Mass Effect Andromeda remote control car was good quality build, with built in camera, using a phone app for controller and taking vids/pics, and came with both steel case and std game disc - bought on discount at AU$90 from EB games last Xmas- so thank god for smart buys by smart consumers - shame it was a shite game and package originally sold at AU$295

The only collectors edition I ever considered buying was the horizon: zero dawn one. I just think the absolute vast majority of "collectors editions" are just a bunch of garbage that i don't have room for in my apartment anyways, even if i wanted to have them all. So i never gave them the time of day to begin with. The fact that some of them don't even include the game is new to me. And just gives me yet another reason to stay clear of them. I don't want to get tricked into buying just garbage and no game. I feed bad for anyone who was tricked into buying a cardboard box filled with garbage when they actually wanted garbage + a game.

Next thursday, i preordered movie tickets. Since it´s a movie i´m quite looking forward too, i even payd a little bit extra for 3d and thunderbox seats, and i always buy a large bowl of nachos and a coke there. Now imagine if i get to sit in my comfy chair, eat my nachos and when the movie starts, sombody throws me out because i haven´t actually bought any tickets. Actually, sometimes it seems like movies go the same route. Like when the movie makes no sense, and then fans say: oh, you just should wait for a Director's Cut/Special Edition/Etc., it'll make the movie great. And then there are plot details that are revealed only in books/comics/etc., without which it's far harder to understand the plot. Granted, for now it looks like exception rather than norm. But looking at the game industry, I fear that may be in the future I won't be able to understand a film without buying five different editions and ten books.

It's simple, really; Imagine you went to buy a car, and the salesman showed you one. Imagine that he then showed you another one. It's the same model, but this one has been outfitted with the kit that you could possible want. It's nothing short of a stealth fighter on wheels. Jim, with some of these comparisons, you're leaving out the fact that some of these editions come with the "complete" ("gold," "definitive," etc.) version of the game, not just the $60 shell. So comparing ME:A's $200+60 price point to Farcry 5 leaves out the fact that Farcry comes with far more launch *and* post-launch content included. ME:A on launch was something like $80 for the Deluxe version, though I don't think it had a season pass or anything DLC-related. Just extra cosmetics and such.

The most useful collector's editions that I ever bought was the Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition. It came with a bag that I still use to this day. Persona Q because of the "soundtrack" and that 3DS case, even though I don't have the game and the system anymore. Persona 4 Dancing All Night because it had the 2 disc soundtrack and a Vita case, which I don't have the game anymore and I never had a vita when I got it, just a PSTV. I still listen to that soundtrack quite a lot. And the Persona 5 Collector's edition. I still listen to that soundtrack quite a bit as well. The only thing disappointing about that is that the handles of the bag isn't all that long. I have the Alan Wake Collector's Edition tucked away somewhere. The point is that I'm still a sucker for collector's editions, but ONLY if it proves some actual worth. I'm hoping that AtlusUSA will release information about that Persona All Star Pack which comes with Dancing Star Night and Dancing Moon Night with a download code for Dancing All Night for PS4 and a 4 Disc soundtrack. I NEED THAT SOUNDTRACK.

... Well, it doesn't really matter if one retailer is including the game or not; the publisher themselves doesn't include it in the package, which is what we're concerned about. If you'll notice, that's bundled as an "EB Exclusive" so... yeah, that's them bundling the game and the collector's edition stuff together as an exclusive thing beween EB, Microsoft, and the developer, considering the exclusive EB pre-order items, not from Microsoft to all retailers. The exception doesn't make the rule.

