In retrospect, an entertaining film. This was in the same kind of comedic vibe as The Beatle's "Help" movie. Elvis really wanted to do this film until he read the script. Like the majority of his films, they all had potential and if had been given focus, could have been great. It's hard to get quality when you release 3 movies a year. Elvis does give a good performance in the film and some really good songs and vibe otherwise, though given a tv movie treatment. He deserved so much better and he knew it. Still, this and others are awesome to watch nonetheless.

Al Mauro, Mary Ann Mobley once discussed that in an interview. She said they started with a good script that was different from the scripts for the other Elvis movies. When it got close to filming it the Colonel got nervous about Elvis making a movie which was so different from his other ones. He had them change the script so that it was like his other movies. She said that they ended up with a movie that was really bad.

Well, for starters, Elvis was being paid $1 million per movie; a large sum of money for that time. On the surface, this seemed to have been a good deal; lots of money, for minimal work. However, doing formulaic nonsense such as this, hurt Elvis creatively; he simply wasn't doing the music that he should've been doing. Had his manager not insisted on Elvis doing the same nonsense, he really could've been a relatively decent actor.
