Iron Jugulis Just Hit #1 in Gen 9 OU. Here's How.

Pokemon Competitive Singles has seen a big shakeup with the release of Gen 9's new DLC. Iron Jugulis is objectively the worst Pokemon ever made. Some speculate that a total of 5 minutes was spent on this Pokemon's name and Design concept.
Unfortunately for me, Iron Jugulis has proven to be a valuable member of a Gen 9 OU team built by the player Artifice, that recently hit #1 on the ladder.
This team also featured Tinkaton, a cool Pokemon with a hammer.
How did Iron Jugulis manage to achieve something? This is still unknown to this day.

From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on KZbin. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Fun fact: From its Japanese name Tetsu no koube, it should've been called Iron Head. This unfortunately conflicts with the existing move of Iron Head in English (the Japanese name for the move is just "Iron Head" in katakana). They resolved it by using Jugulis from the Latin word for throat/neck jugulum. An alternative route would be to simply name it Iron Neck or call it Iron Heads since it has many of them.

I think iron jugulis has an interesting design. The 2 heads can detach from the body while they can’t on hydreigon. Iron jugulis looks sleeker compared to hydreigon. My only complaint is that they didn’t even try to make it look like a tank like hydreigon was going to be at some point in development. I don’t think the design is that bad but I wouldn’t call it lazy either.

I think part of why many people are upset some Future paradoxes are just robot versions is because some are great like treads, bundle, and valiant being so inventive. Hands is at the border but I still love it and I personally like Crown but other than that so much potential

Future Paradox may look bad, but they look worse when compared to Past Paradox. The trend with them is that they look aggressive, spiky, violent, and have new body overgrown body parts. The one I would consider the simplest is Scream Tail, but it's still a Jigglypuff with personality. Iron Thorns is just fake Tyranitar. TLDR: Past Paradox are not all named "Iron" and all of them have and deserve to words to describe them.

Having studied latin back in High school, I was able to quickly understand the meaning behind Iron Jugulis' name, and was mildly surprised by the gate of the community for this thing. Also, frankly I have no idea what acceptable alternatives there even were (Iron Throaths sounds weird, and Iron Necks Is far too funny of a name to be fitting). That's not to Say It makes up for its underwhelming design, and the overall opportunity cost of having to have had to study friggin' LATIN to understand the gist of the meaning behind Iron Jugulis' name, of all Pokémon.

Iron Jugulis is more a failing of special attacks for Dark and Flying types Dark's best common move is Dark Pulse which is 80 power, in a world where many special attacks have their high end at 90 or 95 Flying isn't much better with Air Slash and Hurricane, at 75 power Air Slash is a gimmicky pick that relies on RNG to get more damage, while Hurricane with it's 110 is appealing the 70% accuracy is a huge issue that only Mega Pidgeot could live with Iron Jugulis has a really nice stat spread, good boosting moves, and some utility with Knock off and Taunt, even it's type has value as shown in this video... but until it gets some more useful and reliable attacks it won't be seeing consistent use

This isn't the first time this has happened. Several generations ago, Hydreigon in Singles was UU or at the bottom of OU. All Dragons were underperforming in Singles following the introduction of the Fairy-type. (Hydreigon was excellent in Doubles, though.) Someone reached number one and was consistently in Top 5 in OU on PS because they used a Hydreigon with THREE status moves and one attack. I think it was Toxic, Torment, and Tailwind or something? TTT Dark Pulse or Dragon Pulse. This was a highly unusual moveset as Hydreigon was a Life Orb mixed attacker in Singles or Choice Specs attacker in either format. Professionals would later turn Hydreigon into a flexible Life Orb or Leftovers attacker.

Oh I fought against someone using this team who was in like the 1900s or something the other day. Idk if it’s the same person who hit #1 or someone else using the team, but either way I was not too impressed with the Iron Jugulis in the match. It teraed Steel to survive when I switched Ttar in, only to do like 20% with Earth Power while I set up Rocks on it and and then forced it out with Dragon Tail, wasting its booster energy. The Tinkaton was more interesting imo, it stole the Choice Band from my Rillaboom, making it an offensive threat later in the match while weakening Rillaboom
