I love playing Jing Yuan. In a turn-based game, if all I do was to press two buttons alternately, I'd be bored fast. Managing the stacks & skill point allocation among the team gives me "things to do" during combat - you may not have precise control over where lightening lord's hits go, but that's fitting as how I see being a general (which Jing Yuan is) can be

Idk, what I find really funny in Simulated Universe specifically is to go with that Elation buff that when upgraded guarantees you get a skill point upon unleashing a follow-up attack or that Corrupted Code Curio that when fixed gives 2 skill points per a normal attack. Also, I kind of use Clara for my teams, anyway, so in those 2 scenarios or a mixture of both I effectively may almost never run out of skill points.

But at the end, both Jing and Wolf will ended up rerunning again in near future and faster than characters like Kafka or Fu Xuan so yeah, go with your heart.

I regret getting him as f2p. I wish I failed the 50/50 then got Gepard or Bailu, they are more useful. The fact that he can get stunned or your team can take significant damage before his follow up even hits once is just lame to me, and it doesnt even do a lot of damage, strictly need his lightcone.

Actually, you're definitely building him wrong if he doesn't do dmg as f2p. I'm using s1 of the world's clamor, which is free and he's sweeping. Sounds like a you problem tbh.

Clara is the most skill point efficient character. Most of her damage comes from counters, when she is hit, or counters when anyone is hit during her ultimate _(which does high AoE damage)_ - she also has an all enemies AoE skill that's very good too, but obviously that takes a skill point. Most of the time though, you're just basic attacking with her, and letting her counter.

I like this video, it's very honest on both fronts. But I think it would also help to mention that alot of Jing Yuan's weaknesses are lessened by pairing him with Tingyun. She was pretty much made for him, as the rateup implies. Skill management is almost perfect, him needing to ougi often is satisfied, his low Eridition damage is increased. In comparison I have Seele and if she doesn't one shot an enemy she pretty much wastes a skill and a turn lol. Not to mention, her skill hungry partner Bronya. I appreciate 5*s having flaws though, it makes 4*s feel like they have proper roles to accommodate them

especially compared to serval. despite jing having obviously higher dmg than serval, serval is probably one of the best lightning breaker and the most reliable stream of dps in the game. easy spammable source of aoe high bar break (skill and ult), and also constant shock dps and talent extra dmg. ofc, serval has her own struggles, esp against solo bosses, but she doesnt lose out compared to jing.

The fact that you put Jing higher than Seele on the skill point reliance graph is baffling to me. Seele chews through your skill points as fast as an unlucky Qingque. I run him with Tingyun and I literally never run out of skill points in his team.

You can still use her normals and trigger resurgence so the next skill would basically be 0 cost

You can play Seele as neutral SP unit while for Jing Yuan you always want to use the skill whenever he gets the turn

I somehow ended up with an E1 Bronya and her LC and therefore skill points are not an issue for me at all (her LC restores a skill point every other ult and her E1 gives her a 50% chance to restore a skill point back when she's using her skill) but I can say he eats up less skill points for me as of now. At least that's how it feels. Seele needs more when she one-shots an enemy with her skill, vets resurgence, then Bronya gives her 1 more turn, then resurgence again and ult and resurgence.... I have to use her normals. With Jing Yuan I sometimes use his normals, but very rarely, and Gepard and Natasha use their normals to restore skill points sometimes

Its understandable tbh because JY really really relies on his stand and to make his stand powerful he need more skill for stacks. Seele on the other hand can just kill normal minions with basic attack and still gets her passive. Not to mention she can take as many turn she want and it will still count as 1 turn and the buffs will not run out as long as she can take turn from her passive. Basically her basic attack is buffed and will most probably 1 shot enemy and she get another turn and still have the buff

I started playing this game because I'm an Ayato main and thus need Luocha. But Luocha is a healer, so I needed a DPS thus I pulled for Jing Yuan (because I prefer AOE over single target). Now I find out that Jing Yuan likes boba like Ayato does! It's fate. :D

Akira Ishida is amaizing. Athrun from Gundam Seed and Gaara from Naruto are the most memorable characters for me, which he voiced. I pulled Ayato because of this voice actor, so hearing him again in HSR is tempting reason to pull for Luocha) I main Ayato for all the content in the Genshin since his release.

Regarding your point about Jing Yuan losing out DPS by using basic attack, Yanqing also has the same problem since his skill activates his talent that gives a good of chunk crit rate and crit damage for only 1 turn, using a basic attack doesn't refresh the buff leading to a decent drop in damage.

