I love I Speak Astronomy, but I have trouble comparing Jinjer songs to each other. They all have fantastic energy, but there's so much variety that's it's like different kinds of energy and I love that. Someone else said, "my favorite Jinjer song is whichever one is playing at the moment" and I couldn't agree more! Thank you, Rusty, as always, for bringing more of the fantastic music of Jinjer to more people! ❤🖤🤘

I second this suggestion. Roman's chord choices are so out there, he's like Alex Lifeson on crack. Or like fusion guitarist Allan Holdsworth. Especially during the "melodic" middle eight part, you see the playthrough and you're like "THAT'S what he's playing?! No way! Those chords are CRAZY!" Then you start to wonder how in the hell Tatiana came up with her vocal parts over that. The vocal line is often what brings the whole thing together. It's kinda magical really.
@hemlock399

@@ericpeterson7512 100%. The rhythms and dissonance in the usual composition of so many of their songs make Tatiana's job incredibly difficult, but she somehow pulls it off!

the 2019 Wacken show is known as a problem set -- the engineer just couldn't get anything to work properly, and they couldn't get it together until _Perennial_ , which turned out absolutely perfect. having seen this song live, i can affirmatively say that this one plays better at night/indoors , due to how effective the lighting can be in dramatically adding to the performance ... _especially_ on that drop to the outro (for me, it's the highlight of the set). trivia note: i've read that this song has been played more times live than any other song in their catalog. (can not confirm ; just passing it along) and yes, this is from _King of Everything_ ... i believe i've made mention to you previously that it is indeed a transitional album ; and this is one of the songs that really highlight that. for further recommendations ... from this album, i really like _Just Another_ for older: i'm a huge sucker for _Cloud Factory_ , _Outlander_ , and _No Hoard of Value_ my fav newer ones: _Home Back_ , _Vortex_ , _Disclosure_ , _Wallflower_ (the last 3 all being from the newest album) Wacken details: over the last 10 years, they've been hitting their capacity of 85,000 paid attendees , with 200ish bands (in a town that normally has only about 2k residence 😂). this year's sold out in 4.5 hours, at over 300-euros/ticket.

Consider that the primary way Jinjer does songs is that the guys come up with instruments, record them and then Tatiana waits until the last minute for inspiration to write the lyrics. So she has to weave all those words into whatever time signature changes they do. Most people are confused the minute something isn't 4/4 time so it's kind of her unsung talent that she can feel these things and place the lyrics.

Yeah, it was so distinctive in this track. Im enjoying it more than this the first time now, tbf. It's grown on me. Another layer to the Tatiana talent.

Middle eight. That's what that part is often called. Intro, verse, chorus, bridge, middle eight, outro. Those are the usual terms used.

You're on the right track, with the lost in space. Written about a search for her soulmate, whom she thinks may be in another dimension, calling out to him. Tati has since gotten married, to Alex Lopez (current P.O.D. touring drummer). Yep, King of Everything, same record as Pisces, 2nd album. Recorded in 2016, Vlad replaced Dmitriy Kim on drums later that year. Another comment already mentioned that in the Wacken 2019 set the audio guys had issues. They were first on at like 11 a.m., which probably has a lot to do with the crowd size in this video. Started late because of those issues, and played as much of the set as remaining time allowed when they did finally get on. Home Back or Vortex would be my suggestion for next Jinjer. Killswitch Engage huh? Another of the symphonic rock/metal bands is called "Within Temptation", been around as long as Nightwish. One of the many collaborations they have done over the years is a song called "Dangerous" feat former K.E. vocalist Howard Jones.
@RustySabita
@RustySabita 4 ай бұрын
The stage issue must have been really frustrating. Play all these badass tracks and the crowd probably thinking you're flat as hell. Howard was on one of their tracks? I know Within Temptatation, I listened to a few of their songs, but I never knew that. I love that ever of KSE with Howard on vocals. I'll have to check that out.

The reason the riff in the first two verses of I Speak Astronomy throws you is that, not only is it three bars of 6/8, 7/8 and 6/8 respectively, but the last bar is split into four one and a half beat intervals.

Iris Goessens with Spoil Engine 2015-2022, The Agonist with Vicky Psarakis, now has a new band Sicksense. The Charm the Fury 2010-2018 they broke up. Blind Ivy, 5rand, Among Your Gods, Infected Rain, Kassogtha, Monochromatic Black, Once Human & Vintersea. Other female fronted metal bands I know Ad Infinitum, Ankor, Arch Enemy, Butcher Babies, Conquer Divide, Crypta, Ignea, Entheos, Fallcie, Frantic Amber, Nervosa, Stellvris, Stitched Up Heart, Synlakross, The Anchor, Venom Prison, Vexed, Walls of Jericho. Also check out Future Palace - Malphas, along with new band Gore., who only have two songs out. But my favorite other than Jinjer is IKINÄ from Finland. Check out their video for "Rituaali" from their recent self-titled album. The whole album is heavy, dark, melodic, and intense. The band features two badass female singer/screamers. They can sing and scream in unison, in harmony, and all combinations, twining their parts around each other. The more you listen, the more you love. I call them the heaviest melodic band in the world--or the most melodic band that's that heavy.
