The game isn't as bad as everyone makes it look, not saying it's a good game, but it's actually better than people say.. Glitches and stuff is rather normal for many games. At least it doesn't crash every 5 minutes like other games, and there's a lot of smaller details that show a lot of effort actually went into the game. Just not in some of the core stuff that matters, in short: most of the effort went into the wrong place. This game is actually enjoyable. It's just hard to enjoy anything if you just join the hate wagon.

So that problem where models glitch through hills? That's caused by the game not knowing how to make models treat hills as flat planes to rest on. So when a model stops or tries to move up a hill, rather than treating it as an incline, which would force them to program a model that could account for that, it instead treats it as a set of stairs almost. So every time the model stops, it readjusts to the horizontal plane, making it clip through/float in the air like that. It's usually used for player characters or two legged characters, but obviously when applied to anyone or anything with a wide base, the effect is them either clipping through the ground or floating in the air because the model literally doesn't know how to respond to an incline. That used to be a major issue like, six years ago, but that's inexcusable for a major title to have now.

The idiots who ragged on Jim because he wasn't playing on "HARD MODE" pretty much failed to grasp the concept of what a GOOD game is: YOU DON'T NEED HARD MODE TO MAKE THE GAME "BETTER". If NORMAL MODE catches your interest in wanting to play the game non-stop, then HARD MODE only "ENHANCES" the overall experience of what a good game is - it doesn't make the game "better", only HARDER. HARD MODE is not a mode like "NEW GAME PLUS" that adds to the content. HARD MODE is supposed to be a challenge when you've already gotten the nuances of the normal game down pat and want to see how far you can go with a high difficulty setting. When I think of games with "HARD MODE", I think back to a game called Ninja Gaiden (for XBOX, the original system): having beaten the normal mode where everyone wants to kill you then switching to HARD MODE where everybody and their grandma wants to fucking OBLITERATE you with ONE HIT.

Yeah, sadly hard or "chaos" modes in these games have never really been exactly harder, just more grindy. Yeah, enemies can hurt you for more, but the main issue is that they just have a ton of health and take forever to smash down. I often only really play on Hard or Chaos when it's an unlock requirement for weapons and such. Because I don't find taking 5 minutes to kill one officer and their ridiculously inflated health bar to be fun.

Difficulty settings are a dated concept frankly. Players cannot be expected to know how they would best experience a game without having already played it. When I was young I tended to keep games on normal difficulty because when I started on hard I'd get destroyed. Now I tend to start on hard because it actually forces me to learn the details of the game and I tend to get far more out of it. I missed entire interesting game systems because I had decided that losing didn't seem fun. So their impulse isn't necessarily wrong. I also understand in the context of DW because the recent ones were downright boringly easy on normal. Honestly requiring higher difficulty settings for game systems to even matter is bad design, but it's also ubiquitous. I was really hoping dark souls might have shown that there are benefits to going with only one difficulty setting, but it seems few others caught on.

I'd personally apply hunting to the older game style by having an inexplicable army of tigers or bears suddenly leaping into an area, attacking both sides and have it as a contest of which side kills the most to get morale or food buff to the winning side. Something that interrupts the fight in an area and draws your attention for a possible reward.

I can, I have played all of them apart from DW7XL. I am not going to though as he is absolutely spot on about the desires of the fanbase. Dynasty warriors has always looked bad, but the glitching was kept to a minimum because the maps were small. I'm really not digging the voice of Mr Burns. I have to take it on his impression, but I know exactly what he means by dynasty warriors 3 having some cheesy lines. Also the doubling up on weapons is normal for a first title, but is always annoying to see. The weapons are always a part of the personality of the general, and I would have rather seen some generals turning back generic than having the same weapon reused again on special officers. The question is what can be done ? I feel like they are running out of steam on this enterprise. That's why it has been 3 years since empires. I personally am starting to get bored about all the scenarios and I fear the fanbase in general might be as well. If they wanted to see a mode similar than they should have used the officer mode in DW5 (XL?). In that you start out with 3 attacks and use gold to upgrade your character. Hard mode really doesn't look hard enough. It would have been nice to have a battle in an open world that took a long time to complete, and while this was happening other officers were doing more important battles you had no control over. Or perhaps put in the duel mechanic from DW4. Ah I am ranting, still unless Jim is a god at this game then I assume it is far too easy to have fun. The fun is either in the challenge or in the mayhem, and there is no mayhem to be had in this game.

Goron1988 I played Guan Yu as my first character in DW9 started on hard eventually went to chaos. It took me almost 50 hours to complete his story. I really like this game but obviously it could be a lot better I'm hoping they update it through the months though. Empires for this game will be awesome as long as they improve on this system. It does suck that this game is getting a lot of backlash but it's understandable. I like the new combat system and I think all the clones are semi clones they don't share every single attack which is nice obviously

If you run straight to the boss, enemy ambushes would devastate your forces, or assassins would kill your leader. A good warriors game has you running around too busy trying to put out fires to just charge in with no strategy.

