What a coincidence, I took an ensemble class at the Old Town School, and everybody had a song to sing, and this was mine. I actually played guitar on it. I think it’s one of the iconic bluegrass songs. We did TR’s version but not as fast.

Jim, we are all human so we are prone to mistakes! Your licks could fit into *Old Home Place* or *Sunny Side Of The Mountain*. These two songs are quite popular, and could be added to your editions. ^_^

Hi Jim, I really enjoy your videos. How about a cover of either ramblin man by Alman bros or midnight flyer? Keep at it bud, cheers
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 4 жыл бұрын
Used to play Midnight Flyer from time to time back in the early 80s... I don't think I've played it since. It would have been pretty much a straight ahead bluegrass arrangement though. Thing is, those sorts of tunes are more or less approached by finding rolls and licks to fake my way through them. I realize I did Marshall Tucker thing, but that was a "commission" sorta thing... it's not something I've played since posting that video. :)

Hey Jim, I've been wanting to pick up the banjo and watching your videos and lessons have really got be intrigued. I know a bit (like very little) of how to play string instruments such as guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. Anyway, I was wondering what you think a good starting banjo would be. You know, not a super expensive top brand banjo. Just a good budget starter just in the case I don't fall in love with it. Thanks in advance for any recommendations

If you can afford a RK35, you will not need another banjo until you start recording...Jim has some videos on his channel here....I was upgrading from a Deering Goodtime and wanting to dive into Scruggs style but my Deering lacked the tone I wanted...I bit the bullet and got one and I love it...absolutely love it....Check out Banjohangout...sometimes there are rk35s for sale at a steal. it's worth the investment.

Hey Jim. Thanks for the lessons. Would love to go to folk school with my wife but working right now. Did not know about the school until you mentioned it. Do you teach there regularly?
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 5 жыл бұрын
I've done 2 or 3 banjo classes a year for the past several years... so fairly regular as that sort of thing goes. :)

Hello Jim, I'm trying to accompany my father with my banjo. He plays the accordion. if I make the back up then with the F-shape and D-shape. (vamping) but if I want to make rolls it does not sound so great .. do you have a tip? Is there a universal roll for F / D shape? Thanks a lot for your help! Greetings from 🇨🇭✌🏼
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 4 жыл бұрын
There is no universal roll for anything. Any roll will work with any shape. You have to decide what you like. :)
@severinneukom
@severinneukom 4 жыл бұрын
thanks :-) do you have to make a lesson about different back up rolls? :-)
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 4 жыл бұрын
Rolls are rolls.. The same rolls that I teach in my beginner series are the same rolls I use for everything. I don't have "back up rolls".

Hello Jim and all the subscribers, not a video comment, sorry. My banjo is tuned so that the distance between the strings and the fretboard is about 5 millimeters per 12 frets, playing is not very convenient. Do you have a video on adjusting the 5-string banjo neck? The information in our search engines is very small.
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 5 жыл бұрын
I've not done a setup video... I just don't have a good way to demonstrate that I guess. 5mm is high.. 3 would be about right...

Hey Jim! I’m interested in banjo but I don’t have a big budget. I was wondering if you have any idea about the Ibanez banjos or better banjo at that 300-400 price range. Thank you for your time.
@JimPankey
@JimPankey 4 жыл бұрын
I generally point my students toward the Recording King Dirty 30s models. I've had a couple of students recently that opted for the Ibanez and they seem to be just fine.