For some reason if you have 0 SP and it's yanqings turn but u have ult use basic attack and immediately ult while he's in the animation of his basic attack, then his talent will last another turn, idk why that happens but it's a good thing to know when your in a situation like that, it doesn't happen all the time but if it does you'll be thankful to know this

I'm loving Jing yuan, I got extremely lucky and I have bronya with her weapon and I can get him to 10 stacks 3 turns in a row and only have one cooldown turn. He does insane single target damage, 50-70k with his best team (Bornya and Tingyun both e0) on his follow-up attack alone.

Gepard, one of the most desired 5 stars, has a huge flaw of being REALLY slow which is an issue when he needs energy to provide his selling point of big shields. He is still amazing. 5 stars should still have flaws, and I imagine the flaws of even Seele will become apparent in the future. Coming from Genshin, the mobs at the final floors of abyss literally shape the meta, like Venti falling out of favour. If one period we got a bunch of enemies that don’t hit as hard but are more tanky, I wonder how useful Seele would be.

Well, we gotta thank the simplistic gameplay of Honkai Star Rail. Thankfully, every single character will work, albeit with flaws. In Genshin, if it doesn't work, then it won't likely work for the majority of teamcomp because Genshin is a lot harder and has deeper mechanic.

This is a very interesting and unique perspective on Jing Yuan because many meta players coming from the final beta have been saying since day one that he is the best dps everyone must pull. Also most players are currently at a place in the game where a 5 star dps like Jing Yuan or Seele cuts through content better than any other character regardless of their potential weaknesses

I think he has his uses. High AOE damage is useful in progression and farming. For bosses I can reliably break out my Seele to dish the insane ST damage I need to nuke anything regardless of weakness break. I can totally see them "buffing" erudition chars later on by making more SU levels and/or Memories features 3-4 boss enemies in a wave where spreading damage becomes more necessary.

I am going to have to disagree, Jing doesn't have any weakness break issues, he nukes stragglers far too quickly and then can focus all his breaking in a single character, he isn't going to break charts on that end but he can still nuke bosses far better than many carries. Tingyun is all you really need to make him work and free up skill points for the rest of the team, and with proper investment he can single handedly carry all AOE and single target by himself, I suppose your criticism comes from the fact he isn't designed around being a flexible piece along with another sub dps like with Seele working either way but being far better with Bronya. He singlehandedly makes MoC far easier, so he is not niche, and he really doesn't need new stuff to be better or fix his issues because the issues you described are incorrect in practice if you put did the right amount of investment into him, perhaps you didn't get his light cone, enough crit rate or gotten E1 to see what I mean personally. A future where he gets better is unnecessary because he already has everything he needs, his energy needs, such as energy link rope, putting him left of your tank to receive splash damage to get more energy and figuring how your team will handle the skill point economy around it (again just pair him with Tingyun it isn't rocket science), once all that is said and done you can upkeep high Lenny stacks and see him go to town and E1 alone doubles splash damage setting the bar for erudition as a whole.

I wound up pulling on his banner, but I wasn't aiming for him - I'd still yet to acquire Tingyun, and her rate-up in his banner was incredibly tempting. My plan was to build pity for the 1.2 banners (mainly Silver Wolf) and bail once I picked up Tingyun. Naturally, this means I got my first Tingyun on the same 10-pull that gave me Jing Yuan. Womp womp! XD Oh well, I'm not upset that I have him - I do like collecting characters after all. I'm just worried that Silver Wolf will wind up giving me as much trouble as Seele did, and the pity reset does not assuage that concern.

Great video! I lost my 50/50 to Himeko so I haven't been able to test Jing, but I agree with most/all of the points made here, although I do have one thing to say- Arlan is not skill point reliant AT ALL. While he does (almost) always want to use his skill, his skill consumes HP instead of Skill Points (it should be pretty easy to keep him alive if your shielder is built well enough tbh), so he does not every actually use skill points in battle. It could just be the wording of the graph, but it's something I noticed

Wanna know the craziest summoning session? I usually only summon on Standard and from that place I got a Yanqing (Beginner) and a Bronya dupe. Yes, I said dupe. Because when I summoned on limited banner I literally had the worst luck until I reached 80 pity. Then Seele came home. You'd think that's where the story would end but no. Later but a little before I got to Lv35 I did another 10 pull...and it turned gold. 😮 And it was Bronya...not the dupe that I got after that on Standard with the Lv35 stuff. But Bronya on Jing Yuan banner. Then I did some grinding and ended up with 1600 jade. Then I was like "Sure why not? Might as well increase my pity a bit!" Then its GOLD. AGAAAAAAAIN? And Jing Yuan came home. Those were 30 pulls in total.

