Many thanks Jim for this helpful view of Essentials. When you showed the effect of having light at the edges in vignette, it solved a problem with an old photo which has this, so I hopefully will pull the slider the opposite way to normalise the image. Thanks and Regards Joe

Hi Jim, 11:18, please advise the difference between adjusting a colour image and using the black and white button versus using the black and white button and adjusting colour sliders for the black and white image. Thanks and Regards JB
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi JB, when you use the Luminance sliders within the black and white filter, you are adjusting the brightness of those colors in the image, so even though the image is now black and white you can further refine how it looks using these luminance sliders. Does that answer the question? thanks

Another informative video, especially since I have the same image taken at the same time of day, from almost the same spot on the bridge. One tool that I would like to see you dive into is masking in the Details tool. With my old eyes and the inability for Neo currently to provide a black image with white edges, I rarely use it. Just a thought.

Haha thanks Don and yep I bet a lot of us have that image. 😀 I will probably come back and do a specific video on details etc. This one was just an intro/overview sort of thing. Thanks.

Nice essentials overview. IMHO, the takeaway is don't be afraid to expand the advance rolldown menus of each tool. It is amazing sometimes the amount of control you can unleash. True not all sliders are relevant to all images, but how can you know if you don't check ;). Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jim. Thanks for all the helpful videos. Does Neo allow the addition of a signature/watermark? It's the only tool I have besides Apple Photos.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi Judy and thanks for watching. You can do this via the layers tool, assuming you have made the watermark elsewhere already (no text tool in Neo). You would need to add it as a layer and then adjust the blend mode to find the one that works best. I will look at doing a video on this. Thanks.

Jim, I just learned from another presenter (Anthony Turnham in New Zealand) that Skylum (Neo's developer) is based in Ukraine, specifically Kiev. Given current circumstances, we all need to be patient in waiting for Neo's further updates/improvements.

Hi Lee and yes they are, I have also mentioned that a few times. I know they appreciate the support and patience. Thanks.

Would you ever use Neo and AI on the same photo? If so, would like to see a video on that workflow.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, good question and I am not sure if I would need to do that. I guess it depends on the image and what I needed to do, but generally the same filters are in each (although there are some things missing from Neo right now) so the overlap is pretty high. Thanks.

Great tutorial as always Jim. Just one doubt when I open Luminar Neo, under the Develop tab I don't see any camera profile option. Are the options different for windows users, or is there an issue with my version of Luminar ( version 1.0.1 (9236). Thanks.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shane and camera profiles only exist for raw files, hope that helps and thanks much
@therealscottadamsTM2 жыл бұрын
Can we download other camera profiles to use in develop tool?

Yes it will allow you to load a custom DCP profile. You would have to Google that to see where to get some but it does accept user-loaded files. Thanks.

I really appreciate your videos Jim, and am a loyal subcriber. I am very disappointed with Skylum for crowd sourcing Neo. Having to wait for a usable version for over 6 months and then when finally released it is incomplete. I'm sticking with Luminar 4 and lightroom for now and will never pre-purchase from Skylum again.

Hi there and thanks for watching, and I also understand the frustration. I am doing my best to educate on what is available today, and of course will add to this as new features come into Neo. But for sure L4 and LR is a great combo still and very powerful. thanks

Can you edit a Preset like you can in AI. For example, if you don't want any sky enhancement from Scenery preset Clear and Sharp what can you do?

Hi Martin and right now you cannot edit a preset. It's locked. I have given them feedback about this and I suspect in the future that will be corrected. Thanks.

Hi Jim, with AI in eg Accent AI don't all the elements of all Skylum products take the user to slider options that are in the Luminar Neo program, please? With the elements that do the sort of thinking offers with animation and then settling on a suggestion to the user, demonstrate AI, please? I only posit this because of your knowledge of AI, and mention of one click because I have clicked on it and it didn't move until I slid it, and my not understanding what is included in its definition. I look forward to your helpful reply, please Jim. Seasons Greetings Joe

Hi Jim, I am quite new to Luminar Neo, but watching your presentations helps me to proceed. I have one simple question, hope you could comment that. Whn I open a RAW file, then I go from Tools to Essentials. I you screen I can see Enhance AI, but in my (ver 1.18.2) I cannot. That is annoying, as I do not know how to do Masking in RAW development. Ayny hints? soem links...? Thanks, Gert
@JimNixАй бұрын
Hmm, Enhance AI should be there, unless you added it as a Favorite, in which case it will appear in a new section above Essentials called Favorites. Can you look there?
@GertHellevigАй бұрын
Thanks Jim, indeed I found it in Favorites. So many small things slowing the the leearing of the real development of the photographs as many times it is difficult to find some simple answers. I do not recon that I would have moved anything in the app, but... Ok, big thanks , and I'll keep on studying your very helpful tutorials.

Color is by itself and also in Develop - why? The edit counter that's new. You have used the word commit associated with the Develop heading in other videos. Take it slow. It's not intuitive to me. The erase tool subtools - is there a sequence you need to use? So far I have determined you have to run a Preset before using the erase tool (or any other tool by itself). Erase powerlines before doing ordinary erases especially because erase powerlines can miss some wires, shadows of wires, and reflections of wires in windows.

Let's keep in mind that Skylum's core development center is located in Kyiv Ukraine. They are in constant danger, so we should not expect instant changes to the software. The NEO software is therefore in danger of never being completed.
