The proposal scene was the most expensive shot in the entire run of the show. In an empty parking lot in California, the crew built a replica of a rest stop on the Merritt Parkway with a 4 lane race track was built around it. 35 professional drivers and semi-trucks looped around it at 55 mph. A rain machine was used for the rain, and CGI was used to digitally replace the California mountains in the background. The showrunner Greg Daniels had this specific shot in mind for the proposal and nothing in California met his vision, and by this time in The Office run, the show's ratings gave him the clout to get it approved. Furthermore, by building it instead of flying the cast to a real location, they could control all elements (# of cars passing, rain, etc).

Fun fact, the petrol station where they get engaged was built specifically for the show IIRC. They wanted to have a perfect stage for that big story moment.

4:31 no professor would actually do that. I hate that part. If someone is in the wrong class, they're in the wrong class. Also who would sit back down

Up until this point, Greg Daniels was the primary showrunner. For season 5, he became just exec producer and turned the show runner duties over to head writer/ Paul Lieberstein ("Toby") and writer Jen Cellotta. Paul and Jen were both nervous taking over showrunner duties, and while Paul had successfully juggled playing Toby and being head writer, he wanted to limit his acting duties. This is one of the main reason that Holly was brought in, so that there was a valid reason why Toby wouldn't be in the office.

I kind of like how their 2 more serious interactions (Jim saying he loves her at the "casino party", and this scene here), Pam starts with some sort of joke, and Jim just shocks her with something incredibly serious.

I really do like the Pam and Jim theme, after all they each went through it’s a relief that they are together and it works! Not many of us get to have that, of course it’s just a show.😊