Silver Wolf doesn't fully break the rules of the game as innate resistances still play a huge role but I think its undeniable that if you wanted to give a character more chances to be useful in end game content, Silver Wolf's weakness application does just that. Sucks she can apply her own element though.

In a turn based you want dps characters to work for different types of encounters, its what spices things up. If you only play one unit that decimates anything you will eventually get bored after a while. Jing Yuan's LL is a situational but powerful mechanic in its intended scenarios, I like it. Im calling it, this game will have counters against speed characters sooner or later, or enemies that turn character buffs into debuffs. When that happens Seele will stop being so universal. We are still in 1.0. folks.

I played since day 1 and saved ALL my wishes on my main and didnt pull until Jing Yuans banner. i did get him and Bronya! Bronya is great at helping him getting to add more stacks but you dont need to worry about trying to get Bronya if you dont have her. I did managed to get him early on my reroll acc pulling for Tingyun and that account doesnt have Bronya. I just do my best to build up skill points and it becomes rewarding when his lightning lord hits hard when you play the hitd right!

Seems like Bronya has relatively poor synergy with Jing, since it's impossible to boost his lighting lord damage with her skill. That doesn't mean they are bad together, just that other characters, like Seele or Yanquing, benefit from Bronya more. So Bronya will usually end up on your second team on memory of chaos. Also, Jing has fantastic synergy with Tingyun, since she fixes his energy problems and can use the "Planetary Rendezvous" LC. So, if you are going for a single Harmony comp, she is usually the one you want. Having said that... If you are going for a hypercarry comp with two harmony characters and only one defensive support, Bronya + Tingyun seems to be the best option. (Although Asta + Tingyun works too.) (Also, Tingyun's auto AI is kinda stupid, so Bronya might be a better optionon auto. ^^;)

I, too, saved everything for Jing Yuan and got him & his light cone. Glad I did. He's just amazing. Unless you were so unlucky not to get any Tingyun while getting Jing Yuan, everyone should run Tingyun with JY. She's a better match to JY than Bronya. I have her equipped with S3 Planetary Rendezvous light cone which gives 18% boost to lightening dmg for the whole team. I wouldn't even say he has a flaw, more like a quirk - the one which is quite fun to work around. Well if there _is_ one flaw, perhaps the fact he may not be best suited to auto-play. That said, I only auto for easy fights so it doesn't matter much.

Fun fact (since u haven’t built Arlan, he’s my fav) he uses no skill points when using his skills so he’s good to slap on with skill hungry characters (i have him alot with Seele). Though he doesn’t regenerate any skill points when using the skill, so he’s a good second dps.

@@midzimidzi471 It's probably thanks to SR being turn based, any characters can function well enough no matter how low tier they are. Herta is one of the example, people put her in low tier but she still find her use for farming especially. In Genshin, characters not only have to deal with damage but also real time duration, team rotation, positioning, elemental application, and skills order. That's why I always emphasize that do not compare Genshin with SR coz designing characters in Genshin involves integrating deeper mechanic than the traditional turn based game SR. That's why when characters don't work in Genshin, people are less inclined to use them because they are tied to different archetype in the game.

i like jing yuans play style and what he brings but yeah his flaws are very glaring. he does surprisingly well single target because of LL but still needs the skill points to build up his damage. bronyas pretty much unusable because her skill's damage buff won't carry to LL at all, not to mention bronya's a very sp hungry support. also something that happens a lot is that the LL's speed ends up being boosted and its action gets put ahead of JY, so he loses out on being able to apply more stacks unless he can burst. a lot of the time hes probably going to be doing 5 hits and thats it unless you have a speed booster like asta on the plus side though, if you lose out on LL's turn bc JY is debuffed with something like imprisonment, he doesn't actually lose any of the LL stacks! so you get another chance to build more stacks

Tingyun and Jing Yuan are made for each other. Unlike Bronya's, Tingyun's buffs stay longer and cover LL. Her ult giving 50 energy also is a nice bonus. My team so far is Jing Yuan, Tingyun, Bailu / Natasha +flex. For flex I use fire trailblazer most, but also used Asta, March, Pela as well. Without Asta I still can build up 7 to 10 stacks usually - most typically, 8 and 10 stacks on alternate turn. LL gets Tingyun skill buff every turn and her ult buff on top of that every other turn. Thing to remember is the order in which you use their skills & ults for optimal energy efficiency - like use Jing's ult _before_ his skill / Tingyun's ult if his ult is already fully charged.

