding of man and machinery we have that we can see every single weekend. And I'm still narcissistic enough to believe I could drive one for a lap.

An F1 car can really be beaten in almost any category with the right equipment. Top speed? Bugatti Veyron. Acceleration? Ferrari LaFerrari Power to Weight? Koenigsegg One:1. Fuel Efficiency? Hummer H2. (Yes, _that_ Hummer.) G-Forces? Kenny Bräck. Hotel? Trivago.

Laughed when you mentioned the TVR Speed 12 in GT2, I remember as a clueless 12 year old tuning that thing for maximum power and not paying any attention to niceties like gear ratios so the RPM needle would hit the redline faster than you could blink and you'd wheelspin up to about 300km/h.

The real question isn't if a FS car can beat a F1 car, but if a F1 can do a Skidpad run.

10:01 I have made a Citroen 2cv with that engine in Assetto Corsa. It's insane. With my very mediocre driving skills I got it to do a 50.6 second lap in Mugello. Quite unstable at anything below 200kph though which makes me struggle to take it around circuits with tight corners. Edit: Forgot to say I've made the engine have 1882 horses.

There's another way to go at it. If you bring an F1 at that track at Crandon, Wisconsin... I'm pretty sure a lot of cars can beat an F1 on there.
