Just when I think there'll never be a version better than all the others, Bob pulls this one out of the blue! The expression in his voice is really beautiful! Still the greatest songwriter, poet and performer of our time.

@@gerrycurran8966 Hi Gerry, I completely agree, a genius because Bob has written/performed more brilliant songs than anyone I can think of. There aren't enough words to describe him! Happy New Year Gerry, Bob + all Dylan fans!

Wow Wow Wow! thanks so much for adding this. I was at this show. It was superb and this was a real gem a change in the set list at a different venue from the night before. I can still see Bob moving over to Tony and Donnie having a nervous looking conversation. I wish there was video as you could see a change was to come. Bob then sits back down at the piano to produce gem this not played for some time before.!! One of the absolute highlights of my 30+ shows back to 1978.

It is different at the show. There was so much energy in the crowd a this smaller venue!!! We all paid our money so we are entitled to enjoy what was a real gem. I listen to many Bob shows you can feel the room listening to the crowd. Enjoy the artist at work!!

Beautiful rendition of a song I barely like! That’s right! Stand down! ✋ I mean the melody is beautiful and the poetry of words seem so brilliant and they are brilliant but it is not by any means as meaningful as most of Bob’s other songs! This song is not transformative in a positive way! It is shallow of heart and more cerebral. Cleverly constructed words of a mind tortured and desperate, not elevated! It does not really speak of love at all it speaks of obsession and self pity. I don’t see love in this song at all. Most women love this song because they are so self absorbed they want to be Johanna and they like the idea of someone being tortured over them which is not live but pure vanity! Men like this song… I don’t really know why men like this song unless it is how melodically beautiful it is? They must like it for more than that though? 🤔 Perhaps it’s because it feeds that age old dream; the quest for something beautiful! This song stokes that desire; pass the bottle of self pity. Bob has much more potent songs of love, real love but it is not where it’s obvious! This song is not about love at all it is about cynicism! Having said that, thanks Jinal007 I love the way Bob sang this and played the piano. (A Grand?) If anyone wishes to have a fit over what I have said, then go find your tribe because I’m not interested! It’s just my opinion so deal with it!

It's such a beautiful poetic song. It's my absolute favorite. Listen again closely.
@yesnope69753 жыл бұрын
@@lesliescott2362 I doubt that her undivided attention is the gatekey to unlocking a sudden love for the composition and that's okay. My recently deceased cat Johanna was named after this song, as you've probably guessed. Acid trip of a lyric and some of his best one liner's to any song but I concur- Never a favorite of mine either. It's actually one that I skip over most on BoB as well as bootlegs depending on the tour. I understand the cult following of this song but give me One of Us Must Know or Sad Eyed Lady over Visions of Johanna anyday.

Could well do without this indulgent, recurrent background whooping. Super musical accompaniment.
