“You’re not as into this as I want you to be, and I’m kind of offended.” That’s me every time I share music I love with someone and they don’t like it. It feels very personal. So I’ve kinda stopped sharing with people I know personally. I keep all the good music to myself. I think that’s why I enjoy music reaction channels so much. It’s sharing something you love with a stranger in the hopes that they’ll love it too. Maybe your sister just won’t ever get into rock and metal. Some people never do. My daughter is 14 and has been hearing metal since she was born both from her dad and from me. She still hates it (except for Twelve Foot Ninja). It just isn’t for everyone. What a kind thing to do for your dad, by the way. 😊

Great job girls, waited and watched your dad first reacting to this LOL 😆. Niah, it makes me smile inside and warms my heart seeing you expand your music horizon. I'm white but grew up as a minority in my neighborhood. Thankful for that everyday, was a street dancer but had some emotional issues. Music saved me, I learned that no matter the type of music, all good music spoke to me. Have always listened to everything, and I love them all. I may not like a certain song or group, but know not to judge an entire genre based on that. There are so many talented groups and artists of all kinds. So keep exploring and expanding your mind. You guys give me hope for the future. 💖😄

I Speak Astronomy has so many wonderful elements to it. It really showcases the bands musical talent as well as the theatrical aspect of the band. That final 2 minutes though always blows me away. This was the second Jinjer song I ever heard way back, but it was the one that solidified my love for the band. I'm a huge sucker for 'Space themed' music, so I'll throw 2 space themed requests towards you guys! 30 Seconds to Mars - Capricorn Starset - Manifest

"Is it over"? Lol. Be patient with her big sister. It's been my experience and probably your father's experience that people progressively diversify their music taste as they age. That isn't to say that your younger sister will ever necessarily be into Jinjer. It could also be that they are a pretty heavy start to rock. Some other very good starter groups to work her into rock might be Rage Against the Machine Soundgarden Tool Sublime Highly Suspect Try to look at it as if she has just been asked to eat a steak that for her might be "overly seasoned", and sometime down the road she may just acquire The Taste. Very cool idea on the Father's Day reaction.

Go to a Jinjer concert! I saw them in Phoenix I took my kids. Jinjer was awesome! I saw people there rocking out from 21 to 70, I saw many different skin tones as well. Regardless of your background or age if it is music you like, it's music you like. What other people think does not matter. Like or dislike it's OK. Music is art, and like all art it is subjective to each individual. Rock on, and be the best you can be.

I think this is the reason because much people does not accept this kind of music, because much of us grows slowly with the genre and then learn to love it, but other people hears the music we listen right now and feels like a smash in their faces, i think all people could love the music if they grow slowly step by step, may be with "Pisces" song because that song makes you put attention and connect with music first and when you are connected then the Smash come over but now you're trapped with the peaceful piece of the first part of the song and it makes ask yourself "and now... whats next?"... I think is just thing of different tastes

I love Jinjer’s vocals, but back when I was a wee metalhead, I wasn’t initially into growls as much either. But just to put this out there, one thing that helped me a bit to accustomed to growls was to think of growling not as a type of vocals but as its own instrument within the band. 5:40 - And just to add, it’s okay to be scared! But maybe that’s part of the fun too? Like, you know how you get that exhilaration from watching a horror movie? I get some of that feeling with Jinjer too (and I like it!).

Bad Water is their only full length song without growls. The under 3-minute outro track Beggar's Dance is great too though there isn't a video. Bad Water isn't as dynamic as most of their songs but has really poetic lyrics about pollution. I'd also suggest Rage of Light's "Fallen" or Ad Infinitum "Marching on Versailles" - same singer Melissa Bonny in both bands. I kinda think of Evanescence with growls, but not quite as intense as Tatiana's.

1. She is not growling AT you 2. It's not growling :) 3. If you are not familiar with this type of music, read the damn lyrics, doing that can change the meaning of a song 100% (I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH) 4. You said you would not see this band live?! Think again! I've been a metalhean for 20+ years and this is one IF NOT THE BEST bands I've seen live!!! 6. Liten to more Jinjer, it's the most exciting band in metal as we speak!

I honestly get offended when people don’t get my music as well lol. I have to remind myself that this is so far removed from what they normally listen to that it is a shock. There is so much going on at once that it’s hard for them to understand what’s happening musically. They’re use to basic, more simplistic music. It takes some adjusting but eventually they’re ears get acclimated to it over time if they keep an open mind. Being a musician does help break those barriers quicker.

Don't think of it as "yelling", especially not towards the listener (and of course she does not look at you either, she's not even seeing you guys :D). Think of it like you might think about adding distortion to guitars and other electric instruments to make them sound differently too. Didn't you do something with music, I thought I remembered you guys mentioning something in one of your videos? I think this could mean that you have a much more trained ear, compared to her, and your brain can make more sense of what it is hearing when it is facing "busy" music like Jinjers (especially since they play on such a high technical level). I struggled with some of their harder songs too when I first listened to them, and for the first time I understood what people mean when they say that "metal is just noise". But dissecting and focusing on individual parts eventually trained my brain to make sense of it too, which I think is something she is missing at this point in time. Add to that the potential stereotype of metal within the states, especially among black communities, and you have a pretty typical defensive reaction towards the music. I think you and your dad would probably enjoy the band "Gojira" too. Start with something like "The Gift of Guilt (Live at Brixton Academy, London)", "le ́efant sauvage", "Silvera" or "Stranded", for some of the more accessible ones.

great, now your sis has nightmares... I see how you can take it personally being growled at lol... harsher vocals are an acquired taste and throwing in someone to the deep end is never easy. I played some Funeral Doom to my dad once and he liked the music but was like "Why do the singer has to scream at me, I didnt do anything to him". I then explained to him to regard it as another instrument or story telling device, like if the song tells a story the mellow voice is the good guy, the hero and the growl voice the monster or the villain or whatever. Makes sense for some songs, for others, not so much. Its cool if she doesnt like it, I gave up on sharing "my music" to my sisters, my parents or my friends and accept theirs, they accept mine and we call it a day lol. On the flipside, you will never see us on a concert together, maybe if we all agree on an artist we all like, but there are just a few.
