When will marketers learn that they are there to promote a game and make sure it sells, not to make sure developers make something that will sell; marketing is there to support art, not to dictate it.
@Tron08
@Tron08 5 жыл бұрын
@@inciaradible7144 This is true, #NotAllMarketing. But seriously projects that have been developed with a passion and a vision, then marketed based on that. (which is how it should be), will almost always be more valuable than projects that are developed with the main goal of squeezing as much out of the end-user as possible, and same with projects whose goal is, "how much can we get away with".

The issue I have is that marketing has taken precedence over creation. It's also weirdly anti-capitalist. Theoretically, products and services should succeed or fail on their merits, not through frankly exploitative marketing trickery. Look at the POG video Jim dropped recently. That's pure smoke-and-mirrors bullshit to sell literal garbage to children.

Well, look at it this way - they've probably managed to run an entire studio for YEARS and create this absolute titan of a story driven game for about the same money as a yearly bonus of some washed up CEO from a major publisher. Only shows how overpaid those corporate dogs are, and how little positive(if any) effect they have on companies they are in charge of.

It's the best game I've played this year too. It's awesome. 1348 is actually the year when there were three threats, just like in the game: 1 The plague and the rats, corpses piling up on the streets 2 Catholic inquisition, murderous and accusative, and 3 the beginning of the 100 years' war with the English. One of the worst years to be alive. A lot of elements of this game are actually historically accurate and realistic.

One thing I love about the visual design of this game is that it doesn't all just look horrible. There's plenty of horrific imagery and disgusting places.But otherwise it looks like a real, beautiful landscape where something bad is going on. It doesn't just make out like with the rats comes terrible weather and darkness. The setting is incredibly grim purely because of all the blood and bodies, not because they make the landscape needlessly dreary. I think that's incredibly effective, it makes the bad shit stand out so much more. If you took all the bodies away and made it a "walking simulator" style game like Everybody's Gone To Rapture you'd have no idea it was designed to be a horror stealth-survival game, it looks magnificent.And then of course, the disgusting stuff is creepy and well designed too.

I argue that It's really a way more complex game than most released this year Stealth games aren't simple or easy, doubly so when you can't just mow down the problem once you get within arm's reach of a guard. Too many stealth games now rely on being able to do 'sick takedowns' and solve entire rooms of problems instead of providing a clear, concise path for the player to go through or presenting the problems like a puzzle. (Looking at you, modern splinter cell). It may look simple if it's just distracting guards to walk around them and trying to fend off rats, but I contend that's still more complex presentation for a stealth section than kill guard -> use ability kill guard -> use ability.
@SynphamyMusic
@SynphamyMusic 5 жыл бұрын
@@bmylyzgtsqyfw I haven't finished this game yet but i find the stealth in this game about medium. It doesn't get too frustrating but like Jim said, they create the atmosphere so well that it never feels like you're just breezing through it either. I think the focus is more on the experience and the story, and rightfully so, they set this world up to be so bleak and disgusting, it wouldn't be appropriate to feel accomplished every time you get through a section because the characters are still in a dire situation, at least that's how i feel anyway. This is a feeling i haven't had since earlier game of thrones or Lord of The rings, when the gorgeous world is so drained of colour it really reinforces that sense of doom, like nothing good ever happens so it makes you want to find out how they get out of the situation. So yeah, in this case, i really don't mind stealth being more simplistic, they got it exactly right for the tone of the game.

All of the gameplay I've seen its basically a walking simulator with distract enemies and "stealth" which all together is an escort mission. With not too much gameplay. But I might give it a shot, it might not be as boring as the footage made it look like. Since the last boss fight is a total joke

I would sugest to hold your horses. I haven't played the game but judging by the streams and videos it seems pretty average. I love stealth games but what this game offers is pretty basic and the story is nothing to be amazed either so im glad Jim liked it so much but I would recommend more research.

This game is utterly brilliant. It's just what I want from a game - a solid, intensely original story. Great voice acting, great graphics, fun gameplay and NO BULLSHIT! You buy the game and that's that. You get to play it and have fun. No silliness, loot crates, gambling (sorry, 'surprise') mechanics, meaningless DLC, bloated quests just to bulk out the game, etc. Just a damn good game, and this is from a studio that have made Disney spin-off titles for most of their existence. I look forward to seeing what they produce next. Support titles like this.

Amazing! Just finished it. One of the best stories i have every experienced in a game. Gameplay wise it has a few balacing issues, overall it's mostly easy and fun and then suddenly it shifts to extremely hard trial & error moments, that stop the narrative flow in an unnecessary way. But this is just nitpicking. The overall experience is just damn incredible. Ratnado!

It's a nice touch of showing that there are still so many elements from our own history that have barely even been tapped when it comes to creative storytelling. It touches the disgusting never so well as deep down, you can only imagine what it must have been like for European pesants in the times of plague like the Black Death.

thanks for recommending this little gem, Jim. I just finished it right after finishing TLOU2 and I gotta say I enjoyed my time much more with this one. the pacing is just so much better here. and the story goes places, man. when I first saw the trailer and this Jimpression I had thought I'd seen everything this game had to offer, but it actually saves up some surprises... and it's just so consistently beautiful _and_ horrifying from start to finish with some incredible set pieces in pretty much every chapter.

Certainly. I hope it gets enough sales, because a lot of gamers are going to be turned off by it's longevity. 10-12 hours would have been considered just fine back in the 90's or early 2000's... But nowadays, since online rpgs and looter shooters, many players expect to be entertained for thousands of hours per game. And many of those aren't willing to give another type of game a chance. Some seem to confuse time committment with quality time, and that's sad.
