Work of art. Beautiful. Was that epoxy resin you used on the top? Is that more durable than polyurethane finishes?
@tomalcolm9 жыл бұрын
Looked like two part epoxy to me. Same question.
@mckenziekeith74349 жыл бұрын
+SyberPrepper It was definitely West System epoxy. They make a great product but it is expensive. Personally I have not had good luck using it as a finish. It builds like crazy (you can pour it on if the surface is horizontal) and self-levels, but it goes cloudy and turns yellow. If you let it cure, you can wet sand it and then cover it with one layer of varnish, and that seems to help protect it from yellowing. I think the varnish has UV inhibitors.

Can you please tell me, have you checked how maple wood works with walnut in terms of thermal expansion coefficients? What is the risk that these types of wood are not friendly with each other, resulting in cracking, swelling, or splitting? Also, what if I wanted to make the board wood-block end grain to top to make the wood structure more fancy - would gluing them be any different? Thank you.

I made a board years ago but i used a piece of half inch ply as a substrate to glue on my squares... It warped like crazy as the solid wood squares expanded and contracted but the ply didnt. I couldnt help but notice that when you glued down your squares the grain was going accross grain of the substraite... i have to wonder if you had a warpage problem in your top? ... Great job by the way!!!
