In the game when you die as warwick one of his lines on his respawn is “you killed warwick but left the beast” I think this could be interpreted as you’ve killed vander but left the beast, obviously ik this line was made years ago but they obviously would have pulled lore from the game too, and warwick after he dies and transforms again is meant to be fully just a beast but with a human brain warwick in lore chooses to only hunt criminals but can lose track when he smells blood, there’s a good story about this where he basically chases a girl trying to deliver a message from a chembaron and warwick is hunting her down but the girl ends up being attacked by other criminals and warwick thinks to himself this girl is in danger because of his actions so he jumps in to help her but while fighting he smells blood and loses control and in the end there was just piles of blood and he thinks he killed the girl

OK, coming off after watching the entirety of Season 2, Act II: I think Vander/Wawick looks like this because he is "unfinished", the fight with Vi taught is about his amazing regenration ability. With enough damage and further mutation not only will Vander's humanity fade, but with it his form will become more similar to League's counter-part, feral and animalistic. This is to show that there's still enough humanity in him, something Singed/Reveneck wants to get rid of.
