Finished all Four parts. Prof. Ahmed is undoubtedly Exceptional in his grasp and presentation of history of pre and post-Pakistan and Jinnah. A Must for any serious student in this area. Abbas Haider also proved himself how effectively he can dig out crux of the research and thinking from his guest. He is a young journalist but all hallmark to prove himself even more enduring and sublime in the future. Good luck!

Great Interviewer. Raised important and critical questions. I hardly have words for Prof. Ishtiaq Ahmed. His command on the subcontinent history, linking dots in logical sequences, forthrightness and making senses have changed my understanding of key figures and facts of the subcontinent history. I have to watch the rest of this series. Will try to get Prof. Ahmed magnum opus book on Jinnah.

We ( myself Victoria Miroshnik and Dipak Basu) have analyzed this issue in our book, India as an organization, published by Palgrave-Macmillan. The thesis of Ayesha Jalal was wrong. Jinnah was recruited by the British in 1934 to create a new state where the British Army could stay to protect the Middle East from the Soviet Union and the sea route between the Suez Canal and Australia. NS Sarila, who was the ADC for the last three Vice-Roys of India, wrote that in his book. There are two others who were recruited by the British: Gandhi in 1915 and Ambedkar in 1930. British supported the Muslim League wholeheartedly from the beginning in 1906. In every riot, British police took the position to support the Muslims. That was obvious in August 1946 in Calcutta, then in Noakhali, and Chittagong in East Bengal. Pakistan was created by the British and Jinnah, Gandhi, Ambedkar were the British agents. Gandhi planned Pakistan in 1943. He sent his plan to Jinnah through Rajagopalachari, but Jinnah wanted a corridor through India which Gandhi could not agree with.

Sirs, there were 3 creators of Pakistan. 1. British Crown.interested in retaining a foothold in indian subcontinent. With their experience of administering india for almost 200 years they were aware that Pakistan as a budding nation will require western help. 2. Indian muslims. Who with the trauma of defeat after 1200 years and being overwhelmingly outnumbered by hindus had an existential problem. 3.Hindus.whose basic reaction was good riddance notwithstanding the political posturing.

In Round Table Conference, Sir Zafrullah Khan said that if an Indian soldier can sacrifice his life for the protection of British Empire, he can sacrifice his life for his own country India, within the Commonwealth or without the Commonwealth. At that time Ghandi and Nehru were in Jail listening Zafrullah Khan's speech on radio. They admitted to that what they could not say in India, how dare Zafrullah Khan said in London. At this the British Govt agreed to give freedom to India, for which All Indians should be thankful.

There are allot of proof of Hindus activities that creat hate but couldn't mention because reply will become too long

Dr. Sahsb has first formed a mindset then took various pieces 9f history which may be out of context but build a narrative to complete his own picture. I am not an historian by professional and couldn't read before 47 documents but when doctor Db starts telling the history of 70s, 80s, 90s etc all his selfmade conclusion is emerged from the events we are the direct witness. From here we can easily guess about his pre Partition views. Sufficient is to say long before 40s or even 30s Sikhs and Hindus have decided they destiny , during the decline of Mughals. Time and space doesn't permit otherwise there are fundamental flaws in his theories. Britsh made Pakistan for themselves and never really favoured Pakistan till today. Buffer state only in NWWP and tried to give Ladakh, Kashmir and Gilgit to India to directly bring India and USSR close yo each other.....