My online friend group constantly poke fun at one of our members because he bought a Wolfenstein: TNO collector's edition without the game. While that is of course shitty and illogical, my main gripe comes with the absurd number of editions out for digital games. I didn't realize myself it was so rampant until last week, when I decided I wanted to get into Destiny. I purchased the game as well as The Taken King expansion pack a few years ago but never actually played it. I go looking around the Microsoft store to get the 2nd expansion (Rise of Iron) but it isn't sold separately at all! You need to buy the "Complete Edition" which is still $60 and contains everything. That means people who paid $60 for Destiny at launch or $60 for The Taken King edition will need to put up ANOTHER $60 to play the latest expansion pack. Battlefield 1 is now "not sold separately" and is only available digitally as part of a bundle. None of which really get into what they contain either. What do I get in Battlefield 1 Revolution? How is it different from Battlefield 1 Digital Deluxe? If I get the Titanfall 2/Battlefield 1 Digital Deluxe Bundle do I get all content for both games? The answers are very unclear, and it discourages me from buying digital games at all. Also, I got an Xbox One bundled with the Halo 5 "collector's edition". It came with a cheap 3D figurine that they wanted you to assemble yourself and a steelbook with a digital code in it.

I would prefer this. However marketing and merchandising could easily offer a greater return than improving the game. If the company has 10 million on top of a shippable game, putting that 10 million might improve sales of the game by 20 million by making it better (maybe not even that), but if they put it into marketing/merchandising they might be making 30 million.

You market heavily for new franchises, existing ones you can rely on the existing base (assuming the predecessors formed one) to help get word out because chances are they've been waiting with plenty of hype already. Pay for a few commercials and you're good. Granted that's also assuming you keep to the spirit of the old games, which also doesn't always happen.

My favorite collectors edition is of dark souls 2. I found a copy of it in eb games for $30 and it included a 12 inch farron armor statue, cloth map of the in-game world, sound track, and a steelcase for the game. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of ds2, I still have the statue sitting on my desk next to my moniter to this day, love it so much.

Its like buying every release of Madden at this point. Product has to be fungible. That is, if 90 versions made by different people exist, people won't really care which they buy. Copyright laws combined with this condition have now turned this into a monopoly.) 2. When I bought Collectors Editions on the Gameube I got an extra disc with Master Quest on it, or a GBA link cable needed to make the most of the game, or DK Bongos to experience the bst DK game. Now in this generation I bought the Tekken 7 CE for PC to support fighting games and physical releases on PC. What I got was an ok statue, a #2 out of 4 comic featuring a classic character not playable in Tekken 7 and a steelcase with a plastic card inside. On that was a steamkey that did not even allow me to seperate the gam and the seasonspass. Mind that Bamco still advertised that version with a PC DCDROM symbol even 1 week after release.

With the multiple collectors editions from the same game that offer different things, I've before made comment to a friend that maybe some companies should offer an a la carte menu on their website. I specifically mentioned this about Ubisoft, but it can apply to any of the pubs really. Some offer different statues in different editions, however some people love collecting these things, and it would be a better offering for them if they could put together their own collectors crap, pick and choose what pieces they want, etc. It might sell less soundtracks and artbooks, but it'd get their web stores more traffic - which for them, cuts out the middle man of the profits.

I don’t watch trailers, I don’t tend to buy a game the moment it comes out but wait a few months so maybe it’s just me. However I do think it’s a lot better then people give it credit for. The story is pretty solid, the combat is really versatile, and the characters are all well written. I think if it came out not being a total mess the consensus would be very different.

Its hard for me to judge since I don't how it was when it came out but I've played it 4 times to completion now each with uniquely designed characters so I'd say its more then adequate in its current state. And just so you know I'm extremely particular in how I design my characters. The starting faces aren't great but they can be tweaked. Animation wise, the game is still a little awkward, Addison's animation is some of the worst, but if you can look past it I think you might find a pretty good game.

All I really want in a collector’s edition is a steel book (that’s not empty and has the game in it) and some minor trinkets like a key chain or poster or stickers. The Shadow of the Colossus remaster Special Edition was right up my alley, and I bought it for less than asking price because there was some discount on Walmart about 2 weeks before release. Nowadays, the special edition, which includes a steel book (with game) some stickers, an art book, and some DLC cost $120 on Amazon last I checked, which is a little more than twice what they originally charged. Dodged a very expensive bullet there.

Man I hear you on the "Buying too much garbage even though I've already got too much garbage" thing. I swear I picture my ghost ending up chained Jacob Marley-style to Special Edition books, games, DVDs etc.
