In the u.s. we have those bread bento box and tea from hmart for around $7.99 (bento bulgogi kimchi white rice) + $1.50 corn tea + $1.50 boricha + $4 bread so about $15-16 roughly 2x. Our hourly wage depending on the state you are in is $8/hr-15/hr. The kbbq will run you about $49.99/per person no alcohol and they usually want 2 person before serving you. The naengmyun will be $15-16 plus tips. I live in a state with the top 3 Korean American population so the food are abundant full like we have 4 different daegee gukbap within 3 mile radius. The cheapest place to eat here are normally the dollar menu from McDonald.

Before going to Jakarta, I think it's wise to communicate first with: KOREA REOMIT, A MASSIVE-MILLION-SUBSCRIBER KZbinR, a native South Korean but grew up in Malang, East Java. He's extremely fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese (Bahasa Jawa, one of traditional languange spoken in Java Island), which makes him extremely famous here in Indonesia. So your trip to Jakarta or Indonesia in general could be optimized and benefits your channel growth. Don't forget that it's easy for foreigner to earn fanatic Indonesian viewers by exploiting our nationalism. 😅

$86 is quite a lot to spend in a day. For reference today, was typical day for me working from home. I’ll often not have breakfast and often skip lunch too. Wake up at 8.30 Actually get up at 9 Make a coffee (bag of beans £8/250g bag, think get 14 espressos from a bag) Milk (£1/5 coffee servings, so £0.20) Skipped breakfast and lunch. Had couple chocolates (maybe £1 at a push) Dinner made chicken sausages and instant mash with gravy (approx £7 for 2 people) So today I spent around £5.37 today.

As an American who is strongly carnivore, I would love to see what you actually eat if you don't eat all the Korean carbs. Luckily, I think the expense would put me off a lot of the pastries; that cream bun is more expensive than those you can get here at the little standalone bakeries in Hmart. Which is good, because those things are amazing and I could plow through some Korean pastries.

Seoul is affordable compared to Singapore. Compared to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or even Hong Kong I prefer to go out and eat cheap in Seoul. Korean lunch boxes are the best. The cheapest 7-11 type lunch boxes were in Bangkok. In Bangkok the typical microwave lunch is in between $1 to $3. Looking forward to my next trip to Incheon in Dec. Great video Jimmy.

Jimmy, as a Korean-American born and raised in NY that has been to several countries throughout East and Southeast Asia, I just want to provide you with some context as to why KZbinrs and Tiktokers "hype up" meals that Korean convenience marts sell. Generally speaking, meals sold at CU or GS25 (or anything in S. Korea) are sold at a *fraction* of the price of how much it would be sold for in the U.S. Not only are the prices vastly different, most of our convenience markets don't even sell the same type of meals over here. The closest thing to a similar meal would be kimbap or pajeon, but this would only really be found at an H-mart, Hanyang mart, Assi plaza, or another East Asian market over here. And it costs roughly $8-12 USD for about 6-8 pieces. Even cup ramen is more expensive here ($1.75-3 USD per cup). Portion-wise, you're also being sold considerably more food over there, compared to to-go (or "grab-n-go") meals sold at convenience marts over here for how much you pay. The Cheonggukjang and suyuk you ordered at the restaurant costing $8.87 is ridiculously cheap. Ordering just the Cheonggukjang alone in NY or California would cost a minimum of $15-20. It's also served in lesser portions over here compared to how much you're given over there (Just talking about Korean restaurant servings, not fast food places like Burger King, McDonalds, etc). Nevermind the tipping culture in the US. I hope this clears things up in terms of why non-native Koreans are astonished at how "different" things are over there :)
@CosmicTerrorize Жыл бұрын
To add to this comment, this is all before we even address the vast difference in quality of food. Ive had the chance to try some convenience food in Korea, and while the quality may not match most restaurants, it is still 1000% better then the quality of food prepare in the U.S. convenience stores. Additionally, the food we typically have available is limited in not only quality, but also limited in variety. You can only have so many gas station corn dogs before you never want one again. Also, Korean food in general has been gaining more and more popularity here in the U.S. over the last 10 years, so its still new and exciting for a lot of people. Lastly, since most of us do not get to eat this food normally(unless we are lucky enough to have a nearby resuraunt or market), even "bad" Korean food is still very good!
@CosmicTerrorize Жыл бұрын
I feel like a food hipster, I've been telling anyone who will listen for over 15 years now that they should be eating Korean food. 😆

Living in south korea would be nice even if it's for a visit but I'd save that korean bbq for the weekend, coffee I can spend every morning and the same goes for that bento. I can make do with the minimalist skin care products and the dollar store would only for the bare essentials. My target spending goal daily would be between $9 to $12 per day.

7:15 minimum hourly wage in sk is around 7$, meanwhile in my country, that's like a bit more than average indonesian daily wage which is 5$ (the minimum would be around 3$/d), and a decent food in indonesia would cost around 3-4$, yes you can get food cheaper than that in indonesia but that's like, full of carbs (rice) and extremely oily fried food, sometimes even a day old food lol. no wonder we have the shortest people and unhealthy skin 😂

I have to agree with you. Many cafes here don't serve a strong espresso or drip cup. There are exceptions. The % Arabica Cafe at Starfield is one of the exceptions. Killer cup of espresso. I am extremely particular with my coffee too and it kills me inside seeing espressos being transferred into a shot glass/demitasse and then into the served cup. The fucking crema. Unfortunately, this is a global issue.
