Great demonstration on ways to dodge and burn. On another note, I’ve taken some photos in the fog. Is there a particular method one should use when editing these images ? If so, can you do a demonstration on that ? Thanks
@JimNix
@JimNix 4 күн бұрын
Hi Tony and thanks. When there is fog, I usually want to accentuate it, so it can be a variety of tools. Atmosphere AI can help add to it. You can use Develop to brighten the whites too. Both of these would be masked into the right areas of course. There's not a specific thing I would do as it depends on the image, but those are two things I can think of right now. Thanks!

There is a much simpler way to do this in a decent editor. Much more control, way faster and better results. Quit using these stupid raw develop tools for local adjustments.

It’s a bit funny one of the things I appreciate the most about Ne-Yo is it gives me so many options to potentially use other than dodge and burn in Photoshop. I just love all the easy to use masks. I have access to use. This is a very interesting method.

Hi, Jim, I 100% agree with you about Aurora, which unfortunately is discontinued. I have been trying so hard to find something equivalent to Aurora HDR in a way performance and to be honest with you, I have no success. I have tried Photomatix, ON1, Luminar Neo, LRC, HDR Efex of Nik Collection (the first HDR app I used some 8 years ago. I soon turned to Aurora HDR after I found Aurora). I have got a few other apps recommended by Chatgpt which I am really reluctant to try as I read through their key features. You probably have some hidden gems in your collection. Would you help me? I need one because I just gathered a group of photography enthiusiats playing along. Thanks so much in advance. I am also known as Michael

Mr. Nix, just so you know that when I click your link to buy the on1 upgrade (current owner), it sends me to the on1 landing page. When I click the purchase button, it defaults to a code other than yours, i.e. earlybf (early black friday special). It is the same 20% discount for me, but does not credit you as a source of the sale. I have to manually delete the default code and enter your code. I don't know if this can be corrected, the programming may be daunting for On1 to redesign on their part.

One thing I'd like to see covered in your tutorials would be where different tools overlap in their capabilities (color, light, noise, sharpening, etc., etc.) why one would choose one tool vs. another or how they function differently, etc. Thanks!!
@sghayes
@sghayes 13 күн бұрын
I wouldn't count out LUT's, it's film industry standards (Mood app) applied after develop vs. monochrome Adobe based profiles in Raw or Luminar's own profile so you pick a standard to start? What the truly gifted poses is a mind that precision sorts out variations in perfect slide presentation and they pick one, while I'm left to sort them out like playing cards in front of me and decide which, no way could I just go ...all done, nothing to compare it with though

why not water enhancement app if you use the select object tool which grabbed a mountain peak, same principle because it grabs the water and you can control blue, green, original color, contrast, brightness...Mask; if you slide the controllers to full, then back adjust the look for the area you see....you can live paint in that effect with a brush as opposed to brushing red fuzz all over then going back to adjust -sort of a reverse technique requires more trial and error, but the enhancements live painted are still adjustable after applied without using layers, and I find it more personal when using intuitive tools like Neo has .... Something like Affinity which I use, is not intuitive at all no AI involved and a great product to have just because an intuitive self-learning system is something that takes you to another level of viewing, that's fine with me however I prefer to have a base line. You never know where you are until you look behind from where you came or you just assume you have progressed? Point is Neo changes how we see things right from the start, we are slowly being programmed in this way of seeing things differently and the direction curve of the AI involved is not leading us, taking us where we want to go. I like the idea of being tethered in this sense, therefore Affinity, but Neo is my go to

Thanks for another great demo. One thing I learned, only after seeing my blown-up prints, is that it's virtually never a good idea to add structure to the sky. It makes the colors look "segmented" or banded almost like a topographic map. Also, it seems that if you raise the sky highlights excessively, objects that touch it seem to have a white halo around them, particularly branches.
@JimNix
@JimNix 17 күн бұрын
Thanks Robert and yes I don't add structure to skies and totally agree about the haloing, you have to be careful for sure.

Hey Jim, any chance of a tutorial on how to make Sunrays pop? I have a lot of shots with sun through trees and some fog but would love how to make them pop abit more in the final edit
@JimNix
@JimNix 17 күн бұрын
I don't have a video specific to that idea, and I think it depends on what you mean by "pop". Generally I would experiment with the sunrays tool and then possibly also use other tools with a mask in the area to refine the overall look of the light.
