Hearing an english accent from someone who is asian is rare. I think thats where his line of questioning was coming from. Also from what I know about the asian culture, acting is not high up on the respected job list. Asian parents expect a lot out of their kids and prefer them to get jobs in law or medicine.

Wouldn’t any parent be a little disappointed that a daughter with a law degree (great career prospects) turns to acting (rather bad career prospects)? I mean, any parent wants their child to be successful. I don‘t find that particular question that strange, I didn’t get the sense that he was specifically referring to her asian background. However, it might just be that I‘m not sensitive enough towards the issue. And I agree regarding the first question (are you all from London) that one was really strange.

Marina Müller the question itself doesn’t refer to her asian background but you can tell that there is underlying Asian stereotyping through Jimmy’s line of questioning. He starts with essentially asking the question “where are you REALLY from” which is commonly asked to asians growing up in many western countries. Moving onto the topic about “getting a law degree and disappointing your parents” could possibly work in an interview/comedy, but with all the Asian stereotypes Jimmy pokes at during this interview, it rubs off the wrong way
