FYI, the part where they say the Premium gives you access to "offline viewing" is blatantly false. You can't even be logged in, if you're offline. What if you've logged in and then gone offline? "Couldn't connect. Try again." That being said, it does let you download videos, which (after they started forcing updates on the 2.6 version) is the only way you can watch anything without constant buffering. But then again, one 20min episode takes like 500MB and takes a while to download, so why bother? There are many way better free options on the internet. "But you're not supporting the creator!" Well, I'm pretty sure that less than a cent of your premium subscription goes to a creator of any given creator of the dozens of shows you've watched this month. If you've ever bought a single DVD, manga or other official product related to the show, you've already supported *the show that you like* at least a hundred, if not a thousand, times more than someone who's only ever been subscribed to something like this.

I remember Funimation having a lot of Classics from 90’s-2010’s so I liked that service to rewatch some shows I missed from childhood. Crunchyroll has a bunch of the new Hits so I do pick up a month or two of Crunchyroll Premium to binge watch a bunch of seasons,then cancel my subscription when I’m done watching my favorites. If I was a hardcore anime fan like I was when I was younger, I think I’d have multiple anime streaming service subscriptions tbh

CR is more like personal gain and profit, while the other websites and usually free streaming do not force the money out of your pockets, they use royalties wich they give to the original artists wich those artists can exchange for hard earned cash. While CR does not support this instead using others hard work to fill their own pockets. Making the other examples also a more popular choice since they use a sort of Fair Trade ideal towards the original artists and their work helping to develop and release more titles.

the thing is the property is mostly in other countries operating by different laws than what a lot of western cultures do. Like there is no place really premiering anime outside of places like crunchyroll and funi, both of which sort of have a limited selection of everything. This leads to pirating. The best thing japan can do imo is make their own hosting service and just put everything on it over trying to market these shows after their air date. Funi of course is a bit more acceptable due to them adding/changing content with the dubbing

So potentially if I wanted to watch something that is on their servers they tell me no because I live in a this country. They essentially want me to pay for a worse service. The ads don't matter because I have them all blocked. Not sure why some others don't do that. Sure supporting your favorite creators is cool but not at the cost of your sanity.

I guess some fans treated CR ads like tv back in the scheduled tv days. I could never do that though because it’s the internet and that was supposed to mean no ads. To add to that CR ads were so much more annoying than tv ads. At least there were different ads back then. Internet ads especially on CR are all the same and there were so many times when the ad would freeze momentarily or restart because I paused the video or wanted to mute or skip or idr. It made the experience so much more frustrating than normal ads on tv in the 2000s. I hated CR’s approach to advertising. Making it frustrating enough to say you’ll pay just to not experience the ads. It never worked on me because why would I pay when the service gave me a bad experience, but there’s a lot of diehard CR fans out there, especially in my gen who saw CR’s beginnings, the fans did eventually convince me to try out the paid service. Gave it a shot for a few months. I abandoned that, too. The paid for service annoyed me far too often to keep it.

Recommendations?
@sunayama46503 жыл бұрын
If VRV still had Funimatiin, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Geek and Sundery, and all of the other channels it had a while back, I would have recommended that over Crunchyroll... You'd get content from 10 or more anime/gaming/nerdy services (including Crunchyroll and original content like Harmonquest by Dan Harmon) all for $9.99 a month. It was owned by the same company who owned Crunchyroll, but I don't know if that changed after Sony bought Crunchyroll. Edit At least it still has Crunchyroll, Harmonquest, and Gary and His Demons... And apparently Rooster Teeth. (As of today, VRV has Crunchyroll, Cartoon Hangover, HIDIVE, Mondo, Rooster Teeth, and original content)

I paid for crunchyroll for over a year and would still be a member today if not for their absolutely terrible video player. The thing would crash multiple times during a single video. But the worst part is that when it did crash, it didn't save your watch progress so I would have to find where I was every time it did crash. I can overlook something like that when It's free, but that's just not acceptable when I'm paying you for your service every month. I don't know how it is now, but for as long as I used the service it's been that way. What's the point in giving them more money when they're not even upgrading the only reason I'm there in the first place.

fun fact in the netherlands you only have crunchyroll as your main source of anime because the whole funimation website is blocked so i can't watch demon slayer, hunterXhunter or fma brother hood.

I watched my first anime back in the 80-es "Robotech" and recently subed to crunshy roll. My main problems.... too long waiting periods between episodes, cancled episodes and the animes where only the newest seasons are avalible.😭😭😭 If they can air lets say season 5 then why not the previous 4???? Other than that i have binged sooooo many series lately. I like good characters, and a decent story. I have many favourites depending on my mood. Love stories, fun, isekai, shounen... So my premium subscription is all worth it. 50 years old and I STILL like this.

I expect that Sony is going to combine Funimation and Crunchyroll into a single service, or, less likely, they'll do like Disney with Hulu and keep them separate for different purposes (probably dubs on Funi, subs on CR). I also expect that Crunchyroll is going to be removed from VRV in due time, since VRV is owned by AT&T, the now former owners of Crunchyroll, and back when Funimation was bought by Sony they removed Funi from VRV because of corporate rivalries.

I tried Crunchyroll but it really is horrible. I mean you pay 5 $ per month and you encouter a lot of stuttering so i decided to watch anime on zoro
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr8 ай бұрын
Agreed. Even in the US, there’s just more problems than is reasonable to deal with when you’re paying for a service. When I had been paying I spent more time being annoyed by the small issues that came up day to day and things that just bothered me to no end when I thought back to my experience on other services paid and otherwise. I eventually just pulled the plug because really why pay for CR service. Some of the issues like crashing on weekends with popular shows were just unacceptable. I should be able to enjoy anime when I want when I’m paying for the service.

Crunchyroll has a lot of bad reviews. Especially form people who had canelled their subscription but they were still being charged for the subscription and the customer service was described as useless. Is this a common problem? If so, then I won't be subscribing, because I don't want to lose money on nothing.