Um no a lot of times there were walls in the way, dudes in the way, or the main guy wasn't even there until certain events happened. Heck dynasty warriors 6 more than the others let you run to the end without waiting since you could just manually smash through gates to get to the boss. I remember the battle for Hulao Gate you could legit just sprint past everyone, smash the gate to the castle yourself, bitch slap Lu Bu, and instantly kill Dong Zhuo and win without waiting for anything, you had to be a high level to do it but you could do it easily.

beniboy well imagine this, those moments that you're forced into moving across the map for 2-5 minutes at a time with no combat were the parts that I hated in the earlier games, they were "emptier" battle grounds, but there were usually enemies and skirmishes all over, but that was because keeping a horse was boring and bland, if you had one, sure, 5 minutes became like 1 or 2, but mounted combat besides elephants was so bad, and you couldn't call one, and now, WITH horses on demand being added in the later gens, it's a "main feature" to have empty 5 minute country scenic moments

It can go both ways, IMO, though there are issues in DW9 that require both extra patching and maybe another expansion or spin-off (even if those still won't work for Jim, they might convince other players to come back if they see there's more options or better content involved).

I can't speak for Jim, but I'm guessing his issue is largely with the lack of care with which the game has been constructed. If they want to make something different: cool, they've 'sort' of done that before. But the game seems to have an air of lazy incompleteness. I mean, I can see HOW it got like this: they have zero experience with open world games and RPGs and they aren't exactly known for quality to begin with. But, if you aren't good at it and the final product turns out badly, series pedigree means very little. That said, you could DEFINITELY do this to other games in the series. It has long-standing issues with AI, pacing, story, difficulty and presentation. This just takes all those flaws and exacerbates them by scaling back what made it stand out and stretching it out over a massive map.

Apparently the Chinese dub wasn't supposed to be available on steam (licensing issues or something? idk), but there was a work-around to use them since the files were still there. Though now the patch removes the ability to use them at all.

Someone found another work around on the Steam forums, but at this point they should just license it and add it into the game. The rating is down to 15% for all Languages and 44% for English reviewers on Steam, and I dont' doubt that the Chinese language removal tipped that scale /hard/ because it was at 30% for all Languages yesterday.

I got that as well from Steam JUST BECAUSE of his video. Thing is I've only played Hyrule Warriors, but it's one of my favorite games on the Wii U. I've clocked 200 hours, and I'd actually love to throw another $60 at this game to get the Switch 'Definitive Edition' IF and ONLY IF it has a save transfer. :P I wanted to see what the main series was like so I picked it up. That said I must say Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Edition is a good bit of fun, but in some ways the caveats to the fighting I felt in Hyrule Warriors seems to be exacerbated a bit. Such as blocking being kinda slower and the dodge mechanic which was so useful in Hyrule Warriors is absent. And unfortunately, as I have the PC version, it is a pretty lazy port. All controls are referenced via keyboard, and the original presets for the controller (only detects if you plug it in before turning on game) are not even what they are on console. Plus button bindings are listed for any generic controller (listings including J5, B4, etc. so you have no idea what it's set to just by looking at it). Definitely a far-cry from the kind of love seen in PC versions of DOOM and GTA V. Plus it came out for last gen, current gen, and PC, and thus is also apart of what a few games released in 2013, 2014 suffered from; current consoles looking very near-last gen in performance. High settings on my PC? Still doesn't look as good as Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U. It looks and feels like an XBOX 360 game, not a PS4 one. [But differences were so large, they and many other games at the time had to do this to get the same game on both systems] Wow. I ranted for a while, haha! It has it's caveats and it's crashed on me twice, but this kind of gameplay I find addicting and it's been a good bit of fun, 7 hours in and I can see spending a bit more.

I recommend Samurai Warriors 4 Empires. I’ve played most DW games since DW4 (on PS 3&4), and this one is my fave. DW is still the best CoOp game ever. And you should be able to score a 2nd hand copy of SW4E for about $20.