Because Eru path as opposed to Hunt, promoted as AOE dps. They probably think, the loss of damage can be made up with spreading the damage to all enemies. Which is why, the hunt DPS is good, yeah it is strictly single target but your damage is concentrated to one enemies even for mobs, it is a lot faster to focus defeating one enemy quickly rather than spreading the whole damage but is a lot slower.

Personally I feel like Erudition is still someone lacking in terms of use cases. Right now the main focus of most bosses still lie with single-target damage. At least for me Hunt characters are good for 1 or 2 units then falling off with 3 onwards where Erudition then comes in. But the thing is it may not even matter because Hunt characters can just one shot some enemies or just focus on the boss that spawned them to kill the other supporting enemy units. In my case I have Seele and well any clip online can tell you she can act so many times that she basically becomes a pseudo-Erudition unit. And even if you don't have Seele it's still somewhat straightforward to pick off units one by one with other Hunt units like Dan Heng and Sushang The only time I felt like Erudition can work was with that fight with the Ambrosial Arbor Deer thing that kept spawning new roots. Sure Erudition supposedly finds use in farming but you're better off building characters that can both farm and clear content rather than just farming only because resources in the early game are still limited. So maybe more content in the future leaves us with enemy units that exceed what a hunt character can do (maybe something like 5 to 7 different enemies). Then again it can also be just a difference in approach of how exactly to clear enemies. You can either slowly wither down everyone's health but risk having more units acting against you (sounds like electro-charged) or you take them down one by one but it takes longer to actually take everyone out (sounds like vaporize/melt or catalyze).

I don't have Seele, so I've been using Dan Heng / Sushang instead. I found them good enough, but they aren't Seele and they certainly can't become pseudo-Erudition. They will take longer and as such are more at risk of getting hit / killed. Then I got Jing Yuan. It certainly felt like I'd unlocked "easy mode" even in fights against 1 or 2 enemies or bosses. Since most of his damage comes from the lightening lord and typically, you can have it hit 7-10 times. When you are facing only one enemy, all of the hits are on that one unit - Jing Yuan practically becomes a pseudo-Hunt.

I do not like him that much as a character, but his gameplay definitely synergizes with my brain. My first two 5-stars were Himeko, who is practically a worse version of Jing Yuan. I got all the characters i needed to buff her, stay alive and have a constant flow of skill points to feed her EVERY turn. I did not care about element vulnerability drone skill and just bullshit my way through any enemy without ever losing. It's like my team is just waiting for this man to take his righteous place! The problem being of course that the conditions for Seele is completely asinine. Wether she gets resurgence or bot her damage is insane and focused on 1 unit which is better than spreading it out in 99% of the cases. Even when fighting 2 bosses it's better to burst 1 down with Seele and half the enemies dps and utility than it is damaging both equally and getting the full brunt of their attacks for the entire duration of the fight. The only way to make Jimg Yuan better than Seele is to introduce twin boss with a revenge mechanic where killing one before the other buffs the remaining one or making them able to revive each other unless they die In 1 turn of each other.

Great video, I'm happy to see another Qinque enjoyer. Since I've unlocked him, I've felt similar things. He's very fun, and of the shock characters I would say he's my favorite. If the boss has shock weakness, I bring him out. But in most other scenarios, he's a bit of a hinderance to everyone else on the team. I figured he'd be better at toughness breaking, but in my experience he's no better than Serval. Regardless, I'll keep building him just to flex on my gf (she hasn't pulled him lmao)

No different than Seele really. All the best damage comes from overuse in skill points. You need to form a team around managing those skill points regardless of using F2P characters or not though. Definitely needs to build some effect resist though. But having good taunts helps too. Gepard is best as he doesn't need skill points to taunt.

Massive difference actually, Seele can be skill point neutral and you can finish of enemies using basic attacks when applicable to save the occasional one. Jing Yuan needs to use his skill or you don't get stack and LL us more than halve his dps and much of his crit rate and damage is locked behind its stacks. You can't ever use his basic attacks at all if you want to get anything out of him.

so far when it comes to free to play. Endgame stuff is definitely not free to play since you can basically only do 2 full 60 point fights a day just to get your materials. It's a lot harder to get materials for your level 70 characters in one day. So far i have spent about 12 hours just trying to max jings traces and finding best in slot relics that are appropriate for him. So in summary late end game content is defintely not free to play if youre looking to play a lot. The simulated universe is fun and free but gets stale over time especially when you finish the weekly loot it gives.

Genshin Impact is literally fully clearable as an f2p with a mid build, except the Abyss. There is no reason to expect that HSR will be any different. Moreover, Similated Universe, one of the difficult “end game” modes, already has a team-wide cleanse lol (abundance resonance)
