Fun reaction and good analysis - almost nobody gets that she's making a perennial joke at the beginning when she says "see you next time." Good analysis of the lyrics. There is a double meaning because she struggles with chronic depression that gets worse in the winter causing suicidal feelings. I feel like she's reminding herself that the spring will come again and she can make it through the winter. I totally look forward to Who Is Gonna Be The One. It is much harder than this. Perennial, Pisces, and I Speak Astronomy are kinda similar in overall hardness, with Pisces having more extremes, Perennial being more consistently mellow but obviously a range, and I Speak Astronomy having harder music but less growling - great belting though, and the official video is beautiful. Cheers!

@@StickDastardly , in my opinion, the judgment and punishment-vocal one take video, is fun and it is impressive, but is still kind of a show thing. The live video of Judgment and punishment from Melbourne, on the other hand... In that you get the whole band doing their thing, and not just Tatiana. She is impressive as fuck, but the other dudes are also really really good, and should be apreciated.

The crowd was definitely exhausted. It was the third day of the festival, so they'd been drinking and moshing for days by then.

@FalconFlurry4 жыл бұрын
This song does have a double meaning, she uses the cycle of the seasons, particularly that of a perennial flower as a metaphor to describe her seasonal depression. So yeah it's not about suicide, but rather it's about her feeling like she's dying when the seasons change to winter, then coming back to life in the spring. Also, I believe Jinjer was the stage opener for Wacken, they played at 11am, so if the audience was exhausted already I guess they ruined them for the rest of the festival, haha
@StickDastardly4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, someone explained the seasonal depression analogy to me in another thread. I totally understand those feelings. I touch on that a little on tomorrow's video. That poor audience had one hell of a recovery ahead of them after that fest! Hahaha

From what you said, your taste is for more brutal / kick ass song and yes Jinjer has some for you. Already mensionned, Pit of consiousness at Kiev (home town of Tatiana) should be on your list. Also Stay sit roll over (older, different drummer) official video should be fine too. Few tips to understand Jinjer : You mentionned here and there that the soft verse part are not your stuff. Know that Tatiana Shmayluk is the singner and also lirics writer, so it is natural to see her really connected when she sing her own words. In interviews they said like to have soft part (in contrast of the more hard one) and blending gender. Their musical taste include a variety of style. If you explore more Jinjer you will find rap, reagae, jazzy, etc. Tatiana have a tatoo of Amy Winehouse covering an entire forearm. She said feeling soulmate with her and Amy is not her only jazz inspiration. But they also have more metal influences. All members said that Opeth is a major influence. So Jinjer is a rabit hole and if you dig in you should find something you will like.
@StickDastardly4 жыл бұрын
I don't dislike softer music, in general. I just didn't like the softer parts of Pisces as much as the softer parts in this one. I should've been more clear, there. But, yeah, I can definitely tell they come from a huge range of influences and I'm looking forward to the future of this journey that is Jinjer!

Love that you referenced Dimmu. One of the best bands ever. Have you heard any of the extreme deathcore groups, such as Slaughter to Prevail or Infant Annihilator. Not quite sure they'd be your thing. When I discovered Jinjer earlier this year, they got me completely back on the metal train. I'm about 50% Jinjer and 50% extreme deathcore these days. What draws me to the extreme deathcore is that it's very hard to find more technically skilled musicians, most particularly the drummers. If interested, try these two. One is unmatched in brutality and the other has unmatched attitude. Infant Annihilator-Blasphemian Slaughter to Prevail- Agony

8:50 - Ok, just to put some perspective on the crowd's behavior: - This was at around 11 am, on a secondary stage. - Jinjer's set was cut short due to stage gear issues before they started, they played less than 30 minutes. That said and I'm not taking anything away from Jinjer's performance (they always give 200%, no matter how long they play), the crowd looked exhausted because they probably didn't sleep much the previous night (if they even slept at all) just to be there so early in the morning to watch Jinjer. And look how many were there! No wonder Tatiana said what she said at the end about the crowd. : )