Like a defence counsel, the honourable professor has set himself the task to create doubts, by ignoring the facts of history. Jinnah was a constitutional lawyer and he wanted to safeguard the interests of Muslims. It is just like buying a house or a portion of a house with certainty that you would enjoy without let or hindrance, you would certainly require, some written assurance, like registered document to your share of the house. Jinnah was just doing that, nothing more nothing less. History tells us, that he was a nationalist and an advocate for the Hindu Muslim unity. Lucknow Pact is a living example. It was not Jinnah, but Nehru, who in his first press conference after becoming the president of the Congress party, categorically stated, that the Congress party will not be bound by any agreement and everything will be decided in the Parliament. This is not a figment of my imagination, it is an historic fact. Maulana Azad, the outgoing president of the Congress party who had negotiated with Jinnah in the Cabinet Mission, had stated, that nominating Nehru to be the next president was his biggest mistake. If one were to have any doubts about Jinnah's secular and nationalist credentials should read "SECULAR AND NATIIONALIST" by Ajeet Jawed, published by Oxford press. By the way the author is not Pakistani academic, but Indian. I would like to draw the honourable professor's attention to a book "Shameful Flight and called by Stanley Wolpert. The author on page 141, states, "Suhrawardy wanted a united Bengal as a third Dominion and requested Mountbatten to sound out Jinnah with this new proposal. "Two weeks later, Mountbatten asked Jinnah what he thought of Suhrawardy's proposa to create a separate sovereign Bengal, expecting him to be shocked at his Muslim league lieutenant's "treachery" much to Mountbatten surprise, Jinnah calmly replied, "I should be delighted. What is the use of Bengal without Calcutta; they had much better remained united and independent; I'm sure they would be on friendly terms with us. And when Mountbatten added that Suharwardy said Bengal would wish to remain within the British Commonwealth. Jinnah retorted, "of course, just as I intended to you that Pakistan would wish to remain within the Commonwealth. Maryville met with Nehru on May 27 and "I asked him how he viewed and independent Bengal. He reacted strongly and said there was no chance of a of the Hindus. There agreeing to put themselves under permanent Muslim domination, which was what the proposed agreement really meant to. He did not, ruled out the possibility of the whole of Bengal, joining up with Hindustan." One cannot deny, that the British interests would indeed have liked this proposition. As they are always done, but that was no reason for Jinnah to agree to a united India without any constitutional guarantees. What has happened in Kashmir is there for everyone to see, we also know how systematically, the Muslims in India are being persecuted. Having said that, I would love to see India and Pakistan being friends and have a kind of European Union within the subcontinent. But I do not think it will happen in my lifetime. L

What kind of constitutional guarantees Pakistan offered for its majority ? Indeed in India minorities enjoy better constitutional rights than majority in Pakistan could offer. If I have to talk specifically, India welcomes meritocracy than religious beliefs. India produced, Muslim president, Sikh PM & President. One of air force Marshal was Muslim, Lt General of army was a Muslim. We have won U-19 cricket world cup won under Md Kaif. One of the top billionaire in India is Azim Premji ... list is never ending. You are referring to Kashmir, but then conveniently I have noticed Pakistani think tank ignores exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. I got to know first hand atrocities occurred to Hindus in Kashmir valley during Jan 1990 insurgency; not from one but at least 3 people in my contacts. History had proved religious divide never helped in the prosperity of civilization. As an interesting fact, maybe you might not aware ... Virat Kohli's grandparents migrated to MP in India during 1947. Lets assume then Pakistani establishment behaved in matured way, letting minorities to prosper ... if luck finds its way, he could have been playing from Pakistan. If I have to tell in my immediate ancestors ... there are / used to Muslim neighbours where my grandparents had a house. During 1947 they were in thoughts to migrate to Pakistan. Our seniors convinced them to stay here in India & they are happy of staying back in India. I have a good reason to believe; Pakistani establishment understands ... only way to keep Pakistan alive is by criticizing Hindus or India; otherwise due to common culture between both the countries; in absence of hate or animosity there is no time borders will easily get melted away.

@@theoutpost3608 Just refer to Article 30 in Indian constitution & point me any similarity in Pakistani constitution for the protection & interests of minorities. Article 25(B) if interpreted excluding Muslim, Christian, Jew worshiping places are treated same. Now what does this mean, their operations are monitored by govt so to avoid siphon age of funds. So far I understand its not applied to other religions ... they are more autonomous.
