They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. The song was written about the fighting that started in 2014. Sadly, it still applies today. It's on the 2019 Macro album

nothing has changed since 2014, except that Russia started more active hostilities and began to openly use its troops, instead of talking about miners who dug up piles and tanks from mines.

Good reaction. The song is about their first refugee experience imagined through the eyes of an innocent child. The tea party is a child's tea party. The straw figures are from an Ukrainian children's story. The beat has a lot of dissonance to represent the confusion a child would have trying to make sense of what is happening to her world. In the end every sweet and innocent thing becomes horrible and destroyed. Yes, she is pissed. We all should be.

The precursor to this song for what its worth is a song called "Bad Water" which is about the environmental impact of the chemical plant and coal mines that have been leeching into the water system there for years (and just environmental disaster in general and humanity's role in it) and the sister song to this is "Retrospection" which is an homage to their parents and their former lives

Jinjer (except for Vlad who is from Zaporizhzhia and later Kyiv) in all of its lineups are from a little city called Gorlivka. Gorlivka, Ukraine is pretty much ground zero for what is going on over there and has been for quite some time