Eh, he'll probably hate that it's DLC (even if we've always got XL or whatever expansions before) and, while it may objectively improve some things (there will be extra weapons but not all the removed ones, because it's not that simple if you really got into the details of how the game plays now), it won't totally move away from the concept or fill the open world with stuff. Honestly, Jim, I think the people who're telling you "you're playing it wrong!" are, at this point, just grasping at straws to justify the quality of the game. To say that this game's allowance of the player to grappling hook their way immediately to a boss objective is either comparable or identical to gameplay in other mainline numbered entries in the franchise shows a total absence of experience and expertise of the previous games. In prior games you would come upon a fortification with a locked gate you could NOT bypass until you killed a nearby officer. Only then the gate would open, you enter the fortification and battle 1 or more enemy characters. Only after their defeat does the back door to the fortification open and you can proceed further into the map towards the primary objective. Furthermore there were often gates or tunnels/caves or what-have-you that infinitely spawned enemy reinforcements which would prevent your allied officers and characters from advancing towards the primary objective if you didn't kill the defending officer to cut off the reinforcements. While usually optional, it would make the primary objective boss more challenging to not have any allies present to distract mobs around the boss who could interrupt your combo or shoot you with arrows, etc., that could get you killed at higher difficulties. The maps in former games were very much designed to gate (pun intended) you from going directly to the boss in many cases and, as Jim said, encouraged you to want to conquer the entire map to see it all turn a beautiful blue with your armies routing the enemy entirely off the map. Only rarely, such as a dwindling time limit, would you make a directly beeline to the boss to kill him at the expense of all other objectives.

Even in stages on older games where you could just walk up to the boss outright, that tended to be risky when you're not only surrounded by grunts left and right(with better AI than what I'm seeing here), but the fact that other officers might close in on you for triggering the encounter without defeating them first.Nevermind that even on horseback there was a chance someone could force you out of it when passing by them in narrow routes. You know, pretending on actually trying to defend their leader with SOME semblance of a tactical approach.

In all my years I've never seen a game damage the only thing it's really known for to such a degree. The game is all about hacking through endless waves of enemies. How could they of possibly thought it was a good idea to reduce enemy amounts and space them out to so much?

There are a bunch of peon captains with multiple health bars they probably thought we wanted to fight. Even named officers you just skip and walk over to the main officer because there is no point, there's no stage structure anymore so it isn't even implied there's a point to fighting them, their troops don't even run away like the older games if you do.

The worst part is, I could imagine an awesome open world Dynasty Warriors game. It sounds like something that should work. Except, I have dynasty warriors 8 extreme legend and dynasty warriors 8 empires and I thought it was a *downgrade* from dw6, which I thought was a *downgrade* from dw4! In dynasty warriors 8 I didn't feel like I was fighting an army, I felt like I was fighting pockets of magically appearing and disappearing mannequins. And I was fighting them in small and sparse maps that lacked any and all complexity. In dynasty warriors 4, the yellow turban rebellion was something like 3 or 4 maps and a hidden one as well. Dong Zhuos rebellion was another few maps. There were nearly ten dense stages before you even reached where we could say the three kingdoms era actually started! In dynasty warriors 8, there were maybe three stages in total in that same place. At least dw6 had stages vary based on what character you played, unlike dw8 where it absolutely doesnt matter. I guess I'm saying I could imagine an awesome open world dynasty warriors game, but I cant imagine one made by the dynasty warriors dev's of today.

One thing that would be fairly easy to do in order to make the battles better is to resemble a little more real battles, meaning: giving orders to sections of your army to do things, protect them and ride with them like a general and only have access to the other army's general in case some conditions are met as: a percentage of the enemy's army is vanquished, or certain portions of the map are taken (like raising a flag in some FPS games). In this case it would not only matter to protect a certain VIP, but it would need leadership skills and your army skills (something that in this case would really be more inovative for DW, like improving not only bodyguards, but your army because it would matter to the battle if they succed or not).

15 hours in and ive enjoyed every minuite of it in spite of some of its issues, only real issue I see is that the AI can sometimes be a bit buggy such as tigersa not attacking you. Otherwise, any other issues are the same issues you get with every new DW game, loss of some characters weapons for example.

Andromeda suffered from using an engine (frostbite) that was not optimised for the kind of animation work that an rpg type game needs, it had a thoroughly inconsistent tone in that it was billed as light hearted exploration but has a main plot of HOW WILL WE SURVIVE IN THIS HOSTILE GALAXY!? it had arbitrarily inserted microtransactions and multiplayer, dialog so terrible my face is tired from,,, everything, it was decidedly mediocre across the board as for destiny, the original had a core following of people who loved the game, not owning a console I never played D1 but the raids seemed ingenious with a mix of platforming puzzling and gunplay a lot of people say D1 nailed its gunplay to be good and solid, and Taken King finally brought a level of story and 'more' to make it truly good (they then fkd up Rise of Iron to most people in going from finally good to back to mediocre) then in D2 bungie essentially chucked out almost every bit of 'progress' they had made since Taken King and even did things even more bland generic and empty than D1 with guns and shaders being less varied, less interesting etc, this has really upset the fanbase, and now Dynasty Warriors 9 has done a similar thing in being noticeably, provably, less than its predecessors in elements that are core to what makes the series itself,
