Elvis sings this song with a musical group The Mellowmen. The deep, bass voice heard vocalizing is Thurl Ravenscroft, and the original voice of Tony the Tiger, the singer behind “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Ginch.” He was also the voice of Kirby the vacuum in “The Brave Little Toaster” and did a bunch of other voices for Disney. You can see him in the far right in shots of Elvis and the Bible group on stage.

Imagine; the only Grammy Elvis ever won was for his album of Gospel songs. I'm sure he's making God smile at this very moment.
@MrAlanfalk738 жыл бұрын
Yes that was a big mistake! But we also have to remember that the Grammy award first was introduced in 1958 after some of his most creative years. He still got 3 Grammys; 1 for the 67 album How great thou art, 1 for the 71 album He Touched Me and 1 for the live performance in 74 of the song How great thou art. But in 70 he also got a liftime achivement Grammy award at the young age at 36 , that was amazing in itself.
@LeonAllanDavis8 жыл бұрын
Alan Falk Thanks for that. Good information I didn't know. Something I was surprised to discover is that Elvis didn't make it overnight. It took a couple years of life on the road. I'd always thought he was an instant hit.
@MrAlanfalk738 жыл бұрын
+Leon Davis Yes it took a little while, but from what I have read he was a big hit in the south pretty fast, however he needed a bigger record label to break through in the whole contry. That is why , when he went from SUN records to RCA he had an instant nr 1 hit (Heartbreak Hotel ) with the very first single he released there.
@LeonAllanDavis8 жыл бұрын
Alan Falk I learned that from an interview given by the drummer...forgot his name...not really up on it that much. But when Elvis started out, he didn't have a drummer...just the upright base. As I recall, they traveled all over. Up into New York and into the midwest. The breakthrough moment was during the first Sun session when Elvis cut loose with "That's Alright Mama" while he was fooling around during a break. The Colonel, like they say in the South "jumped on that like a chicken on a June bug".
@MrAlanfalk738 жыл бұрын
+Leon Davis "Jumped on that like a chicken on a June bug" LOL I have never heard that expression before. The drummer was D.J.Fontana, he often said that when he was drumming for Elvis he immagined he was drumming for a stripper, meaning he had to underline Elvis' moves White his drumming. By the way, if you are interested, ,then there are quite a few really great documentaries about Elvis' carreer on KZbin. Just write "Elvis documentary " and then you will get around 20 different to chose among. I really like the one called "I sound like nobody" .

@@erinmarie99 No, not at all. I simply don't put Elvis Presley on an unrealistic pedestal with rose colored lenses, while being able to appreciate his talent with a much more BALANCED view. He was good but in reality there were far too many other ARTISTS who actually wrote, sung, composed and contributed to producing their own music who had VERY exceptional voices. Presley was a good singer but I've heard better and I will just leave it there. We can agree to disagree. Stay safe 🙏.
