"Perennial" by Jinjer is a song about the cycle of life and death. It speaks of a moment where the speaker, inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons, is saying goodbye to an old, exhausted life and looking forward to a new one. The lyrics of the song also reflect the cyclical nature of life, as death is followed by rebirth, resembling the idea that life is a circle. The song goes on to reflect on the destruction of life to make way for something new, and finally, it looks to the renewing of life from the ashes of death, acknowledging the beauty of both destruction and rebirth.

Found Jinjer Christmas Eve 2017 via a reaction. Have been my favorite band for years now. They are a force live and Tati absolutely is mesmerizing to watch. They are also super down to earth and humble. Had a good talk with Eugene about wrestling and MMA in a simple meet and greet once, way beyond what they have to do. This song is not really about suicide but they cycle of winter and the rebirth of spring. Tati is affected heavily by seasonal depression. Remember Perennial plants die is winter to grow again the next year.

It’s not a girl killing herself, it’s nature represented as female. The falling of the leaves and changing of seasons of perennials. Also metaphoric references to depression caused by seasonal affective disorder. Very well conceived and crafted lyrics, especially considering she writes them in her native language and translates to English.

Just wandering around on the Tube I bumped into their live performance 'Who is Gonna be the One'. Just trying to listen to the legendary Swedish band 'Opeth', with a frontman having a similar vocal range, I was thinking 'Not Again'. But it's all about the high level of musicianship. Jinjer is a stunning four piece unit.

This has layers. Canonically it is Tatiana singing about her chronic depression getting worse as nature dies and causing self-destructive feelings. It sounds like she wrote it to remind herself that the spring would come and she can make it through. It's totally my favorite Yule song though.

P.s. the OMV is really good too but has been overshadowed by the excellence of this performance. It's a common fate for their videos, and especially exceptional given that they don't skimp on their music videos.

It’s about what she goes through with the Autumn seasonal blues. She’s a poetical genius! Perennial being the flowers that die off and regrow in the spring.

The song is more about the season of Autumn, the death & the resurrection of natures perennials. Tatiana talked about it in a podcast interview about how so many people love Autumn but to her it seems very dark as things start to die. Pretty fascinating how she described the song. 🔥💜

As the son of a Botany Prof, this song reads like field and lab notes of the season cycle of PERENNIAL plants. Except I know that Tati also uses it tp mark depression and her subsequent 'revival of her mental state.

"Judgement and Punishment" one take vocal performance next to this, after that "Who's gonna be the one" Napalm Records official Live. Welcome! Btw Tati's poetry is straight and personal, indeed Perennial is about the seasons and her winter depressions.

Jinjer has a lot of videos on KZbin (around 30 official ones) which get a lot of views and likes on KZbin. Their first full length album (Cloud Factory) came out before they were signed to Napalm records. It was so good that Napalm re-released it and those songs are popular even now. As much music as they have out it is a little source of frustration on the behalf of fans that they aren't bigger but I don't know that it bothers the band much. Their tour schedules are pretty insane. Some bands spend months in the studio and then tour for a couple months to support the album. Jinjer spends a few weeks tops in the studio and goes on the road for 6 to 7 months. They work way too hard. The pandemic and then the war in Ukraine interrupted things for them pretty severely.

Wacken is a village of 2000 inhabitants in the north of Germany, in an agricultural and livestock environment. In 1990, the cover band Skyline was looking for performance opportunities. Because there were only a few options, they decided to create their own festival. The idea was provided by the bassist at the time and his friend, who are now the organizers. They rented a truck and set it up as a stage in a small gravel pit next to a cattle pasture. The gravel pit was already used by the local motorcycle club. This first festival was attended by around 800 people. The festival then grew steadily and today has 85,000 visitors. The cattle pasture became a hay meadow and the festival takes place there today. The village was systematically involved by the organizers. Basically, it is a village festival that is far too big and in addition to the festival visitors, there are 15,000 others who attend the supporting program in the village. Not only the organizer, but also the surrounding area benefits from the festival. Last year, when the festival site sank into the mud shortly before the start, the organizers had no problems finding farmers who spent 48 hours trying to drag as many campers as possible onto the site with their tractors. For the people in the area, the festival has become part of their culture and that is what makes the atmosphere of the festival so special. One of the villagers once said: "We look forward to the visitors coming every year. And we look forward to them disappearing again ;-)". Anyone who doesn't like the festival takes a vacation during this time and goes away - and rents out their apartment or house for the festival period: Wacken Open Air 2015 - Best of Aerial Shots There have already been weddings at the festival, an international competition for young talent is taking place, and the Wasteland Warriors have been founded (an international artist collective with costumes and vehicles from a post-apocalypse) and more: Wacken Open Air 2019 - Wasteland Warriors The festival will be streamed by Telekom Deutschland (T-Mobil, MagentaTV,...). The mainstream media in Germany reports on the festival. Skyline is the first band to play at the festival today. Their bassist was thrown out because of his lack of participation in rehearsals. Festival management and band membership could not be reconciled. But he still has guest appearances: Skyline - Live at Wacken Open Air 2023

It was the show closer, but it wasn't supposed to be. They were scheduled first on at like 11 a.m. But they went on late because the sound guys had issues. They played as much of their set as remaining time allowed. Sound was still iffy during the show, finally got it figured out, or close to it, for this last song. Wacken is a multi day metal festival, first weekend of August, held every year since 1990 (minus pandemic years), in front of 80 -85k fans. Wacken is in northern Germany, in cattle country, the venue logo is a flaming bull's head. For more from Jinjer, try "Vortex" , "Homeback", or "Teacher, Teacher". Do you want to see an example of a headliner here at Wacken? Try "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish ( Wacken 2013), "The Bard's Song/Valhalla" by Blind Guardian (Wacken 2016), or "Swedish Pagan's" by Sabaton (Wacken 2019).

Wacken is a town in Germany that has been hosting the multiple stage and multiple day metal festival for a very long time. I guess you missed Tatiana saying to the crowd: danke schein Germany. The song is not about suicide, it's about Tatiana's seasonal depression, symbolized by a plant that dies in the fall but is reborn in the spring.

I'm so used to people who find Jinjer immediately to react to Nightwish afterwords so I'll say it :P the Nightwish Army will show up in force if you react to Nightwish Live at Wacken 2013 - Ghost Love Score. Vlad sounds very jazzy. His sonic choices are a big part of that....everything is very tight, dry and dark. Snare drums cranked way up and dampened and then his choice of Zildjian K cymbals, which are darker and drier. All the ghosting on the snare adds to the jazzy feel. Add in the frequent time changes, especially with some songs having moments of swing-jazz 3/4 time and the effect of the whole band is indeed jazzy. You could do a waltz to parts of Pit of Consciousness. Seeing them live is a must.... one of the best live bands I have seen over many decades. Cheers.🤘

The Wacken Open Air Festival, is a multi-day music festival held annually in Wacken, Germany. Note: a W in German is pronounced as a V, hopefully you will learn this so that the next time you mention the name of this town, you won't sound stupid. But in the words of Forest Gump, "Stupid is and Stupid Does".

Keep in mind that when she writes her songs, she starts in Ukrainian and then translates to English. I don't know, but I wonder if that has anything to do with the beautiful poetry she's spittin.
