You know what I've never noticed before in the cold open? Pam points out the phones are dead, so no one tries to call for help. But when Stanley collapses, Jim casually pulls a cell phone from his pocket and hands it to Oscar. VERY subtle joke, that they all had phones and just forgot. 😂

I've been waiting so long for this episode. I know a lot of people consider "Dinner Party" to be the best of the show but personally I've always thought of "Stress Relief" as the absolute peak - and from what I believe to know of your sense of humour Jimmy, I had a feeling you'd love it too. Because this was a Super Bowl episode, there were several specific guidelines. The first (and most obvious) was to have as strong a cold open as possible to keep viewers interested. The second was to have all the storylines be self contained, thus no reference to the Dwight/Angela/Andy or any ongoing subplot. The third request came from the network: have major A-list guest stars. At the time, the showrunners were avoiding having any A-list guest stars on the show as they thought it would break the documentary style vibe of the show (they would later abandon this rule completely). So, they decided they would put their A-list celebrities in a show within a show, thus allowing the network to promote the episode as featuring JACK BLACK but also keep to their rule.

This is an all-time two parter for me and if it wasn't for the Jim/Pam/Andy stuff weighing in down with that bizarre movie (that wasn't that funny for how often they showed it) - it would be my number 1. Absolutely legendary and so quotable. I feel like so many people love Dinner Party, with good reason, but this is better because it showcases more of the entire cast. Especially that cold open. Your reaction was awesome to see, I watched it twice because it was so much fun to see you laugh at all the things I laugh at - particularly your reaction to Dwight tricking Phyllis into signing his 'statement of regret' - awesome!

"The Injury" will always be my fave episode all around, but Dwight's little fire drill was my fave cold open (after Michael hitting Meredith w/his car). When Angela throws her cat to Oscar & it comes back through the drop ceiling...OMG, the 1st time my husband & I saw it, we were dying. But like you , the B plot was super bizarre. I can't believe they even got Jack Black, Chloris Leachman, & Katie Holmes to do a fake movie for that is just super weird

Realistically,what would Dwight be charged with when it comes the Fire Drill? This is maybe The perfect opening in any episode of The Office to this point in the series,and definitely a contender for top 10 episodes in the series. I personally think there's a few more all timers to look forward too.

I do not know why those scenes are in this series. One of the worst (but far from only) example of the show throwing in dumb underdeveloped or fundamentally bad ideas that just don't work, starting in season 4 and getting worse as the seasons continue. Hard not to see it as either writers simply having no ideas to fill the time, or network mandated stunts to try to cling to ratings now that the PB&J heyday is over. Seasons 2-3 have basically zero dead weight. Everything after has some. Can the show still kill it? Absolutely, see the cold open here. And at least one great new character still to come. But it seems to mix in an occasional bit of garbage in the midst of that good stuff, now.

It feels weird but I think the film's so ridiculous that it's funny.

I think this episode began the trend of what really started to hurt this show. I feel that what made The Office so great was that it was about very regular every day people in their mundane workplace. It seems like the executives started pushing the show to shoehorn celebrities into the episodes, but the show works better without them.
